Red 88 - Davis
223 G St, Davis, CA 95616, United States
I had a wonderful experience in this restaurant. It was our first time there we came Saturday for lunch. It was quite empty during that time so we were able to receive our food quite quickly. There’s a larger variety of different foods especially Asian fusion, there’s a great variety of cocktails, but there was an amazing Thai tea, I also really enjoyed the pumpkin fries and their mango salad. The waiter was very kind I hope to go there again.
Davis Sushi & Fusion
1260 Lake Blvd Suite 103, Davis, CA 95616, United States
If you do the buffet its basically five very similar versions of the same roll that just repeat over and over... I would not say terrible but not great... Good may be even a little generous. They have other items they throw on the boats but nothing expensive or amazing. The other side of the buffet has chicken, spring rolls, potstickers and some other stuff. Micro cookies and a pepto flavored mouse ??? cup.... That side was nothing to write home about even if your postage is free.PARKING... Not the fault of the buffet but its like trying to find a spot in San Francisco... TERRIBLE! And our visit was on a weeknight moments after 5 PM.You can get sushi just as good or even better with more variety from Winco or Bel Air... Save the $19.95 a person for all you can eat and put that on something you have a say in for what is included.Staff was nice and sevice for drinks was fine - but thats hard to fail at when the customer gets their own food off a micro floating armada in an indoor moat.
T-Kumi Ramen & Rice Bowl
Second Floor, 1260 Lake Blvd #267, Davis, CA 95616, United States
Its tasty, you have to open your egg first because doing so makes the broth thicker. For Tonkatsu ramen its very thin broth. Personally I like a thicker both, taste wise it did not disappoint. The noodles and thick and tough not soggy which is good, you can let your ramen sit for a while to soften the noodles to your likeing. This is my second time getting ramen here so for its consistent and I appreciate that. Its also very clean inside, its has chairs and tables inside to sit down and eat but its set more for take out. The employees are also all very nice and inviting great people skills so Id go again and Id recommend it to others?Oh and the images below are what I got, the black garlic tonkatsu with pork chashu, it has a smoky taste compared to og tonkatsu

Burma Eat is seriously great. The food is of excellent quality and there really isnt anything like it in town. Im so glad that Davis has a restaurant like this because it is a complete breath of fresh air to the food scene here.Burma Eat is serves up Burmese food (obviously). If youre wondering what kind of dishes and flavors there are here, think a fusion of Thai, Indian, and other Asian tastes. The food is infused with a good amount of spice and flavor to really tantalize your taste buds. Many of the dishes have some spicy heat to them. One of my favorite items is the mint chicken. With a name like that you might think it has a minty fresh taste. Well... not really. The jalapeños.. in the dish really shine and give it a kick. Its not over the top hot, but the sizzle is there. I personally love it and get this dish any time I can.If youre looking for something lighter, there are a variety of salad options to try. The salads are also unique here. Youre not going to find your traditional Cobb or Caesar. The salads are particularly good on hot Davis days when you can eat at their shaded patio. The menu has a ton of optionss and Im sure youll find something to enjoy when you visit. From noodle dishes to items that go great with rice (like the tender eggplant I had for lunch), there are many things choose from.Burma Eat is a little pricier than your traditional college town food. It took over the old Mikonos location before they moved a few store fronts down. The pricing is similar. Its well worth it for the quality and unique tastes that you find here!
Crepeville
330 3rd St, Davis, CA 95616, United States
Food was delicious. Two in our party had the Denver crepes. One had an apple cheese crepe. One had the Nutella crepe. I had to do an omelet because of my gluten issues, but they made it the California style for me. Im a big fan of anything with sun-dried tomatoes in it, so that in the pesto along with the spinach and avocado among the other tasty ingredients, was delicious for me. Everyone else loved their food, too. Even the potatoes served on the side were being raved about. My husband joked hed go back just for a plate of the potatoes. They were super busy when we went, but the long line to order moved fairly quickly and we didnt wait an unreasonable amount of time for our food. The order taker was friendly. They had two people come out to serve our food so wed all get it at the same time. My only minor gripe was that if you wanted to sit in the covered outdoor eating area that was a little less crowded than inside, you (and the wait staff) had to go back out the front door and negotiate through the big line still waiting to get in to get to that part of the sidewalk. If this restaurant ever gets the funds to pay for a small side door for customers to more easily get to that outside eating area, that would make it just about perfect. But based on the food and customer service alone, its nearly there already.
Wok of Flame
417 Mace Blvd, Davis, CA 95618, United States
Great food, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere. Wok of Flame is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Davis. The menu includes all of the customary dishes we are used to seeing in America, plus some interesting fusion- style dishes and a small selection of items from other Asian cuisines (e.g. ramen, soba etc.). One of my very favorite things about WoF is that in dishes where the protein is customarily deep-fried (sweet & sour pork, orange chicken, mandarin beef), you can request that the meat be wok-seared rather than breaded and deep-fried. This not only cuts down on fat and calories, it transforms the dish into a lighter, fresher experience. Delicious! Their renowned green beans are also well-deserving of their excellent reputation.
