ShoMi Japanese Cuisine

Came here because my boyfriend used to love this place in high school (reading other reviews I see thats a common theme of people coming back after years and it not being as great as it once was).I ordered the: spicy salmon roll, tiger roll, hot chile night roll, chicken teriyaki bowl, bbq rollOverall service rating: 8Sushi rating: 3Fish quality: 7Atmosphere rating: 8CONS:- I felt it was strange to pay at the door. For a place that looks so gorgeous, I was expecting an actual sit down meal. They have such a large menu and it sucked having to scan through the menu quickly to order. Due to having to order before sitting down, a lot of the service aspect is taken out of the meal. But they were great about topping off drinks.- The sushi rolls were overall alright. Their quality in fish is good. But their sushi rolls are pretty basic. The menu made the sushi rolls seem really good, and I was disappointed when I got rolls that were as simple as California rolls. Basically the rolls I got were a piece of fish on top of a pile of rice and cucumber.- I thought it was pricey. We paid $50 dollars and though we got 5 dishes, it definitely didnt taste like it was worth $50 dollars for some basic California rolls and speedy take out.- I do not recommend having a date here unless you want some quick take out rather than a sit down dinner.- I ordered the spicy salmon roll knowing it was a basic roll, but it wasnt spicy at all and lacked on sauce. Salmon tasted good though.- DO NOT order the hot chile nights roll, it was basically a cucumber roll with a dallop of spicy tuna and a slice of jalapeno on top with a small drop of sauce. I was VERY disappointed. This roll was on the expensive side and I could have gotten a basic tuna roll and it would have been the same thing.PROS:- The chicken teriyaki bowl WAS TO DIE FOR. I usually hate chicken teriyaki but it was a large bowl was delicious chicken and fresh veggies and very good sauce. I would definitely come back here ONLY for the chicken teriyaki bowl.- The atmosphere is gorgeous. They did a great job decorating after their remodel. It looks like a high scale place.Overall: Most likely I will not be eating sushi here again or coming back for a meal. If I do come back to eat here, it will be for take out for their chicken teriyaki bowl. I could have paid the same price at a higher class sushi restaurant and had a better meal/experience.

Domo its an excellent Japanese restaurant in Stockton. Their Sushi is oishii, their entrees are excellent, their garlic rice is delicious. The only complaint I had is the service is slow.

Quaint location in a strip mall. Walking in we were surprised by a cool, dark interior with some mellow R&B music playing. We had Spicy Edamame, which was perfect level is heat and savory. They offered calamari tentacles, intrigued we ordered. Almost immediately, our dishes arrived on small plates. The calamari was shatteringly crispy and piping hot. Coated in a light panko crust, the hand cut calamari was tentacles and the combination of crisp went well with a ginger soy dipping sauce. My 16 year old son and I fought over the last piece. The edamame seemed fresh. I've had enough frozen to tell the difference. They were worth ordering. The sushi was generous portions of fresh fish. My son had the Sora Dragon roll. It's a Tempura shrimp with crab in a roll. It was amazing!Wine list is Meh. They're focused on Sake cocktails, which to each their own.Looked like an amazing place for a date or date night. We found it randomly on G Maps. I'd definitely go back.

The staff is very polite! Very accommodating. Very nice to kids. They really communicate and establish good relationships with their customers. If you are a returning customer they will greet you like they havent seen you in forever! They keep the restaurant very clean. Theres classy music too so the environment inside is not nauseating.Keep in mind that since this is a Japanese restaurant expect it to be a little costly. But the food is great! The foods presentation is great! They put a lot in your plate to the point that you cant finish the whole thing so you really get what you paid for. They have a lot of items in their menu...some of the items names are even humorous! They serve salad with sweet salad dressing and its good. A salad hater might like it. (Like me) I usually order the Pork Katsu and its delicious! Its not bland at all. The breading is tasty and crispy and they put lots of pieces of it in your plate. Try everything with sauce. The sauce really makes a difference in your food.P.S.The tempura ice cream is the best! =) Just ask them about the ice cream once youre ready for dessert! (I think they do this because they deep-fry the ice cream. I think they wanna make sure the ice cream wont melt before they serve it to you)

Shirasoni Japanese Restaurant

I had a bad experience. I normally dont like to complain but the service was so bad, I just had to bring it up to the manager. The server needed more training before serving customers. We sat at a table because hibachi seating was full. Normally miso soup and salad is brought out first before the meal after ordering. Our meal came out first and it was cold. I was never asked how I wanted my steak but they cooked It well done. I didnt realize I wasnt asked till I looked at my steak. So needless to say it was dry and chewy. We mentioned to our server the fact that we never got our salads. She quickly went and brought us 4 salads since at this point didnt want our soups. The lettuce in the salads had signs of turning brown on the edges. I wasnt going to say anything but there were too many mistakes, I just had to. I first paid our bill of $85 plus a tip. Although the service was bad, she still did provide a service, that was worth something. After explaining our displeasure to the manager, she gave us a $15 gift card. I might have to consider other Japanese restaurants in the future.

