Lotus Restaurant

Very Casual restaurant that serves Vietnamese and Chinese food. Not upscale even though its in menlo park.
Yum Cha Palace
1039 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
Decent Chinese restaurant a la carte dim sum. There are many dim sum restaurants in the Bay Area and this one is straight down the middle. Not so special, but not so bad. And considering it is in downtown Menlo Park, prices arent too bad either. In general, all the food was on the bland side and not memorable. Lots of seats, low wait times, and decent food. Staff is quite friendly as well.
FEY Restaurant
1368 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
Very nice decorations. Good menu. Nice people. One would like to enjoy the food far more. The menu is scattered over many chinese regions, and I cant tell where the chef is from. The szechuan dishes dont have the bright flavors of that region, and very few peppercorns. In my last visit, the wontons fell apart, very poortly made. The tastes are never as vibrant and precise as this kind of food should be. There are a number of better chinese restaurants, such as Crouching Tiger in RWC, Chef Zhao in Palo Alto ( or the other Zhao in Mt View, bother are better ), or Da Sichuan in PA or the Burmese restaurants in Palo Alto. It is true that for specifically Menlo Park this is the most plausible Chinese restaurant, but the others I mention are only an extra 5 minute drive, or closer, depending on where you are. I am always so disappointed because the restaurant looks and feels good - why cant they upgrade the food a little? This place has a lot of native chinese visitors and feels very chinese, but the food is simply short of the mark.
Shiok Singapore Kitchen
1137 Chestnut St, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
Food was good. Service was terrible.I was excited to try out laksa that my friend had recommended, but my excitement died immediately when I came to pick up my order. The one and only waitress that was on shift was rude and impolite to say the least. I came to pick up during my work hours and was tight on my schedule. I came just on time to pick up my order only to have her treat me very rudely. She told me I had to wait FIVE minutes when I came just ONE minute before the scheduled pickup time and in a manner that was condescending. When I received the app notification on my pickup a minute later (i.e., exactly on time), she gave me the order from the kitchen and said not a single word (like “here you go”). And even when I was leaving, she did not say a single thank you or goodbye. Yes, I get that she was the only person on the shift. I've been there myself and know how it goes. I myself have worked in the hospitality industry before, and this is absolutely not how one treats customers, regardless of whether the staff is stretched thin. This was my first time visiting the restaurant, and it's a shame it left such unpleasant memories in just less than five minutes. If this is how I get treated for what was supposed to be a simple pickup, I can't imagine staying there longer, like to dine in. I doubt I will come back.

Su Hong to Go is a long-time Menlo Park mainstay and favorite spot of mine for lunch The Chinese Chicken Salad is one of my favorites.Call 10 minutes ahead and pick up when you arrive. There are a few tables to eat in - nothing fancy - but mostly this is a take out/home restaurant.
The Mandarin
1029 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
One of the top quality Chinese restaurants in the area including Menlo Park. Very fresh ingredients, reasonable prices, good service and nice staff. Highly recommend to all the businesses and individuals to check this place out. I don’t see that many people when I come here and I believe as compared to most other restaurants they are very neat. Give it a shot.

