Despite decent food this establishment is racist towards not only POC but to anyone who is not Asian. They are in consistent in policies and does not value their customers.RESPONSE:Again. I would like to highlight the inconsistency of your policy. It was not until last week when said policy of DINE-IN has been set in place. Considering there is no advertisement of this policy it seems to me that it is up to who ever is working whether or not to enforce this rule.Utilizing your workers as examples on how your actions as an establishment is not racist in some aspect HIGHLIGHTS the idea that your establishment indeed has a racial bias.Again. As stated above your inconsistent policy and reaction to an opinion that was based of an experience that was created by YOUR place of business is the reasoning behind my post. So that future customers know what to expect when dinning at Oni Sushi. The service given and shown through your response may not be worth the cost of the decent/edible food provided to your future customers and before anymore time is wasted on their part I did them a service by expressing my experience to allow them to make their own decision. There are other overly priced sushi places here in Claremont that will provide an all around experience. However if my review was to personalized here is a semi unbias review of ONI SUSHIFood is decent.Establishment is semi cleanAsk for plastic silverwareOrder to go to avoid an influx of price (price increase will not be given if asked. subjected to be over priced )And to the workers at Oni Sushi, Please do not allow an establishment to use your culture/race/religion etc. to brand themselves as a non racist entity because by this response it seems as if they are the complete opposite.- Thank you

Stuffed Chicken Wings are butterflied and stuffed with ground chicken and glass noodle. The chicken wing flavor works great with peanut broth sauce. There is a lot of meat and filling. These could be a meal in itself. The outside is very crispy and contrasts nicely with the interior which resembles chicken meatloaf. Rating: 4/5Seafood Drunken Fried Rice is a generous portion. It has a lot of seafood, but the sauce used in the stir-fry is too sweet. It needs more shoyu (soy sauce) to balance out the sweetness. Medium spice level is perfect. Rating: 3.5/5Garlic Short Ribs has a nice flavor, just sweet enough. The meat needs to braise longer before flash frying as it is tough and dry. The garlic flavor needs to be pumped up as it is not apparent. Rating: 3.3/5Crispy Duck is too sweet. It would be better to serve the sauce on the side so duck stays crispy and customer can add the sauce to their liking. The vegetables helped to cut the sweetness down. It is also hard to tell what is bone versus meat with so much sauce in the dish. Rating: 3/5Coconut Creme Brûlée has nice coconut flavor. They use coconut milk versus cream so it is not as creamy as a traditional creme brulee. It tastes more like a sweet Asian omelet with big bubbles inside. Rating: 4.3/5

I am completely disheartened from yesterday evenings experience. As we walked inside to place our order, a waiter saw us, but didnt bother to acknowledge our presence. He proceeded to go about his business; which didnt seem like much since we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. Eventually, a waitress came out from the back to take our order. She seemed a bit short with us and told us to wait outside. She stated that the food would be ready in 15 minutes. As we waited, a number of other guests entered and were greeted right away. Some even lingered inside the restaurant and werent told to wait outside. I wasnt thinking too much of it because I preferred to be outside since we are in the middle of a pandemic. Well, over 30 minutes had passed, and we realized the waiter, along with the two itamaes, were looking at us through the window. Blatantly staring, but never gesturing us to enter. It actually made me very uncomfortable. We ignored it. Another 15 minutes passed and finally my partner entered to ask for our order. He had to present the receipt, which was odd because we were never out of sight of the restaurant workers since the windows were quite large. The waiter proceeded to gather our order, which had been sitting on the counter for who knows how long.I do not want to make any assumptions about anyone, however the whole experience had me questioning whether we would have received better service if we were not people of color. All other guests during the duration of our wait were white and seemed to be having a completely different, more positive experience than us. We didnt even eat our take-out because the whole experience was very upsetting. I have frequented this restaurant a number of times in the past, but will no longer be a patron of Kazama Sushi. I just hope this was an isolated incident and no other POC have to be treated that way by a POC owned business.

