Ikebana Japanese Restaurant

I hesitated coming here because I had heard of negative things, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. We were seated fairly quickly and our server was so kind and helpful. The atmosphere itself was relaxed, I appreciate the holiday music as well. Now, the table tops felt sticky and dirty as well as the menus. As for the food, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't finish it. The miso soup at the beginning was ok. It was warm, not hot like I would assume it should be. I ordered combination tempura for appetizer and it was okay. After, I ordered the Money Maker Roll and As soon as I saw it, I knew it wasn't going to be great. The raw fish on top looked brown, the rice had a different taste I cannot describe other than maybe it had been rinsed in dirty water. My daughters shared a chicken teriyaki box and their chicken also looked brown and old. I honestly don't like sending things back because I don't think there's much you can do to a plate if this is already how you make it and I'm also scared of getting spit on it or something on it's way back so I just left it there and waited till it was time to pay. This will be my first and only ever time here. This is my opinion and my experience. I always suggest to experience before you judge although I did kind of beforehand. My instincts were correct in my case though.
Samurai Japanese Restaurant

Awesome Japanese restaurant. Food was delicious. A bit cold though. It was valentines day, and was crazy busy. Maybe that is why it was a bit warm and not hot. Sushi is great with an extensive number of items. I am very sure regardless of your taste you will find something you will love. Varies between hot and mild. But really amazing collection. They also have a dinning area where hot can sit on the floor for full Japanese experience. Staff are super friendly.

Outstanding Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Salinas. William, our server, was awesome! Not all good Japanese restaurants are in Monterey.
Teriyaki Madness
1606 N Main St, Salinas, CA 93906, United States
Not impressed at all. Actually, its very disappointing. Its Panda style foods with a bit higher price. Employees standing around loudly talking & joking around while we have to flick food particles off the table where we sit. The tables & the floor have food & crumpled napkins, yet theyre not cleaning anything up. I ordered the Combo madness salmon teriyaki. Taste like frozen fish and its bland. The egg roll is sad looking. My daughter bought a bowl with Teriyaki chicken & yakisoba. Barely any chicken, and the yakisoba was bland. It would have been better going to Panda or Arigato. We dined-in, but ate our meals in to-go contaners because we were not asked if we were dining in or not. Theres no madness about this place. One and Done!!

Japanese food and the feeling at this location is excellent. I love snacking here. Service treated us so nice. The prices are good for what you get. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.

Nice but...The waiter was fine, he refilled my water glass before it was empty. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly to my order, however a little advise... Have them put the red pepper chimichurri on the side, it is way over powering and completely removes the taste of the beef itself. I scraped off as much as I could and if I were to order it again, id have them leave it off completely, I really dont feel it adds anything to the steak. The potatoes were way too soft when they looked as if they should have been crispy on the edges and the green beans werent even aldente, my dining partner said they were downright raw.The spicy tuna tacos were very interesting. Its like going to a Japanese restaurant and ordering a spicy tuna hand roll only instead of the seaweed rap they have a crunchy deep fried flour tortilla. Other than the ribeye steak, the tuna tacos were the best thing we had that night. My dining partner had the Napa cabbage, it comes with the chili chicken breasts and he was still feeling the warmth in his mouth on the drive home. The paper on top of the table cloth looks cheap and though it probably saves them money on laundering the table cloths it really doesnt add to what would be a nice ambiance with the rest of the decor of the restaurant. We also found it a bit disconcerting that they dump the bread in the middle of the table with no plate underneath it. Im pretty sure that the brown paper they lay on top of the white table clothes is not exactly sterile or even clean for that matter as its created in some factory and not likely made to put food on. They really shouldnt do that at a restaurant that charges $38.00 for a steak but then again so is laying brown paper on the tables with a glass of crayons. The last thing that Ill mention is that the mens restroom toilet was stopped up and there was toilet water on the floor from the toilet overflowing. You know, this is kind of typical in Monterey, CA area restaurants, the bathrooms are usually absolutely disgusting. I try to avoid using the bathrooms in the restaurants in this area because if I absolutely have to use one and its disgustingly dirty, it pretty much puts me off on the restaurant altogether, and I usually wont return. Im used to bathrooms that are well maintained and tidy. They dont need an attendant but they do need to have somebody check on them from time to time during business hours to make sure they are clean, have soap and papers etc.So, in a nutshell:Overpriced (but what isnt in the Monterey area)Pretentious menuPoor hygieneGreat tasting beef and fabulous spicy tuna tacosPleasant atmosphere (other than the paper table cloth and crayons)Extremely loud throughout the restaurant, you had to elevate your voice to be heard.Ample parking, but on a busy night like tonight it was completely packed, but since almost all other shops in the center are closed when we went, there is ample parking in the rest of the shopping center.Pleasant wait staff but not well educated in being a wait staff (our waiter didnt even mention the specials of the night). Will we go back again? Maybe. I like the idea of their Kobe burger with Brie and what not but at $24.50 for a burger, Im just not sure.
