Monterey Palace Restaurant
1001 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755, United States
My co-workers and I met here for dim sum this past weekend. Monterey Palace is one of his favorite places for dim sum in SGV.I was running late. By the time I got there they already ordered a number of dishes. My co-worker and his wife frequent this place so I left everything to them. They ordered the usual stuff and a few that Ive never tried before. One of my favorite is the rice noodle cake stuffed with fried chinese donut and fish cake. Texture and flavor were spot on.The service seemed normal for Chinese restaurants. Servers had a tad of an attitude when we asked for extra waters.Parking is bad. Youre probably better off finding street parking.
NBC Seafood Restaurant
404 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Last time I had a Chinese Mandarin & Cantonese food for lunch. My parents give it to me for lunch takeout. It was so delicious & real taste. So satisfying. Although I’ve never been there before. However there is so my Asians,Hispanic & American people visiting to NBC Seafood Restaurant at Monterey Park, Atlantic Blvd around 11:00am gets crowded. There is no doubt we’re going there on Mother’s Day early at 10:30am no wait of which is Su May 12. Waiting for the line is too long after 11:00am on weekends. Can’t wait to go. I’m looking forward to it.
Duck House Restaurant
501 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Any old hand at the greater Los Angeles food scene should know by now that Monterey Park is a gold mine of the finest Chinese food outside of China, to the point where I had often thought I could charge off in a random direction and find a gem hidden within. Ive only tried this once seriously, and it was then I found this gem. When I passed by Duck House Restaurant, I was merely a curious bystander. Having dined there, Im a convert to this - one of the most underrated Chinese fine dining experiences in the city, if not the country. The pitch for Duck House is as follows: Go out for a big event or celebration, and experience an exemplary preparation of the famous Chinese roast duck, at a restaurant with a lovely aesthetic, that has been frequented by the likes of the late Chadwick Bozeman and the legendary James Hong. Yet, when I looked up Duck House after passing it on the street, I hesitated because of two things; the price of the dishes, and a handful of low reviews, particularly on Yelp.It is true that duck house is no impromptu excursion if you want to sample the titular duck. But if you want to experience the restaurant at a reasonable price, you absolutely can. The green onion pancake is a ridiculously low $6, and balances the oily crisp of the edges with a soft gooey interior. The lunch specials are quite varied, coming in at 12 to $14 per dish, well in line with other similar restaurants. While my group did not attend during lunch, we ordered many of the dishes which would have been on that menu, including three different tofu dishes, all unique and tasty in different ways (though the group as a whole settled on the three cups tofu as the favorite) and an eggplant dish so good, it converted someone who had never liked eggplant before. As to the reviews, from what I could see, there were two complaints: the service was bad, and the duck wasnt good. For us, the service was tremendously accommodating and friendly. When calling ahead to ask whether they could accommodate a vegan member of our party, they both confirmed that they could, and even guided me through the process of reserving, and made sure to let me know to reserve the duck ahead of time. When we were there, they would readily answer questions, be quick to replenish food and tea, even provided complimentary gelatin treats for the birthday, something we didnt ask for, and were not charged for, and seemed to enjoy their work, and for any concerned, were perfectly fluent in English. But youre not here to hear about the staff. You may not even be here to hear about the prices. You want to know about the duck.To anyone unfamiliar with the famous Chinese roast duck, it is certainly a classy dish, typically ordered at banquets, and meant to serve several people. It is usually served in two parts: The meat and skin on one plate, and accoutrements on the other. The idea is to take a provided wrapping, and put in the duck, some green onions, and some hoisin savory sauce and assemble it, burrito-like, to consume. Its always quite the treat, but of the dozens of ducks Ive had over the years, this one may be the best.Unlike many restaurants, Duck House separates the skins of the duck from the meat. Duckskin is always a resplendently crispy and savory part of a meal, sometimes a little bit too rich for some, and the separation gives you the option of taking more less of it. When you do taste it, its very well balanced, abounding with flavor without being too oily. Duck meat can sometimes be inconsistent or chewy, but the thin slices here are a joy to eat, and the green onions and cucumbers balance out the meal effortlessly. From those of us who had been eating duck for years, to people who had never tried it before, our entire party of nine left satisfied and impressed. I truly have no idea what the negative reviews of this place are talking about when it comes to the duck.So if you have an occasion worth celebrating, dont duck out on your responsibilities; Make a detour to the duck house - theyre serving duck, but clearly laying golden eggs.
