Crustacean Restaurant
1475 Polk St, San Francisco, CA 94109, United States
Ive been frequenting this location dating back to the early 2000s.After COVID, I have dine a couple of times and quite frankly thought Id see significant changes in cleanliness since there had been at least 2.5 years of closure. However, last nights experience was unforgivable. With the automatic 20% gratuity price increase. Nothing stays the same..granted, in 23..However, 2 Crabs, 2 orders of garlic noodles, 1 Tiger Prawn w/garlic noodles $42, 1 Mango Salad, 1 Crab Wonton order and 3 glasses of water isnt worth $400+dollars. We are a fine dining weekly family, lets be clear. We expect to pay for quality and a good experience..However, this unacceptable..Poor financial management and price gouging. The elevator is at your own risk. It squeaks, its filthy outside and inside the door and floor your shoes stick to the old wood. The track of the elevator is also black, caked with debris. No heat on a wet, cold 6:30 p.m. evening. Freezing cold throughout the entire restaurant..When it was brought to the attention of the maître d his response, its going to warm up soon. Soon never came. Everyone ate with a heavy coat or sweater bundle as if it was a rooftop restaurant. The dress code you ask? NO, longer.. Sweats, T-shirts, tennis shoes and a beanie is acceptable. Most looked as if they had just rolled out of bed literally..To this end, I will be reevaluating how we dine on Sunday nights in San Francisco as residents of the East Bay, when traffic, toll and public parking is a factor as there is no more valet here. You got us last night!
Henrys Hunan Restaurant

My WORST dining experience ever. Not one of, IT IS THE WORST FOR MY PAST DECADES. I was so furious when I got out of this place. They dont know how to serve clients and that is fine. Evev worse, they dont respect people at all. When we questioned about why the final price on the bill was that high, they were so reluctant to show us the details of the bill. They firstly shouted out to each other these people dont want to pay, then they carried the calculator with such an attitude to our desk with I will calculate it for you, followed with each rice is 1.5, you ordered 8 how much is it - listen, is it the way you treat your clients? And just a BTW, we just got two large bowl of rice, and I have never seen restaurant charging people for rice in this weird way. Then I was like you said you will do the calculation, right? Please. And you know what happened then? The waitress just STARED at me at a second with such a cursy look! I swear to God that is the MOST evil/terrible/intimidating stare I have ever experienced. It was like I had done something un-excuseable to her. I got so infuriated so I had to close my eyes, kept silent, and let my friends deal with it, otherwise I was afraid I would just fight with them. And I am not lying - I took out my phone and was ready to call 911 because the crew there had already crowded our table and we had a girl with us.Oh and did I forgot to mention that they charged a dish 35 bucks, which is marked as 25 in their menu? When we questioned, they were like you have to pay! Everyone else from such a long while ago paid 35!Oh and did I also forget to mentioned that we waited there 60 minutes for our food and the crew there were just sitting in the lobby playing mobile games? [smilence]To be fair, their food is ok. But trust me, it is not worthy at all because of their terribly-terrible service - unless you are willing to take the risk to destroy your day.
Thanh Long Restaurant
4101 Judah St, San Francisco, CA 94122, United States
This is a must try spot in SF. Im giving it 4 out of 5 because it didnt quite meet my expectations but it was still an all-around perfect experience. I made a reservation and my group ran 30 mins late coming from out of town. Fortunately, Thanh Long is a flexible place but they do have a couple rules. Youre waitlisted if your party doesnt show within a half hour, and if you dont show at all, they will charge your card a fee. Having valet outside is great when you have to park in SF so that was nice along with having a full bar inside to wait. The food. The food is as good as most talk about. I got the roast crab and my friends got the drunken crab and villagers shrimp plate. We also each had garlic noodles on the side. Everything was delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and service was great. I will say that Ive eaten at a couple places that have come close to the food at a cheaper price but the price wouldnt stop me from coming here again to treat myself or others. Why didnt it meet my expectations? For all the amazing reviews this place has received as well as the price, I expected something to stand out that much more including the ambiance. It had the white tablecloths, wooden interior, great food, but nothing was really quite unique about the whole experience. However, you will see me back again.
Castro Indian Restaurant & Bar
468 Castro St, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States
The place is very very nice, the people are actually from India or from the south asian area, which is a good sign, and they are also very friendly and quick. The food was good but even though it was mild spicy it was still too spicy for me :') I couldn't eat all of it so I brought it home and I thought they were going to wrap it up but they left the job to me. I got a mango lassi but in my opinion it was not as tasty as I imagined. But overall we ate good, it's just maybe not my style, but my sister and father enjoyed it a lot!! The atmosphere is nice and welcoming, there are enough tables outside and inside and there's one bathroom. There are a lot of vegetarian/vegan options which is very important to me. We paid around $100,something in three people, we got 4 dishes and 2 drinks with 2 little buckets of rice. Would recommend! Thank you love youu
Maple SF Restaurant
5820 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94112, United States
This is the Chinese restaurant of choice for my partner and me, whether takeout or dine-in, they give big portions, and inflation didnt hit too hard here compared to other Chinese restaurants that my family (Chinese-American) used to eat at, so it is more affordable here but still great quality authentic SF-Chinese-American. Id recommend the Tomato Beef Chow Mein, which is basically how I judge Chinese restaurants in SF (its historically an SF Chinese-American specialty). You can request thin crispy pan fried noodles for it too, which is my favorite variation. We also really loved the orange chicken, very tasty. We only dined in once, which was our first time, but the waiter was a polite young man.
Hunan Empire Restaurant

