Olive Garden Italian Restaurant
1580 N Main St, Salinas, CA 93906, United States
My husband family and I decided to go and have brunch there today 07/10/22. The worst customer service experience I have ever experience. If I could give them 0 stars I would. On our arrival the host told us it would be a few minutes. As we were waiting for our table other families were coming and and were being seated. We were a party of 9, 6 adults and 3 children. We probably had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was not busy. They open at 11am and we probably got there around 11:20am. By the tine we got seated it was close to noon. We told our waitress that we were ready to order since we had plenty of time to see the menu when we were waiting. We order our drinks and food. It then takes the waitress about 15 mins to bring us our salsa/soup and bread. Then it takes her about 30+ mins to start bringing our food. We had to keep asking her for refills. Other serves had to assist her in bringing out our food. To top it off, my plate and nieces plate is not out with everyone else’s order. The waitress comes back to ask if we needed anything else. I simply said that we were still waiting on two more plates. Then some else brings my nieces plate but mine is still MIA. By the time they brought my plate out all my family members were dine eating their food, now they were just waiting on me to eat.Extremely frustrating and disappointed in their customer service. I do not recommend this place.
Panera Bread

VERY Disappointed. One sandwich, one half soup half salad was $28. Thats fine if the sandwich wasnt less than half the size of a Subway with less than 1/4 of steak that didnt even reach to the ends of the buns.WORSE THAN THAT, I am allergic to bell peppers and we asked at the drive-thru placing our order if there were any bell peppers in the salad we were told there were not.But when we actually opened up the salad there was over a quarter of a cup of bell peppers.Fortunately we had parked right next to the restaurant to eat so we went back through the drive-thru and voiced our concerns. We were told there were no bell peppers in that salad found one we insisted that there were then they looked at the ingredients and said oh well the bell peppers arent really in the salad there in the edamame mix that goes in the salad. And I said if the edamame mix is a part of the salad recipe then there are bell peppers in the salad again she told me there were not.No apologies no what can we do to make this right we drove up to the window and said we wanted our money back and she didnt but was not friendly no sorry no our mistake know anyting she acted as if we were a nuisance to her.

Its got some problems, but many positives:For $9 you get a very nice sized portion, 32oz is more than enough food for most people. For about $12 you can get soup with it, and bread is included no matter what. Overall, i got more than enough food for a family of 4, with dessert, for less than $35. For eating out, thats hard to beat.Salad bar has all the standard options, several leafy green options available, more than just iceberge and spinach. One problem i ran into is that one bowl had some pieces that were clearly wilting. The bowl wasnt overrun with it, i could see it being easy to miss if youre just filling up the bowl, but as a customer who enjoys that kind of leafy green, i definitely ran into it. Aside from that, the leafy greens were all firm, as they should be, i was easily able to avoid any unwanted pieces. You can also make a nice pasta salad. Now, the spiral pasta looked a bit soft, and i prefer pasta thats a bit more firm, al dente. There were several premade pastas and potatoe salad. Unfortunately they all were made with dressing that was heavy on the vinegar. I like a good vinegar and oil dressing, but, the vinegar was just too heavy for me. Now, i was able to correct it with the addition of other dressings, like Italian. And, because of that, it was pretty easy making my own creations off of what they started, adding in items from the rest of the salad bar.The rest of the items, i didnt see any issues with. Large sneeze guard, too, if youre worried about that. Further, i saw very few items in the wrong location. Given its a salad bar, i definitely expected to see more items spilled on the side, but i saw almost nothing out of place. Finally, seating, as others have expressed, can feel a bit claustrophobic. Many of the tables are very close to each other. But, i had take out, so i didnt really care. So, with limited salad bar options in the area, this place offers a nice selection in a decently kept environment with good portion sizes for a price thats right.

