Sukho Thai
5498 College Ave, Oakland, CA 94618, United States
This is the best Thai food in the Oakland area! My friends and I came here for a lovely dinner. Between the three of us, there were so many dietary restrictions (nut allergy, gluten free, vegan). We started off with Crispy Tofu and Vegetarian Spring Rolls. We shared several dishes: Vegetable Pad See Ew, Basil Eggplant and Pumpkin Curry. The kitchen and the servers were so thoughtful of the allergy and the dietary restrictions. All the dishes were delicious! I had Thai tea and it was really good; I thought it tasted pretty authentic! Jack (the owner and chef) is so sweet; he sent the most amazing Mango Sticky Rice to our table for dessert. Will definitely continue coming back and taking my friends here for great Thai food. I highly recommend coming here; the food is delicious and the staff is so kind, thoughtful and efficient.

Binh Minh Quan
338 12th St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
Binh Minh Quan is an above average Vietnamese restaurant that is very clean with modern decor. One can tell it didnt want to be another ghetto pho spot with cheap decor. A lot of thought went into the restaurant when they took over from the previous restaurant which was also Vietnamese.Pho and Bun are great as well as the Vietnamese crepe. They also have different restaurant fare than other Vietnamese restaurants like curry dishes and fish.Unlike many Pho places in Oakland, this restaurant takes care in each of its orders and doesnt seemed rushed like the other Vietnamese restaurants in Oakland.Friendly staff. A quirky upstairs restroom - I doubt this is accessible for people with disabilities - and fun fact the upstairs before it became a restroom used to be a weird sort of stage back when the spot was I believe a bar years ago!Highly recommended if you want to go to a classy Vietnamese restaurant and avoid the down, dirty and grimey spots!

Pintoh Thai

PINTOH took over Adams Mediterranean offering thai street food. Minimal decor with no structural changes. Its run by a couple from SF along with a five week old baby. What makes them a standout from its surrounding competition is a recipe from a friend of theirs. This chef hails from San Diego in town to help family settled in with restaurant operations. Service is good and attentive never left me out of the loop. Checking be on me making sure everything was ok. As for the food, it went very well. Started my evening with a small bowl of Tom Kha Chicken soup. Tasty and hot with plenty of mushroom buttons floating. Next up was Khao Soi with chicken. Not a first timer on this, but know what to expect. Nice presentation with a clump of crunchy noodle in center surrounded by broth. Only gripe was the noodle, said to be crunchy, but it was a little on softer side. Didnt let that deter me from not eating and went on to finished it. Of course, youll need a drink to wash it down. Since Im already at a thai restaurant why not go for iced thai tea? Owner A.K made in per order and brought it over himself. Told me it was on the house. Wow!!! Now thats how you impressed your patrons on your day off opening.

Vulcan Thai Cafe

It is Oakland - There are many other better options.Ordering experience:1. Made my order over the phone and was told food will be ready in ten minutes and be there by then.2. Even though he takes credit card, the owner of a one man shop insisted I pay in cash once he saw a few bills in my wallet. I said I need the cash and he kept insisting I give him some cash and pay some on my card - LOL - I called in the order to support local biz by not using the menu app.3. Right after signing the reciept, he says, okay, give me 10 minutes to cook your food. Ha - so I guess he didnt trust my phone order which he got wrong and over charged me for anyways.Quality Summary:-WASTE OF MY TIME-PAD SEE-EW - very very meh (it is not my fav dish anyways)-CRAB FRIED RICE: very meh - not the worst but close to one of the worst-GREEN AND PANANG CURRY was watery - Both Curry Dishes were funny colored, meat was rubber, and not creamy at all-SHRIMP ROLLS - Never even made it into my bag even though I asked multiple times if everyting was in there.-SICK FACTOR - Hopefully I dont get sick now ?

BEWARE of this filthy restaurant with no integrity! Tonight I ordered the chicken noodle Pho to be delivered (though Grubhub), it came only for me to find out that the vegetables inside of the bag (containing basil leaves, slices jalapeno, sliced onion, cilantro and a lemon wedge were covered in a white slime) aka rotten. I called, didnt receive any sort of acknowledgement only Ill send more vegetables...Okay...so I wait for 30 minutes & a whole new soup comes with a new bag of vegetables, delivery guy is apologetic and bam..same problem. Vegetables are slimy, cilantro is black-basically rotten veggies again. I call to let the guy know that I am not interested in his soup with rotten vegetables and I would like a refund, no sorry, no nothing, just okay and hangs up on me.Well I ordered through GrubHub and I get a message from them letting me know that this dirt-bag doesnt want to refund my money, he will only issue a credit for his filthy restaurant...seriously?? Who in their right mind would go back to a place that has such low standards and no integrity? I call the owner up and he tells me no one else has had a problem with the soup or the vegetables except for me. I tell him to send his guy over to pick up the rotten food and he can examine it himself-he doesnt want to hear this he wants to pretend that Im trying to get 2 soups for free...as if...and hes refusing to refund the money.DONT BUY FOOD FROM THIS FILTHY RESTAURANT THAT SERVES ROTTEN VEGETABLES AND THEN TRIES TO KEEP YOUR MONEY. Go somewhere else that has standards and integrity dont support a business who rips people off!Im sure the health department will love to hear all about this guy. Good luck jack ass!

