Cho Cho San Restaurant
400 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, United States
Cho Cho San offers below average Japanese food at higher than normal prices. This restaurant offers both Sushi and Teppanyaki style Japanese food. I was not able to sit at the Teppanyaki tables, and for some reason, the restaurant will not offer you that food unless you eat at the tables specifically meant for it. Ive been to a ton of other Japanese places that offer you the food whether or not you sit at the Teppanyaki tables, but this place does not. This is a very lazy choice for a Japanese Restaurant. They offered to make it in that style for me from the kitchen, but it came back as the worst tasting Teppanyaki I have ever had. The steak was good but was marinated in Teriyaki and nothing else, which is not Teppanyaki style, the fried rice tasted mediocre and the vegetable tempura was not seasoned at all. My wife ordered their Japanese Noodle Soup, which she substituted the pork for tofu, and the chef put the tofu straight in from the fridge, meaning it was ice cold in the soup when it was served. Overall, this is a below average, but over priced Japanese Restaurant. I cannot recommend it.

My favorite place to go! Such great food and all the employees there are very friendly and nice, including the owners!(Update: 5/16/2020)Even during this pandemic, they are still one of the best japanese restaurants in Thousand Oaks. They are enforcing the 6ft rule when picking up food & the food still tastes good! You can order through door dash as well! Owners are always friendly and overall still the best!

Sushi Planet
951 S Westlake Blvd #114, Thousand Oaks, CA 91361, United States
Last call is 30 minutes before closing. I went in for baked green mussels and a sashimi salad. They told me they couldnt plate it but would serve me my food in a styrofoam box. I made sure I could eat the mussels when I was served because the only way to eat them is IMMEDIATELY.The mussels were good. Meatier than usual. (I order green mussels from every sushi place I try. ). Meatier = good. Not oversauced. Again, good.Sashimi salad was also good. Plenty of seafood on it. The part that really stood out was the octopus(?) that was on the salad. First of all, its the first time Ive had it on any sashimi salad. Second, it was very flavorful. Very fresh. I said, yum aloud (unintentionally) with every bite I had. It was very good. The rest of the salad/sashimi was great. Very small pieces so you get a good mix of different fish and and salad with each bite. It really is a salad. Other sashimi salads I try differ, in the sense that you have to decide whether your next bite is either salad greens or its one fish at a time but this was very mixed. If youre hungry, it doesnt matter what gets swallowed, or in what order.- Ultimately, even though the food I ordered was at the end of the day, it was still very fresh and tasty.- The staff accommodated me and what I wanted.- The price was about $40. $25 for the salad and $10 for the mussels. Plus a super small tip. [[(but only because I wasnt being waited on and didnt require much service, (which is totally fine). Just throw that in a box and Ill be on my way.... no beverages, no dishes. Just an end-of-the-night sale. $5 was adequate for this particular situation otherwise I would have tipped more.]]

Tabu Shabu - Thousand Oaks
2920 E Thousand Oaks Blvd # A, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362, United States
This restaurant is TERRIBLE.TL:DR - miserable staff, long wait for food, tiny portions and they apparently dont know how to prepare white rice.First of all, the service was atrocious. All the staff seemed miserable and cranky. It took 45 minutes to get our food. Mind you, the food is RAW, you do the cooking. So WHY did it take so long? When we complained about the wait, they told us there were untrained staff in the kitchen.Next, the serving sizes are ridiculously small. Weve been to Shabu Shabu all over LA. Tabu has the worst portion sizes of any of them by far. Its a joke. Also, the salmon is sliced so thin, it falls apart in the broth and is impossible to eat. Lastly, the beef was served on a plate in a pile, which made it difficult to pull apart the slices in order to cook them. The white rice we got served was literal mush. It was disgusting. When I pointed that out to the server, he said, yeah, weve been working getting that fixed for SIX MONTHS! Youre a Japanese restaurant and you havent figured out how to make white rice in six months?!? That should tell you everything you need to know about Tabu Shabu right there.STAY AWAY. There are MUCH better Shabu Shabu restaurants in LA.

