Okawa Steak House & Sushi

We decided to try on Jan 1st 2024, this little Japanese place after years of being curious. We made a reservation for the hibachi table at 1 pm. We were pleasantly surprised! Very nice annd clean inside, and was welcomed with a smile. It’s not often you are welcomed with a smile anywhere these days. They took our drink order, brought us a very crisp and fresh salad with delicious ginger dressing, and a very good warm soup. The chef was amazing at grilling our food. We had the hibachi steak and shrimp with fried rice. We also ordered a California roll which was delicious! Very well done. Great quality food that was cooked to perfection. Tasted so good !!! Costumer service was excellent. Reasonable prices too. It has been a challenge for us to find a A+ Japanese restaurant. We are so excited to have found this secret jem in the rough. This will now be our new go to .

Domo Sushi Bar & Grill

We have been customers of this fine sushi establishment ever since it has opened. The prices are very fair (some the best in San Diego) and the sushi always fresh and delicious. As an aging Japanese heritage man heading to type II diabetes my go to is the Hercules protein roll that is relatively new to the menu. No rice but instead wrapped in cucumber...and no discount for this one but there is a lot of sashimi (raw fish) in this beautifully presented roll (check out my picture!).For those more budget conscious they have half price rolls that are just wonderful as well. They also have bento boxes for the less venturous and their Champon udon is fantastic!Another faithful Japanese treat is their hamachi Kama (the collar of a yellow tail tuna) that is roasted (when they have it). It is the fatty (good fish fat) and juicy part of the fish and comes with ponzu (citrusy soy sauce) that just sets it off well. This traditional dish is usually reserved for friends of the owner of a restaurant or distinguished guests. Flavorful. Tender. Rich. You will understand why this delicacy is worth seeking out!I also LOVE their octopus karaage!!! Flavorful baby octopus deep fried to perfection!!!You cant go wrong with anything ordered and consumed here. The BEST sushi place in San Diego with great, personal service (if you want to engage the wait staff). We love them all!!! We love Domo Sushi!!!!!!
Takka Sushi Bar & Grill
9535 Mission Gorge Rd, Santee, CA 92071, United States
Overall the place was decent; the food was okay and the building and the decor itself was nice, but everything lacked in a lot of areas as well. The food is blatantly not authentic japanese; the Ton Katsu Don is exactly the same as their Ton Katsu with a layer of slightly scrambled egg on top of it, rather than being in a bowl mixed with the Katsu among other vegetables. The Katsu themselves were extremely bready and too crunchy/crispy which made the food taste like just friend bread with hints of meat. The sushi looked nice and big but actually lacked a lot of substance and flavor, most of the flavor that did manage to come out was rice and water rather than the ingredients that it had. The miso soup was perfect and had a lot of flavor. Compared to other Japanese restaurants, the price is decent. Not only that, but the food came out extremely fast.In regards to the place, there were 3 doors, but 2 of them were not usable, and only 1 of those had any signs indicating that. The inside has some Christmas lights strewn about the perimeter of the ceiling, which adds much needed lighting, but looks a little trashy and cluncky if you look at them too closely, but still a nice touch nonetheless; maybe if they were better arranged or a different method of bringing small lights were introduced it would look a lot nicer. There is also signs of water leaks or stains on the ceiling of the roof which give off an unclean vibe to an overall clean restaurant. The staff were very helpful to the guests and were happy to help out with great smiles no matter the situation. Some of the chefs/cooks on the other hand, had scowls throughout the night, however they may simply have been going through a rough time.Overall, Takka Sushi Bar & Grill is a decent place for its price. Its almost like a fast food version of Japanese food. If you want to experience Japanese food, maybe give this place a pass, but if you want to go with a group to get a quick bite somewhere japanese, this is definitely a great place to do so.

Nice japanese restaurant, tables, booths with a counter as well. Restaurant is clean and well staffed, food is good and sushi is reasonable and served quickly. They do takeout. Call ahead to see how busy they are - they are popular!
Ahi Poke
9640 Mission Gorge Rd ste c, Santee, CA 92071, United States
Purchased maybe 20 poke bowls (Not exaggerating) from this place. I used to work realitvely close and I love Poke. I like the bowls here however they are most definitely not the greatest value. It wasnt until I started going to other Poke shops that I realized the chunks of fish you get here are super small and the portion size is sad. Other shops within San Diego County will give large chunks of fish that taste much fresher. I will say the spicy mayo here is the best sauce of all the poke bars ive been too. As far as the service. Most reviews are complaining staff is rude. I have never felt the staff to be rude, I just wouldint say they go above and beyond either. Service seems pretty quick and to the point. I will still come here if im in the area. But ive got places closer to home with larger portions for the money.