Honey D Cafe
213 E St, Davis, CA 95616, United States
This is a small shop I passed by on my memorial day. I usually only rate the taste of the food, but the proprietress is really friendly and enthusiastic ?Positive review: Their braised pork rice series has the most flavorful soups in the United States. It may be tied for first place with Red Lantern's braised pork rice (sorry, I've basically only eaten it in the East and West Americas), but her braised pork rice series has the most flavor in the United States. The pilaf rice is more generous and the side dishes are better. In addition, the side dishes in their rice noodles are also very rich and taste good, and the two popular milk teas they ordered for drinks are also among the best.Five stars is okay?
Pho Tasty
301 G St, Davis, CA 95616, United States
This review is going to be based on two dine in visits. I was excited for a Vietnamese place to be in Davis because I do not like the other one that's in town.First time: it was around dinner hours. The inside decor was nice. There were a few tables already filled there. They didn't seemed to be well staffed so it took them awhile for someone to pop out and be able to seat us. We got our menus and I looked at the selection. Interesting to see some Chinese dishes as well that I was curious about for another time. I was there to try the basics: spring rolls, banh mi and pho. My friend and I shared the shrimp and pork spring rolls- they were good and the peanut sauce was delicious. I wished there was more to dip. Next my banh mi came out. I ordered the special banh mi that had the egg, grilled pork and cha lua along with the typical fixings. It came as a “meal” with sweet potato fries and a drink. The banh mi bread itself felt fresh and nicely toasted. The filling was a bit skimpy but tasty enough. I love the fried egg as you don't see many places do that around here. I was not pleased with the sweet potato fries as there were only a few on the plate and they were overdone. What's the point of this? To sell it at a higher price point? They should scrap the fries/drink meal idea and just fill up the sandwich more. Last, came out the pho. I got the small filet mignon and beef balls. The beef balls were typical bo vien so I was content but the meat was thick, tender and delicious. I haven't had beef in pho like that and it was worthy. There were a good portion of noodles. The broth was clear and tasted decent on its own. Overall, the meal was satisfying and I was looking forward to trying this place again. The service was decent but they do need to hire more people.Second visit: this was around lunch hour. I was craving some spring rolls and pho, so I went back to see if the first time was a fluke. Unfortunately, this time the food was truly disappointing and killed my craving for Vietnamese food in Davis. I waited awhile for someone to pop out until I was seated. He was nice, but they do need more staff in general. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls and a small filet mignon pho since the meat was so tasty last time. My spring rolls came out and I was excited until I started eating. For some reason, there was a slight sour aftertaste. I think something went bad in the peanut sauce. I kept trying and tasting but that sour taste did not go away. I kept picking at it and taking it apart to pinpoint what was wrong. I was hoping the pho would redeem this already terrible meal. As I saw my bowl arrive and placed in front of me— I was confused because the meat did not look the same. It's the thin slices of eye round that I would get at any pho place. There wasn't much of the meat as I was hoping since I didn't get the beef balls this time and there was barely any noodles. I was truly unimpressed. They're still new, so maybe they have things to work out these inconsistencies. Maybe I'll try this place again at later down the road but I definitely lost my appetite for it.
Cajun Feast
206 3rd St, Davis, CA 95616, United States
Let me preface this review by saying I didnt order any of the cajun food (on the left side of the menus?). Therefore, my critique of them will be excluded from this review. I eventually plan on returning to try their cajun food and update this review or make a new one altogether. This place opened up in early January 2020 next to the wildly popular iTea in Davis. Based on the name of the restaurant, I thought it would be a strictly cajun-based restaurant but was surprised to see that they offer Asian dishes as well. Based on the reviews written before this one, I didnt know what to expect. Based on my recollection of the menu, they offer cajun dishes, chef choices (I think all Chinese-Asian dishes?), and a build-your-own dish option.I ordered one of the chef choices dishes to-go: Mapo Tofu with rice (see attached photo). Mapo tofu is traditionally (I think) made with tofu, ground beef, chili oil, doubanjiang, Sichuan peppercorns, and scallions for the garnish. The restaurants version of mapo tofu covered most if not all of the bases with a few additions: jalapeños and peas/carrots for the garnish. As expected, the dish was spicy and the tofu was very silky. For those worried about the spiciness, the spiciness is transient and fleeting which helps make the dish more enjoyable. Im not sure as to how I feel about the jalapeños addition because the spiciness was mostly from the chili oil and the doubanjiang. My only complaints about the dish are as follows:1) There didnt seem to be enough peppercorns as I barely tasted them when I ate the dish. The spiciness from Mapo tofu is generated from the chili oil (provides a scorched taste bud sensation) and the peppercorns (provides a numbing effect). Upon closer inspection of the dish, I could barely see any traces of the peppercorns.2) I wouldve preferred if the dish was more saucy. There didnt seem to be enough sauce to generously coat the tofu cubes and the rice.Despite these flaws, this restaurant is new (at the time of this review) and the chef(s) will probably be tweaking the menus in the upcoming months. For a college town restaurant, the dish was really good and I got my bang for the buck (the portion size for mapo tofu is generous and fills you up).I definitely will eventually return to this restaurant to try their other food options.
