Matsuyama Restaurant
939 Front St, Novato, CA 94945, United States
Matsuyama is a really unassuming place. Its quiet, and just enough out of the way that you might go by it without realizing. Its not big and fancy, sleek and stylish. Its quite homely, but also very cozy. But in a town that has several Japanese restaurants, Matsuyama has everything going for it.The menu selection is pretty substantial, a great mix of classic items and their own creations. Their gyoza, in particular, are spot on. They have the special prices at lunchtime, which is a great reason for locals to visit during work, and the portions are always enough that you are getting two meals worth. Even when it comes to the sushi. Now, one of my great shortcomings in life is that I cant eat sushi. But I can tell a story. I recently visited Matsuyama with a group of people who had never been there before, and many of whom enjoy sushi a lot. Every single one of them was impressed with the quantity and quality of sushi for the price.Matsuyamas notoriety in town is firmly grounded in its delicious food. Which, you know...for a restaurant is probably a good thing. I say the next time youre feeling like treating yourself to something special, definitely give this a try.
Batika India Bistro

By far one of Novatos best restaurants. Yeah I said that.if you havent been there yet you need to fix that problem. Their food and service is on point and the best part of it all is that they are still offering the same great food and error-free service during the pandemic. If you do go there there are a couple things to try.The Samosas. Amazing. Eat them fresh and hot.the Chicken Tikka Masala is out of this world. the sauce they make is good just by itself. The Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Vindaloo are also great main dishes. For the sides, the Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi and Dhingri Mattar are all amazing. The latter probably being one of my favorites. The Naan is AMAZING too. I believe they make it fresh there.Did I mention that the Samosas are amazing? If you like spicy foods, this is your place too. I love Spicy but no need for me to go past medium. Thats good enough for me haha.To wrap it all up, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!Enjoy!
Panda Express
975 Diablo Ave, Novato, CA 94947, United States
Order number 22 33 94Time 11:44 am. They were out of chicken. Teriyaki chow mein Beijing beef vegetable chicken. The guy that served me seemed hed rather be somewhere else and he was bored to take my order. As I waited for the food they said it would be 7 minutes for the chicken to be ready. 15 minutes later they played it up the chicken. My rice was cold. The fresh noodles that they were supposed to give me was like a half order. So after seeing my dish I went back and asked for more rice and more noodles and they basically threw them on the plate and sit here. Take it. Worst experience ever, I dont think Ill go back to that panda ever again. I hope whoever reads this can make changes in regarding the employees attitude regarding courteousness politeness, eye contact and maybe a smile wouldnt hurt. If I could give them half stars I would give them half stars. Worst experience ever. And they played it up my rice while everything else was cooking. Thats why it was so cold. And of course before the service was rendered I did donate a dollar to their cause. Got no. Thank you. No anything new management team new district manager or at least make aware that these are the things that are going on in the Novato Panda Express.
Masa Sushi
813 Grant Ave, Novato, CA 94945, United States
Let me start with the food, which is key for any restaurant. The sushi was fresh. The rice was loose, not sticky as it is supposed to be for sushi and sashimi. The spicy tuna roll was bland. The 3 piece tuna and 3 piece yellowtail were tasteless. I give the food 2 stars at best.Second, consider drinks. The sake was excellent (5 stars). I would return for more sake but not order any food. Third, the wait staff were very friendly and fast (4 stars), but the hostess was very inexperienced and wanted us to wait 20 minutes to sit down in order to let the waitstaff catch up (1 star). After 5 minutes, I talked to the manager and explained that we would be happy to sit at a table w/o service but not stand around. He seated us immediately and we waited 15 minutes before being waited on, which was fine. Overall service was 4 stars.Summary: this is an overpriced restaurant with very mediocre food and decor that one would expect from a take-out sushi restaurant. There are many such take out restaurants at 1/2 the price.

I like the food. But when u order two burrito ?. They always give me one bag off chips. And I have to ask him for another bag of chips. I don’t like do that. But if I order two burrito ? they should give a two bag of chips. And also giving you hands up check your receipt ?. Bad bad bad service. There is a person who works there or I think he is a Business owner son. He’s service is bad?? He doesn’t know anything about customer service. This is my last time here. Bad customer mer service. They nicely serve only Americans. Because they know they are in Novato. If They do any bad service to them. they know there restaurants will be slow down or shutdown. They don’t give a good service to Hispanic people or to asian people. Because I’m one of them.