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. I know it smells good while they cook it in front of you and they may have even given you a sample that tasted pretty good too but the minute you get your plate you are disappointed. First, I never heard them call our number so when we finally figured out that 3 of the 6 were ours we took them and sat down the check was not toasted like the one they serve you. There is quite a bit of fat on what they serve you too. We also had a spicy tuna roll...we must have been starving. That was the most disgusting thing on the planet and they definitely have no right calling it sushi! I would not go back again.

Ox Bone Ramen
30869 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, Westlake Village, CA 91362, United States
Atmosphere is stylish, i liked dining in, and the staff is very nice and welcoming. We had the pulled pork cut roll as an appetizer, which was very good and reasonably priced at $6.50. But the ramen... we were really excited because bone marrow broth is rich and savory. We both got the ox bone original... but this broth was very bland and thin, almost flavorless. It does come with very tender and yummy brisket! But it doesnt come with the standard egg thats usually included with most ramen, its an extra $2 on top of an already overpriced bowl at $19, so you come out at $21 for a bowl you can get somewhere else for half the price that tastes better. I honestly wont try the ramen again. It was the blandest Ive ever had. But! We got the green tea banana pudding dessert which was very yummy (doesnt taste like actual matcha but still) and they had other things like rice bowls that I would be willing to go back and try.

All Fired Up Mongolian Grill

I have been going there for years and years, I love the food and the person that runs it Jose, I have watched it change hands from the owner (Todd) to an asian couple and Jose was still running it. It seemed that something happened and it went back to Todd and David ? no idea who that is new partner and low and behold Jose made it though. The main reason that I go there was because of how we were treated by Jose and the Staff. When ever we have anyone come from out town thats where we would go for lunch(its always funny to see the newbes try and make there plate) However now I just found out that Jose is not there any longer and will promt me not to try it with new owners and people that seems like it is just a job to them. Jose would always welcome us when we went there and always walked around to see how people were doing and taking care of everyone like we were family. I work for a family business and have been with them now for 26yrs about as long as Jose been at wok n south. I like to support local businesses and love the people that work for them they seem more down to earth. I am sorry that I feel this way and would love to go back their but without Jose just can;t see myself making back to JUST A BUSINESS. I will miss you my friend hope I see you on the streets. SO VERY Sad

Armstrong Garden Centers

If youre buying a tree - AVOID this place. Im sad to have to say that as we really like visiting this store. Weve spent a lot of money here over the years yet every time weve purchased a tree, it has been infested with bugs. The first tree purchased was a palm tree. Within a week, we discovered it had mealybugs. We went back and spoke to the owner and we were advised on how to treat it but to no avail. Not learning our lesson, we replaced the tree again from Armstrong, and again, it was infected with mealybugs. Having gotten wiser we checked other palm trees on their property and saw that they were also infected. After a year of buying only simple plants and decor, my wife found a Japanese Maple that she really liked. We bought it and took it home. Within only a few days, the leaves began to look sickly and droop. We discovered the tree was infected with aphids. Luckily we caught it early and treated the tree with Neem Oil. Later that week we were back and looking at their other Japanese Maples. They look beautiful from afar, but close inspection revealed they were seriously infected with aphids. We asked the owner if he would give us a discount for a sick Japanese Maple infected with the bugs. He shrugged us off and said 5%. He said that he was aware the trees were infected because they have other plants on the property that attract the aphids and, treating with neem oil hurts the butterflies that feed on those plants. It was an admission by the owner himself that he is aware of the fact that he is selling infected trees.Just know if you buy a tree from this place, you do so at the risk of potentially infecting your garden with their bugs. Be warned.

I usually get the power veggie salad with chicken added here but decided to get a sandwich this time. The salads are nice and filling but a little lacking in chicken considering I pay extra for it.I expected I would get two full loaves of bread in my sandwich but its one loaf of bread cut in half to make a sandwich so their sandwiches are really half sandwiches. The bread is delicious and VERY filling. I think... the highlight of the meal. All in all pretty good for the price. However, I think I prefer the salads and add on extra bread - if you must have it. Its the more guiltless option. Again, I just wish theyd increased the protein portion, if you pay for it as an add on. At nearly $4 more to add on a protein, more than 2 ounces would be nice. Im not sure how much they put on it but, again, it seems lacking a bit.Love this place. Its a great healthy option, if you keep the bread consumption in check, but theres always that little voice in my head that says I hope get a little more chicken this time.