DONT EAT HERE! GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSES LEFTOVER FOOD CONSISTENTLY. Ive been here about 4 times because I doubted myself. The first time the food was excellent. Then the second time and afterward they started giving me what looked and definitely was leftover food from someone elses plate about 3 different times. Not sure if Im just imagining them having something against me (Im a White female) but my 2 guy friends food was fresh and delicious every time but mine was definitely nasty. I gave them the benefit of the doubt.. The second visit was a considerably smaller portion on a small plate with reheated leftover pieces of chicken with limp yellow lettuce that looked partly chewed. The third time I went with something different: carne asada tacos. The meat was hard and almost burnt, the tortillas were hard and looked reheated, the rice was soggy and broken, and the beans were oily and mushy. This last time (just to test it out) there was reheated hard sliced chicken again with some green pieces of lettuce and brown lettuce on the bottom but mixed in. I ate a little of the good pieces because I was imagining things and vomited a while later. DEFINITELY CONFIRMED THEY MESS WITH YOUR FOOD. Listen to yourself if it doesnt feel right. Good atmosphere, wish it matched the experience and their values.
Eriks DeliCaf

My favorite sandwich, when it's well made, is a Rueben. I've been looking for this sandwich in my area (Salinas/Monterey) for a year. It's been rough, so I'm guessing it's choice is not currently popular. (?) Recently, I discovered that Erik's Deli makes them, so today I dropped in. The service was good. Sandwiches were made quickly. The employees were friendly. The facility was clean. And, they offer a senior discount! However, I was disappointed in my sandwich. It's supposed to have sauerkraut, which was not immediately apparent. There was too much dressing which dripped and caused the other ingredients to slide. The majority of the filling was in the middle of the sandwich, leaving the outer edge of the bread with nothing but thousand island dressing. This was significant because the meat, cheese, and kraut slid out from the center, increasing the amount of bread standing alone. Will I return? Possibly. I don't know if anyone else who makes this sandwich.

Sushi Hut
616 E Boronda Rd, Salinas, CA 93906, United States
Weirdly pan-Asian menu for a place called Sushi Hut: Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hawaiian, as well as Japanese. Was really skeptical but drove all the way out because of the red bean buns which they sadly dont have anymore.Lots of odd, non-authentic offerings like ha gau soup and deep fried ha gau.Frying the skins ruined the ha gao imho, but the insides were good, with whole shrimp in the filling, not a fish ball with shrimp pieces, though the insides were bland and underseasoned.Part of the appeal of ha gao is the sticky, chewy skin, so deep-frying them ruined them texturally. I think if they were pan-fried so you had both crunchy and chewy textures it would have been tastier and more successful. Also I missed not having red vinegar for them. The gyoza/mandoo sauce they give you does not go with seafood imho. They also have a market with snack-y items, making it resemble a Lees Sandwiches more than a takeout joint. They were stocked with 8 out of 10 Sailor Moon Ocean Bomb flavors (Pluto and Saturn are hard to find still) and a decent cross-section of Dragon Ball Z Ocean Bombs. It was still hopping half an hour before closing and parking was tight.Would try again if ever in the area again.

The Steinbeck House Restaurant
132 Central Ave, Salinas, CA 93901, United States
I know Im a literature nerd, but I drove all the way from Los Angeles to Salinas just to visit the Steinbeck House and the Steinbeck Center. And I thought the Steinbeck House was just lovely. Its only open for lunch Tuesday thru Saturday 11:30am-1:00pm. Street parking in the neighborhood was easy to find. I managed to sneak in without a reservation, but people who came after werent so lucky and had to go chill in the gift shop in the basement while they waited for a spot. So advance reservations are recommended. Menus change weekly. I had the chicken, apple and melted brie sandwich and Steinbeck tea, which were delicious. The volunteer servers were warm and welcoming to an exhausted traveler and the gorgeous and elegant home seemed like the most genteel oasis after the many miles of highway. The staff may have time to show visitors around the home or provide historical info about the house if there is time. They may have special treats available that arent on the menu. When I was there word got out that they had apricot chiffon pie that was not advertised, and it was dreamy. They also dont automatically serve them, but if you ask for them theyll bring a basket of dinner rolls wrapped in linen. Prices were very reasonable. Please tip well as servers are volunteers. Dont miss the gift shop in the basement which has artifacts from Steinbeck and all of his books for sale. I was glad I made the trip from LA!
