Bill Lees Bamboo Chopsticks Restaurant
1203 18th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301, United States
My Husband has been coming to this establishment for the past 35 years or so and loves how it reminds him of his past. I have always disliked this restaurants food and preparation. I come here because it's my husbands past time nostalgia place. But I cringe every time we drive to Bakersfield because I know we will stop here to eat. The noodles are way too watery, there seems to be cornstarch or something used to make the food sauce thicker and it does not look pretty not appetizing on the beautiful plates. The food is bland, I asked for a substitute of gluten free soy sauce and it's disappointing that after all these years they still do not have this as an option for people who are wheat intolerant. The fried rice is bland, the fried shrimp ? has way more batter than the actual shrimp. The egg flower is great and the flaming zombie alcoholic beverage is the only thing I will eat. The pork ribs are always dry but perfectly cut and the presentation is great. The chowmein looks like wet slope and has too much bean sprouts in it. Likewise, I am ALWAYS disappointed and today I think I have convinced my husband to not return unless we go for drinks only. We usually come with 12 to 14 people but this time we all agreed we will just come for drinks next time. The chicken wings are ok…but drenched in an abundant amount of sauce. And the beef Broccoli ? looks horrible and didn't taste that great. I love the atmosphere and the staff is always so kind. Bathrooms need to have an hourly cleaning schedule and has been untidy that past few months we have attended. We come from Canyon lake ca about once every two months to visit family and enjoy the atmosphere. I quality is just not the same anymore. ?
Chefs Choice Noodle Bar
9000 Ming Ave Suite J-2, Bakersfield, CA 93311, United States
Ive been to Chefs Choice a few times in the past couple of years. The food is reliable, but not terribly exciting, and quite overpriced, especially compared to similar restaurants in Southern California. Yesterday, I decided to try the chicken satay ($13.50 for large order, with 4 pieces of chicken), since Ive been trying to eat fewer carbs. Chicken tenders were used, but they didnt seem like they were the freshest, as the meat fell apart quite easily. The meat was also dry and not at all juicy. They were supposedly marinated in coconut milk, curry paste, and cumin, but were pretty bland. I initially thought the peanut sauce had a weird texture, but since the chicken was so dry, I ended up using most of the sauce. The chicken was served with Texas toast (strange choice for an Asian restaurant), as well as pickled jalapeno/cucumber/red onion, which ended up being the best part of the dish (although it was described as a salad, Im not sure what kind of salad is served swimming in brine).Chefs Choice is somewhere I go if friends want to go, or if someone else is paying, but it is not a restaurant I seek out on my own time/money.
ReMix Asian Kitchen & Ramen
9450 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93311, United States
I miss them so much. They were hands down my favorite restaurant and I don't know where they went!I went to Remix to celebrate, to eat, to feel better, to unwind, to prepare, and to feel welcomed: it was a place where I felt at peace as if the food was healing. You can't pay enough for a place or people or food that makes you feel that way.Flame and Fire, O Ramen, Hon Ramen, Bentos, Vice Roy, Frugatties, and Hungry Hunter can't hold a candle to Remix and now that they are gone eating out isn't the same. The pork was always nice and thick pieces that were so tender they'd fall apart on your chop sticks! The broth was always creamy yet light and perfectly seasoned! The egg was always so well seasoned, and perfectly soft and creamy! the noodles!!!!! The noodles were always perfect and never ever slimy. Not to mention the staff: I loved talking with them, and they always remembered my wife and I, even if it had been several months: they always seemed l humble, and when I was at their table, I felt like I was welcomed by everybody, the owner would tell me about Japan and where he got his inspiration, his sister always remembered our orders, the young lady that worked the counter and cooked was always quick and very tidy, and the older woman who cooked knew how to make the food PERFECT and together their food and their restaurant made me smile. It's been a little over 3 months since they closed, maybe longer, so I finally broke down and went to O Ramen and it was so bad I nearly cried! The noodles were slimy, the egg tasted like smoke, the pork was as thin as deli meat, and the broth tasted like buttermilk!!! Not to mention my chicken katsu was so over cooked that the meat shriveled inside the breading. Maybe that's traditional ramen, I don't really know, but it tasted processed and over cooked.Remix I miss you and your whole family: it makes you guys who you are, and it makes you the best: even if you don't have a line out the door every Saturday night. Please come back, Bakersfield needs you!

