Maki Yaki Japanese Grill (Uptown)
6736 Bright Ave, Whittier, CA 90601, United States
2 crunch rolls 2 miso soups 2 drinks for $22.50. This was a meal that should have been for 2 people. Very pricey. The roll came in 8 pieces. Do not go here on an empty stomach and an empty pocket. Be prepared to pay a good amount a money for a little amount of food. I called another Maki Yaki same restraint different area in the city. Same city in Whittier in The Quad Shopping stores and they would have charged me $16.50 for everything. They said they have been working for 3 years. Well if they want more customers they are doing a horrible job at it. Its a 1 star strong.

Restaurant Amachi
6729 Greenleaf Ave, Whittier, CA 90601, United States
I love Amachi, Im not ashamed to say it. There are few restaurants I can say that about. So let me tell you why.1. Its a small, quaint, family style restaurant, much like like those I encountered as a teacher in Japan.2. It is highly recognized within the Whittier community.3. The prices have always been respectable. A top quality meal for around the same price as many fast food burger meals.4. The food is consistently flavorful and traditional American Japanese food.5. The hosts have always been friendly.6. Though the menu doesnt change much, and is more limited than you might find at other commercially owned Japanese restaurants, the selection is really good.7. I ate here several times a month with my buddy for years.8. Ive eaten Japanese food from restaurants all across Japan, and here in LA. County, and though it can be a bit busy, its small and hidden away off the street, and they have strange hours, its still my favorite. Its one of those places I hesitate reviewing, because the selfish side of me would rather have fewer people know about it.PARKING:Amachi is located off Green Street in a little side pavilion beside Mimos Cafe. You can not see it from the street.Parking is in the rear across from Amachi where a little alley passes. You access the city parking from Comstock Avenue.UNUSUAL HOURS:They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday they are open for lunch, then close and reopen a few hours later for dinner. Friday to Sunday they are only open for dinner.

E Sushi Japanese Restaurant
15334 Whittier Blvd Space 6, Whittier, CA 90603, United States
I grew up going here. My uncle used to take me when I was a kid and I continued to go when I was an adult. This place destroyed every other sushi/Japanese restaurant I have ever gone to. No one can match this place. I hope they never go out of business. Though I grew up in a Japanese family, we still went out for sushi instead of making it at home most of the time.

Yoshiharu Ramen
8426 Laurel Ave A, Whittier, CA 90605, United States
Ive been coming here a few years now, and it is all for the ramen. Being of Hispanic upbringing, I absolutely love chile and spice. Wherever I go to ramen establishments they always have a spicy miso flavor, but the punch is always so lackluster that it makes me second guess my order; even though I will order the spicy miso every time praying for some heat. This is the only ramen restaurant, that i have found so far, that actually is spicy. Their spicy miso ramen comes in three levels, and if you want spice, get the x3. The only problem is the inconsistency in the actual bowls I have gotten. Sometimes the pork in it, being so small, has been a sliver of what it once dreamed to be; its very being dissolving in the soup for its expectations in life were only met with regret. On more than one occasion, I have received a hard-boiled egg instead of a soft boiled; sometimes I have even been given half of an egg. As if the purchase of my ramen is accompanied by a ticket that compels me to span the cosmos in search for my half eggs counterpart. I usually order takeout from here, and it is disappointing because upon arrival home, I have even been given the wrong spice level; being the very reason for my return. The ramen is great, and the flavors are good, but the customer service and attention to detail is where the ratings drop. I have called this place over and over, at one point for almost an hour, and they never pick up the phone. Being busy can only be an excuse every now and then, but when it becomes ones motto, their stars implode, and so will the business. The ramen, whenever everything is done correctly, deserves 5 stars, but the inconsistencies and customer service problem tank the cake.

Joy Sushi
15630 Whittwood Ln Space 18, Whittier, CA 90603, United States
This place is an awesome Japanese restaurant! The sashimi is always fresh and the service has always been excellent! Jason, the owner, is a friendly guy and knows how to treat his frequent customers well. My favorite is Bora-Bora sashimi -- spicy but very tasty! They also have a variety of salads, Bento plates, udon noodles, etc. The sake selection is great and they also have wine, Japanese beer like Sapporo, yummy dessert like the mochi ice cream. All in all, Joy sushi is by far, the best sushi/sashimi place Ive ever been to! Highly recommended and a must try sushi place if youre in Whittier area!!

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Great variety of menu options, but I wasnt a fan of the ambiance/vibe. There wasnt a wow-factor for me to come back.AMBIANCE: Noise level was loud. More of a family restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating (with heat lamps).DRESS CODE: CasualMENU OPTIONS:- variety of appetizers, sushi, sashimi, rolls, cooked food (both Japanese and Peruvian), beer, sake, wine, juices- Kids menu/options available- wasnt a fan of the options of rolls offered. most of the rolls had tempura or avocado, or cream cheese (seems too Americanized rather than Japanese or Peruvian)... I wish there were more options that included fish.ORDERED:- Crispy Spicy Tuna- Yellowtail Collar- Ceviche Halibut- Peruvian Roll- Fresh Scallop Sushi- Spicy Scallop Handroll- Salmon and Uni Sushi- Quality of fish was fresh and good, but still didnt have that wow factor to want to come backSERVICE: Service was good.PRICE: ~ $70pp (depending on how much food and alcohol you order)PARKING: Located in a shopping center, so plenty of parking!Food: 3/5 starsService: 4/5 starsVenue/Ambiance: 2/5