I ordered the plantspired steak. I asked the cashier if the vegetarian meat was prepared separately from the other meats. He stated yes. However, as I watched the cook prepare my plate, he cooked my vegetarian plantspired steak in a separte pan. After he was done with the plantspired steak, he then tossed the regular meat in the same pan after. That was not okay. I can only assume he had prepared regular steak in that same pan before he prepared my vegan meat. Gross. Then he proceeded to place my plantspired meat on the same cutting board he used to cut chicken and rib eye steak on. This is also not ok. WTH! People order vegetarian meat for a reason. This seems to be a regular occurrence at Waba grill. I will never go there again. Very unhappy customer.
50-Fifty Asian Fusion
201 N Indian Hill Blvd, Claremont, CA 91711, United States
My husband, myself, and a couple of good friends dined at 50 Fifty Asian Fusion in Claremont, last night for the first time as per my suggestion. We do a podcast in the area on most Saturdays and after the podcast we go to dinner most of the time. I’m the one that scouts out different restaurants and makes the reservations etc. When I called to make the reservation,Joyce, the owner was the one that answered the phone. She was so lovely over the phone. We also had the pleasure of meeting her in person at the restaurant. She is really a lovely lady and adds to the atmosphere. My husband said that it’s evident that she truly cares about her craft. I agree with him whole heartedly. We started with an order of Chickn Wings as an appetizer that we shared, those were very good. Two of us in our party, including myself, ordered the short ribs. These short ribs were the best I have had at any restaurant, so delicious. My husband tried some of my short ribs and he said they were fantastic. He also said that they were the best he’s ever had. One of our friends, ordered the pork loin, which he enjoyed. However, he also said that the short ribs were fantastic as did the other person that ordered it. My husband ordered the spicy noodles, with shrimp which he also enjoyed. The ambience /aesthetics of the restaurant is very pleasing. The prices are reasonable. The service was good. Our waiter was very nice and polite. He also brought the appetizer before we our Entrees. He brought the Entree’s shortly thereafter. All of us really appreciated his timing. We’ve been to restaurants where the servers will bring out the appetizers at the same time or after we’ve ordered the Entrees, which is silly. My husband made another observation, that the staff was wearing gloves and hair nets. I really wish more restaurants would do this. This is definitely a restaurant that the 4 of us all said we want to return to.

Im surprised at the negative reviews. I havent experienced an issue yet. I was here Friday night and ordered the tacos. I enjoyed them. I had 1 steak, 1 chicken and 1 shrimp. I really liked the fillings and thought the meats tasted good and cooked nice. I didnt really enjoy the tortilla part but it is just my taste buds and preference. Would I order them again, yes. I got a mini spicy chicken bowl today and thought it was substantial, filled me up and the price cannot be beat for what youre getting. I hope the consistency continues because its convenient to where Im living. Im also close to the upland store but would prefer to keep coming here.My original review was all 5 stars. I just went to this location again today on Sunday to get a free bowl and the woman behind the counter is extremely rude and she only packed the bowl up 3/4s full. This is what I wrote to the contact us:Hi.This is my 4th trip to Waba grill.I originally tried the Rancho location on Hellman a week ago and ordered a steak bowl. It was packed to the gills and had a bunch of great sauce. This is what got me hooked.I then went on Friday night to the Claremont location and had tacos. They were great and great service.I decided to get the app if I was going to become a regular.I went to Claremont yesterday and got a spicy chicken mini bowl and it was packed and full of sauce.I earned a free bowl worth up to 9.99.I returned to Claremont today and the woman firstly behind the counter was put off that I came in for a free bowl. Secondly was upset that I wouldnt take chicken automatically. The bowl came out in minutes and with her back turned to me asked a question. She was asking if I wanted sauce. One, its really rude to talk to customers and ask questions with your back towards them and two, its hard to hear the voice.I was going to ask her how much a half avocado costs and if it was ripe. But as I was asking she walked away to the back and pretended not to hear me.I didnt really want to interact with her anymore so I didnt pursue the topic and just went to Wholefoods and bought an avocado.I get home and this bowl is a weak excuse to how Ive had meals prepared in the close past.I understand its a free bowl but I feel like it should be treated the same way being prepared. I would be awfully frustrated if I paid $10 for this when its only 3/4 full and not much sauce & meat.If I go back and shes working I will not make a purchase.Thank You,Shaun HallSent from my T-Mobile 5G DeviceIts 8:15 PM Sunday night and Im updating my review back to 5 stars due to the caring phone call I received from Waba Grill.

