Must try authentic Malaysian food!I’m very impressed with how Damansara’s able to pull off the flavors. I love that she had dishes like otak-otak, bak kua, and kaya toast* that aren’t served at many Malaysian restaurants.*Kaya toast is often served as breakfast in Malaysia and it was interesting to see it served as a dessert but still tasted good and would recommend.
Penang Garden Restaurant
728 Washington St, San Francisco, CA 94108, United States
Best Malaysian restaurant in San Francisco by far. Always worth a trip into the city. Staff is excellent, food is top notch. Its damn near exactly the same as eating IN Malaysia. I definitely recommend this place to friends and family. Service is fast and the food is delicious.
Lime Tree
450 Irving St A, San Francisco, CA 94122, United States
This place is superb. A friend and I wandered around and planned to have lunch after a visit to the golden gate park. We picked up this unobtrusive place because we wanted to try some southeast Asian food. That turned out to be a fabulous decision. The restaurant is small in size, half-underground, not looking fancy at all, few customers when we walked in, so tbh we did not have high expectations at the beginning. However, our world views were just changed after we took a first bite of the food. I ordered a shrimp (Indonesischen?or Singaporean?) fried rice kind of thing. It was super delicious(though it looks nothing special) and I would say it's the most delicious food I had ever had in a restaurant. Both of us were just amazed and we discussed the food during and even after the meal. Big size, humble look, extremely tasty. Hidden gem obviously. I will definitely come back again and bring more friends!
Dabao Singapore
1661 Tennessee St Unit 2K, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States
My wife is from Singapore and I’ve been there a bunch of times. This was our first time with Dabao Singapore. Our niece got us a package with Laksa, prawn noodle and chee kueh. Not sure how to describe chee kueh other than a steamed rice powder cake with preserved cabbage and hot sauce. We have it in Sing for breakfast, so we saved it and had it this morning. It was quite good, though it could have used a little more cabbage. My wife had the prawn noodle (ha mee). She said the soup stock was very good, but she was a little disappointed in the noodles. Perhaps the time between initial preparation and delivery affected them. But overall, she liked the dish.I had the Laksa and it was quite good and quite true to those prepared in Singapore (as opposed to many others which are more like curry noodles). While I’ve had better in Singapore, I haven’t had many there that are better. Two come to mind there out of the dozens of different hawkers we’ve had.No dry mouth overnight which tells me no MSG was used in either dish, which is a huge plus.Prices are a little steep, but sine the price includes delivery, it’s not outlandishly high compared to other restaurants serving Sing or Malaysian food.Easily the best Singaporean restaurant in the Bay Area.
MY-Malaysianfood
1566 Carroll Ave Unit 2K, San Francisco, CA 94124, United States
I was only in San Francisco for 24 hours and craving the Assam Laksa, but when I went there I couldn't find anything, just an industrial warehouse district, so I'm assuming no dine in (on Google it said dine in). They did not answer the phone so I never got any Malaysian food.

Azalinas

I left the same review on RESY if people wonder. I am so excited that Azalinas is back serving up the most delicious Malaysian food you have ever had! Your tastebuds experience so many different and unique flavors that all blend perfectly together. Azlalina herself is passionate about the food she creates, and there is so much Malaysian love that goes into everything she cooks. I took a co-worker to the restaurant last night, and with every bite, there was a look of awe and amazement at the flavors her tastebuds were experiencing. Can you tell I love this place!?