We order from this restaurant once a week. the delivery man and owner would be so nice and friendly. I would really enjoy our brief encounters when he'd drop off our food. We had a incident last week where we ordered dinner and once I got up stairs I noticed we were missing an item. I'm not the one who order, it was my sister. So she calls to tell them they forgot an item and all hell broke loose. The lady answering the phone says it was out in there and we are mistaken. We told them repeatedly and they insist on us sending photos of how the bag was delivered. We comply send all they are requesting while they are being very rude continuously saying we are wrong. This goes on for a while mind you, my family is waiting to eat dinner. We tell them it doesn't really matter we needed the food so go ahead and charge us. He finally drops it off and has a huge attitude saying it was there he knows it because he has a “photo” of my order showing a Chinese container in it. I don't know who's it was because it wasn't in my bag.Fast forward, today we ordered dinner. He drops it off per usual and I ask him to please wait while I check it in front of him. He says ok. When I said everything was good and wave goodbye to him he walks away shaking his head like I did anything offensive. Unbelievable how rude he is acting when he was so sweet and kind before. Disgusting treatment. We always tip and never had a problem before these incidents.Too bad for them. The food isn't bad. Regular standard Chinese food. Nothing special but also tastes fine. If you or your family are reading this sir, you need to learn how to treat your customers better. We have been getting food from you for a decent amount of time and this is the way you handle mixed up orders. You have left a bad taste in my mouth. Shame on you. I hope you get your act together and maybe do the right thing and apologize. Seriously, you lost nothing. We paid for your mistake. You should be thankfuf to have regular customers. All for $10 bucks that they didn't have to pay. Ridiculous and highly disappointing. Buyers beware. Terrible service. Service is everything. Yes of course the food must taste good but if the service isn't good, it's a hard pass for me.
E&O Kitchen and Bar

Was searching for a place to grab dinner near Union Square on a Friday night. Looking at the reviews, I had no hopes of finding a spot here without waiting at least an hour, since this was the second most highly rated places nearby. Decided to still check it out. Totally worth it!!!Location: Two blocks from Union Square, it is located on the corner of Sutter and Grant. Parking can be annoying around here and so can be the traffic.Wait times: Like I said, I had no hopes of getting a table here on a Friday night, but we were seated the minute we walked in. Although the place was busy, they have a lot more tables than most popular SF restaurants.Ambience: This place has a really upscale vibe. The place is huge! I didnt realize it till we were leaving but they have an entire floor above where theres seating available. The place is not too brightly lit, ideal for dinners (especially dates). It isnt loud even though theres plenty of people here. I dont recall any music (if there was any, it wasnt loud).Service: The service was fantastic throughout the evening. I was surprised how quickly we were served Food and drinks, even though it seemed pretty crowded.Food: First of all, I really appreciate if a good food joint has an equally good selection for drinks. The cocktail menu was amazing!!! All the cocktails were delicious and creative!! Pisco Lychee was my favorite. The others we ordered were equally good: Tequila Tamarind (a spicy margarita), Bourbon Maple and another one thats the last one on the menu which I cant remember the name of. The beer and wine selection was also great. The food was delicious, although a little pricey for the portion size. We ordered the corn fritters and the dumplings from the special Chinese new year menu and they were kind of okay, but the rest of the food was amazing. The items that I definitely recommend were the baby back ribs (they were so good, we ordered another one), the Indonesian fried rice, the poached prawn salad and the bao.Overall, had a great experience here. Definitely recommend going here (especially on a date). Will be returning (hopefully soon), for the cocktails and to try the other delicious stuff on the menu.