First off let me say that I wish I would have asked the name of the woman who served me because she was on the ball! She checked on me attentively and sincerely, and was quick to refill my drinks without me asking. I appreciate the decor and ambiance of the place its cozy yet sophisticated on top of having a bar and patio makes for a really nice touch and good look especially for a date. Wink, wink! Theres some interesting food options to choose from being that its Asian Fusion, although, I went for something a bit more on the healthier side, a chicken bowl. The veggies werent soggy and had the right amount of crisp, but something about the chicken was a let down; I just cant put my finger on why - maybe overcooked, not juicy enough, or lacked seasoning, regardless I still enjoyed it and would probably order it again. I do look forward to trying other items or even stopping in to get a drink while reading a book off my phone or watch whatever they have playing on the tube. The bathroom is a bit cramped, but whaddya gonna do, its an older building and room is limited, however it was spectacularly clean so that made up for the lack of space. Next time I visit I hope Im served by the same woman; Ill be sure to get her name become she was absolutely wonderful!
Takahashi Market
221 S Claremont St, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States
Being born & raised in Hawaii and being away from home, makes you realize the food & atmosphere you truly miss from your roots. Living in the SF Bay Area, I am fortunate enough to have access to places like Takahashi Market. It is humble establishments (been around for a long time - decades!) like this that allow me to visit the ‘Aina within the physical context of my local area.Takahashi Market easily transports you to Hawaii, right when you step foot into their parking space! The space itself is a 1 story building at an intersection in San Mateo (close to downtown and the Verkada, a tech company's office). Because the space is small and we have to be precautious during these times, there usually is a line outside the door to queue patrons to enter the building. Standing in line allows you to build your excitement as you are able to peek into the market and get a sense of what aspects of Hawaii it is able to offer. In the market, there is only a small amount of cashier registers in the front and about 4-5 isles of Hawaii/Asia-inspired goodies to choose from! From perishable foods to hot musubis to Hawaii-based clothing merchandise, it seems like Takahashi Market has it all! I'd say this place is like a Swapmeet (Hawaii dubbed Flea Market) in a 1-story building! Even the prices are right on the dot for most, if not all, items! But you want to be careful that you don't end up buying everything in the market.I will always keep coming back here! I hope one day, the market may be able to expand to a 2nd story or location if possible. I can only see Takahashi Market continuing to maintain and grow its fanbase! And with that, I hope it will mean more resources to expand. If not, I am still fine with this, as the small Hawaii vibes are already excellent as is at the market. Thank you Takahashi Market Ohana for all you do!

I highly recommend this place for its value in price alone. I just tried their food and I love it. Rice and meat portion is substantial. For Asians its about right but if youre white you might say the rice is a bit much. Most of their food prices are $10 and Ill say their portions are good for 2 people unless if youre a big boy. Grilled steak is absolutely worth $15, I recommend the pro hok sauce. I love the food because of its flavors. Its savory and well balanced, not just soy sauce or salt flavor.Check the pictures below, I placed one of the food in a hefty 10 inch disposable plate so youll have an idea how much one $10 portion is.

I stumbled on this place after some Happy Hour plans fell through. I hadn’t eaten all day so their simple but varied menu piqued my interest. I called in my order of cucumber salad, beef roll, spicy wonton, and pumpkin pancake before heading over. The restaurant is located in an easy-to-find plaza with ample parking. They’re definitely new as a gentleman was hanging their storefront sign when I arrived. He greeted me as I made my way to the restaurant and I was also greeted right away when I entered. My food was ready and definitely freshly cooked as I snuck a bite of the pumpkin pancake once I got into my car. I was expecting it to be like the scallion pancake - a flakey dough with perhaps some pumpkin mixed through - but it was actually more like chewy, mildly sweet breaded pumpkin mochi. It was so. Good! I just finished eating dinner and my mouth is watering just thinking of those first bites.I drove home and sampled the rest of the dishes. The cucumber salad was light and refreshing as one would expect. The beef roll was smaller than other places and appeared to be deep fried versus the usual pan-fry but it wasn’t greasy at all. The spicy wontons were also solid though light on the sauce and hardly spicy. With that said, I wouldn’t hesitate ordering said dishes again.I moved to the area from the San Gabriel Valley and have been missing the top notch Asian food there. I typically still make my way to the 626 every other week or to get my fix but this place would definitely hold their ground against the best Taiwanese places in SGV! Plus so much more friendly, lol. I’m looking forward to trying more from their menu!