Hottest new Malaysian restaurant opening up in the marina. Very excited to try their laksa and duck noodles.
The Morris
2501 Mariposa St, San Francisco, CA 94110, United States
The food is good but overpriced just like most things in SF, but that isn't my gripe with this place. My gripe is that it's run by pretentious jerks seemingly for pretentious jerks. Case in point: I took my wife here for her birthday this past Saturday; she made the reservation and mentioned that is was for her birthday. When we were seated, our waiter even mentioned to me the table in the corner is a cozy spot for a birthday so he was aware. He was a bit cold and it might've been because we got two cocktails instead of a bottle (we were in Napa all day so we were wined out) and was somewhat short when we asked about some of the drinks, but it was fine. We ordered the bread, a salad, and the half duck…all of it excellent but we never heard from our waiter again until he brought us the check at the end. Maybe because the old and seemingly super wealthy table next to us was more important (and loud) or maybe because we're easy customers but we never really heard from him again which was very disappointing. At this point towards the end of the meal we were slightly annoyed but it was still fine. What was the tipping point was when he asked another table next to us if they were celebrating anything…they said no, paid and we're on the way. After another staff boxed up our food and asked if we wanted dessert we were kind of upset at this point that he never asked us (knowing he knew we were there for a birthday) or mentioned anything about it other than in passing or that he seemingly didn't want to service us for whatever reason so we said we'll pass on dessert. He brought the check, I paid, and some guy (the owner maybe by the way he was chatting to the older table next to us) came by and said thanks for coming in a very insincere way as we left.Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the waiter and the other guy seemed totally uninterested in us…maybe because we're younger…maybe because we didn't get a $150 bottle of wine…maybe because the wealthy, loud, and much older table next to us was more important than us but I figured we'd get a nice birthday message from someone or just more attention in general but we were wrong. We still managed to drop $190 including a decent 20% tip that was probably too generous but whatever. It was my wifes birthday dinner and we left the restaurant feeling ignored, stupid, and dejected. We will never be back.
Breadbelly
1408 Clement St, San Francisco, CA 94118, United States
As a working professional my Sunday afternoons consist of finding a nice coffee shop to enjoy a cappuccino (or two or three), open my laptop and start prepping for some activities for the coming week. This has been my usual routine for as long as I can remember. My spot is usually determined by where my activity from earlier in the day was. Often thatll be Saint Frank in Russian Hill, Sightglass on 7th, Stable Cafe in the Mission, or Home Cafe in the Richmond. On my way to Home Cafe in the Richmond I passed by Breadbelly which I had never seen before. It looked super cute and inviting from the outside. Thats where the positives ended.Once my wife and I went in and started looking at the menu we saw Wreckingball was their coffee of choice. The price for my cappuccino ($4) which is typical fare in SF. However, we did notice that Lattes are $5.5 which is nearly a 10-20% premium compared to other similar shops. Their BB drinks though were $6+, a bit steep but hey worth a shot since its signature right so we settled in on a Black Sesame Horchata.Once we took a seat (right by the owner/cashier), my wife and I cracked out our work and laptops. In a short amount of time they delivered our drinks and made no mention of the laptop or books. Then about 10 min midway through our coffee the owner interrupts us with one of the most awkward and most tone deaf customer service experiences Ive had:Owner: Hi, I just wanted to mention that we typically like to have a no working Sunday policy at our store. I apologize, weve been meaning to put a sign to state that but havent gotten to it.Me: Ok, so what exactly are you asking of me at the moment?Owner: You need wrap up and close your laptop.Me: My whole afternoon is based around getting my work done, and this just throws a giant wrench into that.Owner: Were going to have to ask you to wrap it up.This interaction would have been totally acceptable if there were signs saying no working on Sundays. Home Cafe does a pretty good job about that on specific tables that are identified as no laptop tables. The part that irked me the most was that the owner admittedly knew he had no signs and knew it was a problem. Also what made this worse was that the cafe was at most a quarter filled at the time. I could understand if we were occupying a table with a nearly full room or queue forming. All in all this was one of the most ridiculous experiences Ive had in a neighborhood coffee shop. After reading some other 1 star reviews for this place, it seems this is almost a carbon copy of other Sunday laptop experiences. You would think that after a couple times, printing a sign would be that much easier in the spirit of customer experience. It seems they are more than happy to take your money and ask you to leave. With a service mentality like this Im hoping there are mostly one and done visitors like myself to this place.