Hot Pot Spot
1525 18th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301, United States
If you follow me here on Google reviews you already know that I have an Asian food obsession. This may not be a suprise to you that I had to try the only hot pot restaurant in Bakersfield.Location: 5 star - Right in the heart of down town, Bakersfield doesnt get classier than this hip hot spot. Their neighbors are remodeling what send to be a bar and have a construction mess.Vibe: 3 star - Honestly, they could put a barrier like planters down the center to break up the disagree and help customers feel more secluded.Service: 4 star - Waitress was kind and cool. She addressed us promptly and adhered to our tasteful preferences.Food: 3 star - Every dish except the lamb had corn. Not very traditional. Portion sizes were perfect though.
P.F. Changs
10700 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93311, United States
To preface, the store was NOT busy. Ive been in there when its busy, and I know what busy looks like in a restaurant seeing as I worked right across. Its been a bit, but Ive been swamped with work lately, but couldnt forget to review.I came in on April 27th with a party of three after a movie, the hosts were super kind, and welcoming and I was excited to eat here seeing as it had been a while since I last came to P.F. Changs. As a previous industry worker, literally right across the street from you guys at BJs. Im pretty decent at leaving a tip, but boy let me tell you.. If it wasnt for the fact that me not leaving a tip, meant that Id also be stiffing the wonderful food runners and bussers who brought EVERYTHING and refilled my drinks..... I would have left a big fat zero. The only thing our waiter did the whole time I was there, was take our order, bring a check I never asked for, and proceed to take ages to get me my boxes. I just wanted to leave. Not once were we asked how our food was(it was okay but the honey chicken was still doughy and undercooked), or if we wanted any refills. Our glasses remained empty for long periods of time before I had to resort to asking another staff member. Something I hate doing because I know that the section Im sitting in, is not THEIR responsibility. It was an incredibly uncomfortable and unenjoyable experience overall. I see the effort you made in trying to be nice but it was horribly offset by the lack of care in every other aspect of wait staffing. I get that you really dont get paid enough to care as much as I do in terms of a restaurant experience, but I truly believe that there are BARE MINIMUMS when it comes to holding a job in this industry. Its also going to help business, for YOU the waiter AND for the restaurant.P.F. Changs, thank your hosts, food runners, buses for saving you from a 1 star. This was an isolated experience and I do not speak on behalf of anyone. My complaints are directed at an individual and not the entire establishment. I have had great experiences and many memorable lunch breaks here. My current rating is for the current state of things.
Sushiko
3615 Coffee Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93308, United States
When it comes to SUSHI Rolls, Sushiko has that skill mastered. We ordered 2 Bento boxes with the California roll, the spicy California roll, the shrimp tempura roll, & the spicy salmon rolls we also ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl, the veggie gyoza, & the Mama Mia roll. Each roll was delightfully delicious. The miso soup was also pretty tasty. We did take our leftover rolls home, thats how yummy they are. Now, heres why I gave less stars: the teriyaki sauce was extremely salty, the gyoza was over cooked, the spicy salmon roll was mistakenly replaced with a filled of teriyaki salmon (which was also way over cooked & kind of burnt), the tofu in the miso soup was mushy. Also, the womens restroom was not well maintained & both stalls were out of seat covers. They are short staffed, as posted on the door when you walk in & I realize that their specialty is sushi rolls, not the other stuff. With that in mind, Im willing give it another shot in the future. The waitress was nice & tentative, the pricing was fair, & the music great (something my 35 y/o husband, my 12 y/o daughter & myself could enjoy together).
Panda Express
2659 Mount Vernon Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93306, United States
I absolutely can not believe what I just experienced at the Panda Express, Mall View.Monday May 24th 2:30 in the afternoon I parked and went inside to order. The drive thru had people parking all ascew, and I dont normally use drive thru any ways. The girl greeted me from behind the food line, they have the dining room partitioned off, you can only but step in. Which is fine. She came over, I asked if I could order from the doorway, she said yes, took my order, my, debit card. gave me the receipt. Said to meet her at the side door when my order was ready and she called my name.Today the temperature is 98 degrees, I was in the shade, but its warm. 15 minutes go by, I walk over to that side door. She comes to the door and says were waiting for your egg rolls itll be 5 more minutes. I said will Ive been standing out here now 20 minutes. Oh sorry she says. So I go back to the shade and finally 15 minutes later 3;05, she brings my food to the side door.REALLY, this is the new normal no fn way will I go back there. Thats rudeness of the worse kind, bad business practice, you dont leave a customer standing 30 minutes waiting for food thats already made.My biggest mistake, should have after the first 15 minutes asked for my money back. This is only the 5th time since all this pandemic began, that my husband and I have gotten take out .Right now I dont care if Panda Express on Mall View falls to the wayside along with some of the other restaurants. She simply could have said, no, go to the drive through this is for pickup and call in orders.