Pho 84

Ive been wanting to come here on Sundays but found out they are closed on this day. This place was actually recommended by the owners nephew who I know. Good thing tonight I happen to be nearby and decided to come in. The restaurant is clean and has got a good decor. Food and service is quite good. I ordered the grilled pork vermicelli. To my surprise it is not your typical Vietnamese vermicelli. I would consider it fusion Vietnamese. Instead of a bowl the meal is served on a plate. It looks like they are trying to accommodate the Western taste in every way. I was most impressed with the egg rolls. I normally dont like the standard Vietnamese egg rolls which are stuffed with some unknown mushy meat. However, the ones here are stuffed with ingredients that you can see and know what they are. Overall the food experience was good. I cant wait to find out how they serve their Pho and rice plate on my next visit.A couple of things to watch: parking is awful around the area. Its better to come at night. During the day its all metered parking so that will add cost to your meal. Secondly, prices at this restaurant are about 50% higher than your standard Vietnamese restaurant. I normally pay $10 somewhere else but here I paid $16 plus tips. Still a good experience.

Ph Ha Lo Vietnamese Restaurant
720 International Blvd, Oakland, CA 94606, United States
I will stake my review writing career on this. The Best Pho Place Ever! (or until Im proven wrong). Im tired of hearing that Westminster has great pho it is a lie. Here are my requirements for The Best Pho ever:1. Super Bowl the pho must have this name. If it shares a name with the biggest sporting event, the pho size should be as impressive. In the battle of Man verse Food. Food should win. No Vietnamese size portion, but more like big over weight obese American portions. I do not want to have to order extra meat or a side of pork chop. (Even a medium pho should be Large)2. The best item on the menu should be the combination of pho with everything. Tripe, brisket, rare steak, etc.3. The soup broth should be perfect. It should taste like it took 48 hours to make and came from a family kitchen. No can stuff or MSG that makes you so thirsty you keep refilling your water every minute.4. A Pho place must specialize in Pho. I dont want to hear how great the fried rice or Thai ice tea is.5. The restaurant should be filled with Vietnamese customers to validate authenticity.6. The noodle should be cooked just right. It should not be clumped together or soggy. The meat to noodle ratio should be 1:1 or more than 50% meat. No all noodles with 3 pieces of meat type BS!7. The bean sprouts, jalapenos, limes, and mint leaf must all be fresh. The garnishes, however, should not be needed to add flavor.Pho Hoa Lao, you excel in every category. Very clean restaurant with large portions. There are lot of bomb rice dishes if you dont feel like pho. Get the egg rolls if you are super hungry, but you probably will not need them. Service is fast and the parking is convenient. Highly recommended!

Battambang
850 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
Food was solid, but not spicy enough, and felt a bit Americanized in flavor compared to the best southeast Asian restaurants. Battambang is not bad by any means but, but is unmemorable and in my opinion isnt really worthy of the hype it gets.

Cam Huong
702 International Blvd A, Oakland, CA 94606, United States
Ive been coming to Cam Huong ever since it was located on Webster in Chinatown. I used to order food here for catering parties at Asian Health Services. Ive always had a crush on the younger lady who I speak to now and then. The food reminds me of old Oakland Chinatown which used to have affordable comfort food including Cantonese and Vietnamese food now hard to find, so going to Cam Huong is like getting Soul Food to me. Ive been coming here for 25 plus years. So the reasoning behind a 3 star review is this. I bought what I usually get, prepared rolls, a dessert from the freezer, ice coffee and a vegetarian sandwich - bi chay. I waited and waited and heard the staff yelling at each other in Vietnamese about a vegetarian sandwich. And then I thought oh great, I hope they dont mess it up.So it turns out after riding my food to the Lake on my bike to eat, after opening my sandwich- it was filled with CURRY TOFU???I was so insulted. To make it worse, the one I have a crush on made it.I hate when establishments think I dont know what Im ordering and give me a bait and switch just to get me out the door. Made me mad that I gave them a good tip too as I usually do.Have yet to go back as Im still upset.

Chez Sovan
923 Old Oakland Rd, San Jose, CA 95112, United States
I want to visit Chez Sovan again and again with my family and my friends!Food/Drinks: Amok, Chicken Curry, Cambodian Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk• Amok - Although the basa fish was not served in a banana leaf like I was expecting (perhaps they may be expensive!), it being in its sauce made me excited to try it! A part of my first meal of the day, my initial bite of it pleasantly shocked my taste buds—steamed, melt-in-your-mouth fish with a sweet and savory flavor. We even ended up taking our little bit of leftover sauce home to eat with rice!• Chicken Curry - This bright orange curry with the colors of the chicken, potatoes, and carrots peaking through was a sight to behold that helped wake me up! It had a flavorful, comforting taste with spices that warmed my body. We took our leftovers home and even were given extra to go with it!• Cambodian Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk - Served with a spoon of condensed milk to mix the coffee with, I was glad to have another refreshment besides water! It had a balanced flavor with the bitter coffee and the condensed milk for sweetness. I just wish I had a bigger serving!• We were also offered a variety of candy for dessert!Service/Ambiance: Feels like a home and a close community• Bryan welcomed us in and immediately we felt his amazing aura—funny, kind, and like a cool uncle. He recommended dishes to us and throughout our lunch he made us laugh and made sure we were taken care of. It felt like him and his family welcomed us with open arms and served us a home-cooked meal!• Numerous customers came in and made themselves comfortable—conversing with Bryan and their usuals being known by him, walking around, sitting close to the kitchen; we could tell that they were regulars! There were also customers whose older family members recommended Chez Sovan to them—of course, Bryan remembered who they were when they were brought up in conversation. And, like us, there were first-time customers who have seen and heard positive reviews of the restaurant and are now a part of the family—it is now our turn to pass on the torch!Parking: Somewhat difficult to find parking• We parked on Madera Avenue, a street in the bordering neighborhood, which Chez Sovan is at a corner of. There is a small parking lot close to the restaurant with limited spaces; it was full when we arrived there on a Thursday right before opening time at 11 a.m.