New Lucky Seafood Restaurant
415 W Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Good food and exceptional service, as being one of the more busier restaurants in Monterey Park. I always come here whenever we have a special occasion because of the easier reservations of tables ( if you speak Cantonese.) The lobster and geoduck specials are here year-round, which is a plus. On weekdays, it doesn’t have too much people, but on weekends ( especially on Chinese holidays), the place is a chaotic mess. however, they do try to seat you calmly.
Happy Family Restaurant
500 N Atlantic Blvd #171, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
We didnt catch on immediately after seating that the menu is on QR code. Although it was after 1:30PM, there were enough new arrivals that kept the sole waitress busy. The venue has a robotic server to help. The food arrived promptly after ordering. In comparison with other Chinese vegetarian restaurants, this one is much more generous with oil and seasoning for my taste. It is my personal preference to have less oil and seasoning, but if that fits your own taste, this is a good alternative. Portions and prices are in line with most Chinese restaurants.
Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant
964 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755, United States
I love this restaurant and strongly recommend it. It was just at the same plaza at my accountants office which reports my tax every year. Once I go to that office, I will have lunch at this restaurant. That is once a year. This is a Vietnamese Chinese restaurant, mostly Chinese.I like the noodle soup there, so many things inside. Fresh pork kidney, roasted duck pieces, shrimp, fish ball, thin pork slices, grounded pork, and golden deep-fried garlic. The broth is umami and obviously isnt from MSG.The free sweet seaweed and green bean soup is also a very good expierence, I had never image the sweet seaweed before. Most clerks are senior and they dont speak English nor Mandarin, you have to point the menu to order. But doesnt matter, you still get good food and good service.
Tang Gong Seafood Restaurant
111 N Atlantic Blvd #350, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Recommended for dim sum yum cha but price per dish was a bit higher than other dim sum places in the area, regardless of Small, Medium, or Large dim sums. Egg Tarts were well worth it with very crispy crusts and standard Shu Mai also good choices. AVOID Roasted Pork Belly with Macao Style. Menu states photos are for reference only and they really mean it with this order. Photo in menu looks like a generous plate with 20 pieces. The real dish had 12 and laid out in such a way to look somewhat scarce (one piece was eaten in photo). Its a small complaint but it was a premium dish so other restaurants (Monterey Palace) serve this better. If not for this incident, would have rated 4. Management kept insisting this was the order they serve and that of course its a little exaggerated as its a stock photo but despite the fine print, it felt misleading (other dishes we ordered with photo references matched quantity [egg tart]). Order swapped with a Beef Chow Fun which was good. This is a new restaurant and interior is very...grandiose (excessive gold theme borderlining tacky). One other complaint is the table set up. It felt uncomfortable that the tables and chairs were set such that people had knees touching table leg frames. Would have preferred if one of their morning setup checks was to make sure tables were organized so there was actual legroom underneath for customers. Would still remain on list of dim sum places to go but is middle pack.
Good Shine Kitchen Chinese Food
235 S Garfield Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley Area. The owner of the shop is really welcomed and warm-hearted to make sure we would order the correct food as well as would truly enjoy them. Not expensive but delicious of family kind Taiwanese restaurant. Ones might date back to the time of their own family made Chinese cuisine. Minced Meat rice and the fried pop chicken are their famous dishes. Must have a try. Remember that the store is cash only, might be busy on Friday/Saturday night as not too many tables there.Restricted open time plz do check the status before paying a visit.
Ocean Island Restaurant
421 N Atlantic Blvd #101, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
This is the worst Chinese restaurant Ive ever been to. We had to wait 30 minutes to try to order food. And then was told to go back to the end of the line. So we left.
Mandarin Noodle House
701 W Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
There are so many chinese restaurants in Monterey park. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The kung Pow chicken was a soupy mess with no flavor. The chicken was boiled, not breaded and fried like the picture. The shredded pork soup had no pork in it and the handmade noodles were over cooked and clouded the broth when placed in the soup. Very disappointing. Also, everything was turned on it’s side when my girlfriend picked up the food. The mess they called kung psi spilled in the bag.
