Ginza Japanese Sushi Restaurant
303 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
There was no sushi here and its a Taiwanese restaurant and club - not a Japanese restaurant!
Shogun Japanese Sushi & Grill
3417 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, United States
A hidden gem in the Grand Lake district of Oakland. And one of the few restaurants in the area thats open til midnight. On my short list for a decent late night dinner. Its rather small and cozy, so you may want to order to go during peak times. And they do a brisk business through the delivery apps. But if you do get a table, the service is friendly and attentive. It feels like a family run business. In fact, it almost feels like you are eating in their living room. The menu is extensive and includes both grilled meats and sushi, as well as other traditional Japanese favorites. My only quibble is that they only use dark meat chicken instead of breast meat. So I ordered steak teriyaki in a bento combination that included salad, miso soup, vegetable tempura, and rice. It was plenty of food, all delicious, and reasonably priced at $25.Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy home cooked Japanese cuisine.
ABURAYA
362 17th St, Oakland, CA 94612, United States
Aburaya has a really unique vibe as a rock and roll Japanese restaurant! The fried chicken was lightly breaded and the 8 piece meal was more than enough for two people. The tater tots were so good, with Japanese seafood flavors on top! The miso ranch was our favorite dip for the chicken. There are a good amount of tables with the dining room addition. A speaker system in that room makes sure you dont miss when your order is ready!

“Exceptional Bento Experience at Kansai Japanese Restaurant”Review:Kansai Japanese Restaurant in Oakland, California, has become my top choice for sushi, thanks to its outstanding Bento box and overall delightful experience. As a fitness enthusiast who burns a significant amount of calories, the Bento box here stood out for its quality and generous portions. The food and service are impeccable, reflecting a genuine commitment to excellence.Upon entering, the Japanese-themed ambiance transports you, enhancing the dining experience. The customer service is consistently excellent, contributing to an overall memorable visit. While parking can be challenging at times, the superb food makes it well worth the effort. I wholeheartedly recommend Kansai to anyone seeking top-notch Bento boxes and sushi.Despite the occasional parking difficulty, the promise of exceptional food ensures I will return to Kansai whenever I find myself in Oakland.
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
459 8th St Suite A, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
I had a fantastic dining experience at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in Oakland with a group of friends. The group meal for six was a great choice, offering high-quality meats and a delightful surprise with smores at the end. The Japanese BBQ grills added authenticity to the experience, and I particularly enjoyed the beef sukiyaki bibimbap, a dish Ill definitely order again. The inclusion of Korean tofu soup, though unexpected, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The salad and Gyu nigiri were also awesome. While the restaurant can get busy, and getting the servers attention may be a challenge at times, their kindness and accommodation made up for it. The staff was more than willing to address our questions and requests. Despite the lack of extravagance in the ambiance, the focus on authentic Japanese BBQ grills truly set Gyu-Kaku apart. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience!

Geta
165 41st St, Oakland, CA 94611, United States
A small and cozy place that has the vibe of an authentic Japanese restaurant. I lived in Japan for two years and find most American takes on Japanese restaurants to be too fancy and “Asian fusion”, but Geta is the real deal.
Shimizu Cuisine
4290 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611, United States

Yoshis
510 Embarcadero West, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
Great Japanese restaurant with live music. Yoshis is actually a great Jazz Club. I went to see a show (Yuko Mabuchi, Japanese jazz pianist), the food is just a bonus.
Mijori Japanese Restaurant
3260 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, United States
Theres a few decent Sushi and Japanese restaurants in Oakland but Mijori is our favorite place. The sushi guys and other staff are friendly and the fish is so ridiculously fresh EVERY time.