The Guild Theatre

Wow!I almost hate to share this because this momentarily hardly known music venue will undoubtedly explode with fans of live music. It is awesome!First, the total transformation of the former Guild movie theater into this music/performance space is absolutely beautiful! What a great job they did!Secondly, but even more importantly...the sound/acoustics. OMG! Totally excellent! One of the best sounding music venues anywhere!!!I have been to two shows in the span of three days during the first week of its opening, with completely different bands, different instruments, different musical dynamics, and the sound has been absolutely fantastic.Maybe there is a magician doing the sound mix at this place...if so, please keep that person in place!...but I have to think that the architectural acoustics and the sound system were simply done right! Amazing! It is a small space, a split level (yay!) main floor that is usually going not going to have any seating...just room to get close and dance...and an upper mezzanine level with a small number of seats for reserved sitting.I will surely become a fixture at this place. Feel free to say hi when you see me there up front!--July 2022--Seven shows later and this place continues to amaze. The only thing that has changed is that The Guild has gained awareness among lovers of live music and shows are more crowded than they routinely were just 2-3 months ago. More shows are selling out. So if interested in possibly attending a show, just go ahead and get the tickets, you wont be let down!
Penzeys Spices
771 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
Rude and arrogant service - I ordered spices from their online store. Unfortunately the quantities I received were not what I had ordered (3 bottles of Chili Spices when I ordered only one). I called this store which is 25 miles away to ask about their return policy and explained politely the situation. Surprisingly the shop person did not know the policy and had to call corporate headquarters. 10 minutes later, I received a call back and was told that if I returned the items to a store, all I could expect was a store credit or exchange. I said fine and told her that it would take me 30 minutes to get to the location but that I expected to arrive before their 3pm closing time. On the way, I experienced a thunderstorm. Realizing that I may not make the 3pm time, I called to alert them of the situation. The shop person responded in a haughty manner reminiscent of a 19th century schoolmarm indicating that if I did not arrive by 3pm, they would not let me in. I was surprised by this doctrinarian response considering that I was trying to solve an error caused by the company, that I had to drive 50 miles round-trip in the pouring rain, and that I was delayed by 10 minutes in my departure because the shop person did not know the return policy. Adding insult to injury, she added with all the arrogance she could muster that I could come back the following day when they opened at 10am. I arrived exactly at 3:03pm and the door was closed. The shop persons could see me outside as they tended to other customers but they refused to open the door. This sort of rigidity in a customer service person is the death knell for any business. It will a long time before I go back to this location.
Burma Love - Menlo Park
1302 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
I was very happy to have discovered Burma Love on Yelp. I needed to find a place for a group that was having an event in Menlo Park and this jumped out as a new restaurant with a cuisine that is not your typical fare. And its reviews for its other locations were quite good. When you walk into Burma Love you immediately notice how well-decorated it is. Our table was already set up for us which was a nice change from some restaurants who treat reservations more like waiting lists. The table was very a nice long wooden table and the chairs were quite comfortable. Even the drinking glasses got compliments from the group. ?One thing that is interesting about Burmese food is that since most people arent familiar with Burmese cuisine including me we end up comparing it to what we expect from the cuisines we know. This led to some disappointment from people in the party when expectations werent met.The party was mixed between giving this a restaurant a three or four star reviews. The three star reviews were because either they thought the taste was nothing special, the prices were a bit too high or the portions were too small. Some people did not even like how the plates were small.I personally enjoyed the milk tea and roti appetizer, thought the tea leaf salad was bit underwhelming, found the eggplant side to be a bit too salty and too close to Panda Express ?, but really liked the cauliflower and trumpet mushroom side ?. I thought the presentation and service and ambience were excellent which is why I am giving this restaurant 4 stars.
Galata Bistro Mediterranean Grill
827 Santa Cruz Ave #4609, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States
Came here on a Saturday for lunch. Plenty of tables available so we sat inside. The decor was simple, clean and homey and nondescript. I will say flat out that the food was some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had.The first item was complimentary bread and olive oil. The bread was nice and fresh, soft and warm. A really nice starter. For appetizers, we had the dolmas and the baba ganoush. The dolmas in particular were SO good. The baba ganoush had a nice slightly smoky taste which, when paired with the warm pita bread, was like comfort food. For main dishes we had the ribeye wrap+side salad and the salmon wrap+fries. The ribeye in particular was amazing. Cooked perfectly and lots of flavor. The salmon wrap I felt was not as good but still excellent, cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. The prices were moderate, bordering on the pricey side but so worth it. Everything tasted insanely good and fresh. As we walked out the door after eating I was already thinking about when I'd come back for dinner to try more great food.