Ok so I will not be the only one to comment. I was with 2 other people my daughter, and sister. 2 more negative reviews unless the owner can explain the price inflation.let's start…. Before going to this location I HAD to do a review. Especially since I love making sure reviews are on spot. If the negatives reviews are the similar I stay away.First I reviewed the menu, but noticed something very weird. Stockton's prices are being overinflated. I thought “ok it's because it's in the Lincoln center it's pretty expensive to rent”, but than I noticed the prices from the SAME store branch was waaaay cheaper in the Bay Area (San Leandro). People this is the BAY AREA. I got to school in that area, and rent is 5,000 in Stockton it's 1,500. They're taking advantage of the fact we have limited ramen locations. The best one was the Ramen house off of hammer on which is now closed do to location, and the time it opened(early 2010's). As a person who has traveled to Japan that location actually was more authentic. Again I will continue to post my review with different friends I take till actions or unless explanation is given. This isn't gas ok? Don't take advantage of people. Also to request tip for a non sit down restaurant is wrong. They take your food like the Carl's Jr. on hammer lane. With a number, and don't come refill your drinks at the table. This is not slander, but pure facts. I requested fish cakes, and yes I complained I didn't get them, but found ONE? in the bottom with the price of ONE DOLLAR. I do have more pictures that I will post. The pros: (which is wrong to deny) certain soups were great. Mine, and my sisters very tasty. Lots of noodles, but seem store bought (Please correct me if wrong). The broth is great, and the amount of noodles is abundant…. If you want toppings expect to pay more. 2 bowls almost 40 bucks with one drink for my baby.Again I repeat YOU HAVE TO STAND UP TO GET WHAT YOU NEED. Do not tip if it's not regular server services. I will change my review, and ask my group to change it once I get an explanation from the owner. Thank you in advance!

Sakura Hibachi Catering

If youre looking for great affordable food, this is a half measure. Japanese is hardly ever affordable, but two dinners and flavored soy beans 120.00. We ordered takeout so our experience was a bit marred when the person taking the order missed one order, so because I didnt pull everything out of the bag I had to return. I ended up forking over an extra 34 dollars or so for another entree. Not sure where the communication error began, but it is what it is.My daughter was offered a lemonade while we waited which never arrived. I am a professional eater (been doing it my whole life) so I dont mind shelling out a few extra dollars for great food and service. This fell short. I could have spent less money and had better service at Komachi or M sushi in Lodi. The time and effort to sort things out would have offset the travel time to get there. After all of this, One of my orders was wrong. I never ordered scallops and I do not eat well-done steak. 160.00 later with a tip for someone just to ring me up, I have buyers remorse. To be fair, the food was good but the experience left me with a bad aftertaste.

Kobe Steak & Sushi

2nd time for us eating at this restaurant on 17 April 2021 @ 6pm Pacific Time. We waited for 30 minutes before being seated. We ordered immediately: Two alcoholic drinks, a Volcano Sushi Roll and two Filet Mignon (medium well) & Lobster dinner combo plates. There were 3 other people (same group) that were seated with us at the table/grill. They placed their order immediately as well.It took the staff over an hour to bring us all our drinks after we initially sat down. Then we waited another 30 minutes for one sushi roll. After an hour more of waiting, a waitress explained that there were only 3 cooks working that evening and we were offered free baskets of Edemame. After another 45 minutes of waiting, I asked to speak to the manager. Some young male employee who claimed to be the manager told me that they were short-handed on cooks for that evening. He said that there were other tables ahead of us.Finally, 20 minutes later a cook came to our table but noticed that the grill had not been turned on. The cook turned on the grill and left us with no other explanation. The same cook went to a different table and started cooking their food even though our table had been seated before that other table and we had been waiting a really long time. It took another 45 minutes for the grill to get hot and then another 30 minutes for a different cook to arrive to cook our food. The current cook claimed that he had 12 years experience cooking – yet, the food was overcooked, dry and chewy. Also, someone at our table was allergic to seafood and the cook almost forgot and put the shrimp on the grill while the other food was cooking. After waiting another 15 minutes; everyone was finally served their ordered food. Again, our steak and lobster were dry and overcooked. We could not finish eating the food. It felt like chewing through leather and stale bubblegum. When we all got ready to pay and leave, the so called manager apologized and offered to take 15% off our bills to compensate for the wait. Funny thing though, there was a “service charge” on our bills that added up exactly to the 15% amount that was supposed to be deducted from our meals. I questioned the young man who claimed to be the manager but he stated that he “wasn't” the manager and the actual manager was not in the restaurant. He also said that there was a sign on the restaurant door notifying customers of the service charge.I was appalled, irritated and perturbed at this nonsense we had to endure and I was totally upset that we were still charged the full amount of our meals and the offered discount was magically the service charge.I don't like waiting for my food (understaffed restaurant). I don't like incompetence (grill not turned on). I don't like overcooked food (chewy & tough). But I expressly don't like being lied to (not the manager and no discount).Perhaps it was the fact that 4 out of 5 of us at the table were African-American/Black and they expected us to be “dine & dashers” or that we were “too stupid” to add up our bills and notice that we got robbed. All of us complained and even a few other customers was questioning the same things we were questioning.I DO NOT RECOMMEND EATING AT THIS RESTAURANT EVER!Employee hiring & schedules is not the customer's problem. Overcooked food is the fault of the restaurant cooks. And someone “playing” manager and lying about a discount for the total experience inconvenience – is laughable in the sense of insulting our customer and culinary intellect!

A Sushi Bar not a restaurant. If you want to drink and have sushi then here you go. If you want to sit, relax and eat Japanese food well there are a lot of better choices. Food was just ok, sushi was average but pretty much salted rice not sushi rice. Being Japanese, nothing I would get at grandmas is found here.

Food is always excellent! The best Sushi in Stockton for the price . Dont let the neighborhood or that it was a former dive bar fool you. I have eaten at just about every sushi restaurant in Stockton. Many of the sushi restaurants in SF and also in japan. My wife is Japanese and she is super picky and even she likes it.