Excellent lunch spot! Im from out of town, and I stumbled upon this restaurant by happens chance. What a find! With so many cookie cutter places, this place has an excellent mix of asian fusion and traditional american food. For lunch, I had the Stone Pot which had a nice combination of rice, veggies, spices, and egg which is similar to bibimbap. I sat down as a party of one, and after a few minutes I was graciously offered another seat which would help the restaurant accommodate additional guest. It was no big deal to me, but they offered me a free drink of my choice for any inconvenience.
Cantoo Latin Asian Rotisserie
572 O'Farrell St, San Francisco, CA 94102, United States
I really, really enjoy the food and service at Cantoo Latin Asian Rotisserie! After reading and hearing reviews, I got the chance to go with my mom. We ordered the Combo Valenciano, Singapore noodles, and a cheese empanada. All were delicious! The Combo Valenciano comes with rotisserie chicken, fried rice, two sauces, and coleslaw. Im not a fan of coleslaw, but this one rocks! I usually dont like coleslaw because theres usually too much dressing that makes the slaw soggy. Not this one. Its light on the dressing so the veggies stayed crunchy. The rotisserie chicken was moist and had good seasoning. It paired well with the fried rice. The Singapore noodles had good texture and seasoning. My mom was afraid it would be spicy, but its more peppery. I thought it also paired well with the chicken. Im not familiar with Venezuelan empanadas, but I will say I thought it was good. The dough is fried, so it can be a little greasy. But I liked the texture and honestly you cant go wrong with cheese wrapped in a fried dough. The dessert is not on their menu, so it may be a limited option. We ordered the flan, which had a slightly airier texture than Mexican flan. It had a light caramel sauce that wasnt too sweet. The strawberries and limes balanced the caramel with their acidity. We dined in and its a casual vibe. Its the basement level of the building. No frills with the decor, so all focus is on providing delicious food and excellent service. Seriously, service is top notch! The women who work there were super welcoming and were always available if we had any questions. We had leftovers and each takeout bag comes with a handwritten thank you note in 3 languages. How thoughtful is that!!?!?My family and I ordered recently for take out. We got the Combo Valenciano again so my dad can try it. We also got the croquetas de camarones, stir fry soy sauce noodles, fried calamari, and the pollo agridulce. They hit it out of the ballpark again. Everything was sooo good! The shrimp croquettes were like shrimp lumpia that came with a sweet and sour sauce. The pollo agridulce is their sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was fried lightly and the sauce tasted homemade (like, it didnt taste artificial). It made for good leftovers. The calamari also had a different spice to it, which was yummy. The stir fry soy sauce noodles was packed with savory flavor. This is one of the best restaurants in the Tenderloin. Not only the food is spectacular but it's at a great price! The combo is currently $9. And I cant think of any other place on the city like this. Asian-Latin fusion is common (mostly Filipino-Mexican or Korean-Mexican in my experience). But Cantoo offers something different. Its a je ne sais quoi. You have to experience it for yourself.

My Take: yummy Asian fusion || Went For: Wednesday night dinner || The Vibe: the wait was too much to bear at their parent restaurant, Burmese Superstar, so their younger and hipper joint was worth a trip || Special Dish: B Sprouts || Avoid Their: overly tomato Mussels appetizer || Price Point: get in before 7pm for their sweet happy hour || The Service: good stuff, but not overly stuffy || Reservations: n/a but these two restaurants have a great system and customer service to keep their patrons happy || FYI, FRIENDS: they also have 2 pints during HH to get your ass drunk! -- Eat up, Kimmie