Kamisama Ramen
1400 Calloway Dr #101, Bakersfield, CA 93312, United States
We decided to go eat today 8/20/23 here because the first time we had it it was great and with this rainy weather ramen sounded really good. I think there was only two people in the restaurant, the server and the cook. The server handed us menus and right away asked what we wanted to eat not even giving us a chance to open the menu. When we decided to order we were going to get the pork ramen and the chicken teriyaki bowl. She said they were out of them so we told her we needed a minute to decide again. She came back about 1 min later and we ended up just getting whatever. We ended getting a yakisoba noodles and a bento box. We also got gyozas and they were bland and barely warm. The chicken on both was very dried out. We had also asked for bean sprouts and side of rice which we never got. We only got water and she never came back to refill us or check on us she was sitting down on her phone. We kept waiting until we just got tired and ended up getting up and going to the front desk to see if she was there and just paid at the desk. I was still going to get charged for for the side or rice and been sprouts that I never got and when I had let her know that we never got it she looked annoyed that I said it. Anyways worst experience I've had here. First time was a different server and she was amazing and the food was amazing. Not this time.
Panda Express
5041 Gosford Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93313, United States
In reflecting on my dining experience at Panda in December 2023, I must regrettably announce that this occasion marks the conclusion of my patronage of this once beloved culinary establishment. For over two decades, I derived satisfaction from partaking in its formerly affordable and high-quality cuisine. However, it has become evident that the priorities of the shareholders and corporate leadership have shifted in favor of maximizing profits at the expense of maintaining the distinguished quality that once defined this establishment. My culinary journey at Panda during this final visit was, to put it mildly, disheartening. The Chicken Egg Roll, which had once been a source of delight, now left much to be desired, exhibiting a lackluster flavor resembling that of oil from a deep fryer. Comparatively, even offerings from a fast-food chain such as Jack in the Box proved to outshine this lackluster rendition. The Honey Walnut Shrimp, a dish for which I had paid a premium, disappointingly arrived with a mere seven spongy and mushy shrimp, cloaked in a damp and doughy texture that fell short of any semblance of culinary mastery.Subsequent to the underwhelming start to the meal, my hopes were further dashed by the Teriyaki Chicken, which exhibited a rubbery consistency devoid of the charred allure one anticipates. Its flavor profile proved to be underwhelming and was accompanied by an unpleasant semi-raw texture, a departure from the culinary excellence that I had once associated with this dish. The Beijing Beef, a dish whose very name evokes the promise of succulent beef, instead failed to live up to expectations, reminiscent of the infamous 1980s Wheres the Beef campaign. This rendition was primarily composed of breading, with the minuscule presence of beef leaving much to be desired, resulting in an overall unsavory culinary experience. In the domain of side dishes, both the rice and chow mein failed to meet the standard of excellence I once associated with Panda. The rice, lacking in flavor and marred by undercooked, unyielding grains, left a disconcerting impression due to the presence of hard, unpalatable bits. While the chow mein marginally met expectations, it was hardly noteworthy, falling short of the threshold for a truly memorable culinary experience. This disappointing meal diverged so starkly from my expectations that I could not in good conscience subject myself to the prospect of consuming its remnants for lunch the following day, leading them instead to find their untimely resting place in the trash.I implore those who share my sentiments to reconsider the allocation of their resources and divert their patronage elsewhere. It is my fervent belief that by withholding our support in this manner, we can signal to these corporate entities that subpar offerings will not be tolerated. I, therefore, beseech members of the community to seek out alternative dining establishments, and in so doing, redirect their custom to more deserving purveyors of Chinese cuisine. In traversing the short distance to Rosedale and Coffee, one can experience the culinary delights that await at Bamboo Cafe. This alternative not only offers superior quality and larger portions but also harkens back to the flavors that once distinguished Pandas offerings. Let us collectively strive to uphold the standards of excellence in dining by supporting establishments that take pride in delivering a truly exceptional culinary experience.
