CHO CHO SAN - THE ORIGINAL
19010 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana, CA 91356, United States
Please see my attached image of all the recent bad reviews on Yelp. In particular its about the rude manager. We have been a customer of Cho Cho San for over 15 years. We ordered a few things on over the phone. In general, its difficult to order sushi over the phone but we did and have done many times before from this place. First of all, the girl who took the order wasnt knowledgeable about the favorite items on the menu. We wanted a spicy tuna crunch roll, a Cho Cho San favorite - but she didnt know anything about it. Since we had to explain the roll to her about 5 times, I knew it was going to be wrong and it was. But here is the kicker, when we get there, we check the order and point out whats its missing, the shrimp tempura! But they already charged our credit card. My husband reaches over to pick up our 2nd order to open it and check it for accuracy and the manager snatches it out of his hand and says dont touch the food. Mind you we already PAID for it and its technically ours, I really think the 2nd order was wrong too and he didnt want us examining it to point out how bad this place has slipped. The girl was clueless and untrained, but not her fault. How the male manager behaved was completely unprofessional and inappropriate and horrible behavior for any business manager. The manager was flat out rude and we will never be back again. We had been coming here for over 15 years but NEVER AGAIN! Managers are a reflection of the entire operation. I bet the employees are miserable under his management. Rude customer service, poor quality sushi, dont waste your time or money. This place has really gone down the toilet over the past 5 years. Probably because of that specific manager. #FA
Mon Japanese Restaurant
19463 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana, CA 91356, United States
Mon is a small and intimate Japanese restaurant consisting of a sushi bar and only about 5 tables. I was always told that you will find good sushi at small Japanese restaurants like this, and Mon is no exception. The sushi I had was fresh and delicious. They also have a really great value in their combinations because they come with a lot of food for a pretty fair price. The service was great and I highly recommend coming here.
Keitaros Kitchen

New Management and the new owner, Toshiro knows what hes doing. Strong kitchen staff/team focusing on quality. VERY nice people. Food is 1000x better than the previous iteration. Ive been a regular for 2 years now and the food wasnt bad before, it was just good Japanese food. Now, its GREAT, Japan influenced focused on quality and taste, mom and pop style comfort food you would find in smaller cities or neighborhoods.Their Karaage chicken is prepared just like in Japan (order it), that cucumber salad is deliciously crunchy with a hint of a thicker (but light on taste) amber colored vinegar and the seaweed at the bottom is refreshing combo of taste and texture (order it). The tonkotsu ramen, wow... saves me from driving to Little Tokyo! This ramen is perfectly cooked. Chewy, al dente noodles swimming in a creamy umami-filled pork broth. Broth was temperature hot too, just like in Tokyo (order it).I ordered an extra cucumber salad to go because its THAT good and the spicy tuna. Last food note, but the most important one, the rice is beyond heaven, each grain perfect, not sticky or pasty. Being born+raised in Hawaii... you gotta know how to cook perfect rice.Well be back more frequently now... This is a gem of a restaurant, reinvented beautifully, serving up delicious japanese food. Thank you Toshi and your wait staff, so generous and kind. ?

I really struggled with whether or not to give this restaurant a five or four star. I think a 4 and a half would be perfect and Ill explain why. The atmosphere and decor was very nice. I really liked the lighting overall and the bamboo area. The food is very good and they give the biggest portions Ive ever seen at an Asian restaurant with reasonable prices. Another added feature is that they serve Chinese and Japanese food so it was nice to be able to order sushi with our meals. When ordering a dinner meal they give you a big bowl of soup, not a cup like you usually get with most dinner combos at other restaurants of this type. The cream cheese crab rangoon was at least 3 times the size as any Ive ever seen. The actual portions of the main course were huge, as well. We were there for 2 of our birthdays and they were nice enough to bring out 2 ice creams with candles and sing happy birthday. Another thing, the ice tea was especially good! Here is the problem. The waiter we had seem to get frustrated with us, when trying to take our order. I think because he didnt understand (possible language barrier) and he would just walk away, without warning, and start waiting on other tables and do other things. He even seemed a little mad even when we were talking to him so nicely. He did this a couple times so it took a very long time to get our main order taken. We had previously ordered some appetizers and drinks and did receive those with some confusion. We finally flagged down another lady that worked there to help us and she brought another waiter and they served us well. But the first waiter also messed up our tickets so much that they had a hard time figuring it out and never got it right, so we just had to figure it out ourselves. With all this, there was plenty of positive that we would still be back.
BBQ Teriyaki & Sushi

I love the food, hands down great. Theyre Boba is beyond terrible and I dont think they care and know theyre skimming on ingredients.I just ordered a chicken teriyaki plate with a banana strawberry boba. The plate was great but the salad that came along with my order had next to zero salad dressing. I do love it so it was disappointing but I didnt think my drink would be so awful.I was crossing my fingers that their Boba would be on point for once. I got a milk smoothie with bland tasteless Boba. No strawberry and the faintest taste of banana.Every time I order a Boba there I think maybe I got a bad day or something, I try different ones that they offer but theyre terrible. Each employee doesnt make it correctly and its either too sweet or just like what I got today.Maybe remove Boba all together because that was LAME.New guy working there with glasses, has the worst customer service skills as well.I usually order there a lot but this is getting dumb
Kushiyu

Gourmet, creative Japanese dishes with extra large sushi bar and generous table seating area. Expensive but enticing menu. As a Japanese food connoisseur who visits Japanese restaurants around the world, Kushiyu ranks right up there with the best.

I would like to leave a review about this wonderful cafe, everything was very tasty like at home, the menu is rich enough for any gourmet client, and the waiter turned out to be a robot, my daughter and I came specially to look at this Japanese miracle invention, you can scratch the robot behind the ear and he will meow like a cat.
Sushi Yotsuya

I knew we were in for some amazing sushi when I was told by the hostess that they didnt serve California Rolls because this was a true Japanese restaurant. The sushi (mostly nigiri and Masa-san made an exception for us in preparing a maki:) was amazing and the ambiance is laid back yet traditional without the garish/pretentious frou-frou. We regret not doing the omakase but theres definitely going to be a next time.