Beso Bistro and Wine Bar
502 S Palm Dr, Novato, CA 94949, United States
Unfortunately I had high expectations for this place and I shouldnt have. My bf and I walked in last night, and there was the hostess, a server and two chefs in the front and none of them greeted us nor made eye contact for what felt like 5 mins. We patiently waited and then since it seemed as if they were just talking amongst themselves and not seeming to care if we were there we told them about arriving early for our reservation. We were willing to wait for a table knowing we came in 15 mins early. But the hostess lady was VERY RUDE, did not make eye contact and talked over us, and did not communicate to us that our table was ready and just stormed off to put silverware and menus down on a table in the patio (*note: there is only patio seating due to covid) and we asked if that table was for us and she just pointed at it and looked rudely at us like we were supposed to know to follow her.Anyways, so we sit down and look over the menus, and our server passes us multiple times and doesnt even greet us. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, I looked around - theres a few tables out here, I thought to myself that maybe hes new or feeling rushed by others so he can take his time. But umm sitting there for 15 minutes without a server greeting us?! Thats ridiculous. Then when he finally came over it took him a very long time to bring us our drinks, which was just a water and an iced coffee and dont even get me started about when he finally came over to take our orders for food! /:The service is terrible but I give them props on their food. I ordered the Peruvian stir fry with filet mignon and it was very good! Good serving size and alot of meat. My bf is a vegetarian and he ordered a veggie burger which he wasnt too fond of but thats just personal preference. I definitely will not go out of my way again to come and dine here, its not worth it.Also, I took a video of my food for snapchat but google only allows pictures so sorry about that. But hope this review helped! :-)
Sushi Tri
333 Enfrente Rd, Novato, CA 94949, United States
The sushi & food at this place is exceptional!I am an asian lady so I know my sushi. Currently, I am residing in Colorado and when I work in California, I make the long drive to this sushi restaurant. The sushi quality always exceeds expectations. The owner is a caring gentleman who made sure that Matts birthday celebration was done right. The owner also provided a complimentary large dessert plate with ice cream and mochi. Between the quality sushi & food and the caring atmosphere, Sushi Tri is a must every time we are in the area.FYI - their outside patio eating area is beautifully decorated & has a roof to protect you from the sun & rain. They accept dine in now.
La Maison De La Reine
807 Grant Ave, Novato, CA 94945, United States
A nice addition to the local cuisine scene.Let me start by saying this is more like a Vietnamese/Chinese Fusion spot. But its still good! The Food:Overall, I liked it! I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken (which I was surprised finding something like this at a Vietnamese place). I was a little suspect but it was lovely! The vegetables were fresh and not overcooked but also not undercooked, the sauce was not overpowering and complimented the flavors & textures of the dish. Of course the celery and peanuts added the crunch that you like to have to offset the beef and chicken (It was a combo plate). That with a side of rice and and an Elysian Space Dust made the dining experience really enjoyable. My wife got the Beef Pho...because Pho. She liked it but she made a comment that it was a little heavy on the cinnamon in the broth. I found that a little interesting. My daughter had the same but kids size and she doesnt care as long as theres noodles involved lol. Again, because Pho.Ambiance:The location used to be a druid hall and its in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Novato. However the new owners really cleaned up thee place. It is narrow and deep layout so lots of booths on one side of the entry/mid section and more seating in the rear. If your in the front/mid area you will be right next to the kitchen. My family and I dont mind the noise and activity because were all foodies. If you are sensitive to that kind of stuff maybe the back is more your jam.Service:Very attentive. We had 3 servers and they were ON IT!!! I think we ordered and I only had 2 sips of my beer before my plate showed up. Of course the plates coming out were staggered but I didnt mind and the differential between plates coming out wasnt bad.Location:It is downtown Novato so expect terrible parking at times. However as stated above, I think its a great addition to the local community. In closing, Im glad La Maison De La Riene is here. Some of the local asian cuisine isnt great. In the downtown area you have great options next door for Thai, Sushi and Indian. Other than that, other offerings are lacking and I think this will fill a void nicely.Give it a shot and let me know what YOU think!
Rustic Bakery
1407 Grant Ave, Novato, CA 94945, United States
Rustic Bakery, PLEASE answer your phone.Calling them with no answer has been a problem Ive experienced for years now, and I see from other reviews that I am not alone in this frustration.I am a nurse and my breaks are few and far between, so this past Friday when I found a miraculous sliver of time that I could quickly run over to grab a salad and bring it back to work, I decided to treat myself (also being aware to order directly from the restaurant these days to help them avoid a cut in their profit from DoorDash). I placed an online order and arrived at my designated pick-up time. Not only did I stand around waiting 12 extra minutes after the promised time, my order was missing the extra avocado ($2.95) and dressing ($1.50) of which Id ordered and paid. (Word to the wise, always double check that your order is correct before leaving the bakery.) And because I was now in an anxious rush to return to work (due to the lateness of my order), I left quickly, without checking inside my bag. The ChowNow app does not have an option to dispute an order, so I called later to follow up about a refund for the missing items, no answer. And no answer the following day. And so on. A critical Yelp review is now my best option for communicating with management. I am well aware the pandemic has put a strain on the service industry, but the phone answering issue has been going on for years before COVID. Please help your time-sensitive customers out here, Rustic. Im going to be taking a long hiatus from to go orders, its not worth it to me any more.
Sushi Holic
112 Vintage Way, Novato, CA 94945, United States
Honestly, I was skeptical of the food quality and authenticity because of the name. Gave it a chance because a friend recommended this place, and glad we did.Great service and food! Ordered the fried eggplant appetizer, rainbow roll, and salmon sashimi meal to share with my partner. A lady who worked there went around making sure every customer was satisfied with their food/experience. She even brought us an extra bowl of rice (on the house) when she noticed we were sharing the bowl of rice that came with the meal! First time Ive seen a restaurant in the bay area give out free rice! (Rice is included with non-noodle entrees at Asian restaurants where Im from-- its ridiculous that its custom to buy individual bowls of rice here!)We will be back again for another sushi date!
