Goshi Japanese Restaurant
570 Higuera St #155, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
San Luis Obispo has at least 8 sushi restaurants just going from a count in my head, probably more. Goshis is without a doubt the most delicious and authentic (many are also lovely). Authenticity does not mean snootiness or a lack of options however, they have the same Japanese staples most sushi places do, along with a huge selection of more uncommon and unique ingredients like uni, natto, otoro and chu toro. You can also have an amazing omakase experience that the less expensive sushi restaurants just dont offer. The otoro combo is worth every penny (you get some pieces of the trimmed chu toro with it) and the crab and asparagus roll is sooo perfect. There will be a wait most nights, 15 to 45 minutes, but its so so worth it and with the creamery growing its easier than ever to wait until they message you. Please please please go here.

Just passing by in a road trip. It felt like a fast-food japanese restaurant. I would not make the list of my regularly visited restaurants. Though, it seemed to have quite enough clients. Food was OK not great.

Edit: 2/8/19 Went back with high hopes. Family dinner before a big night out. Get seated, order drinks. Drinks come and we order food. Same general thing we have ordered as a family on the last 10-15 times coming to this restaurant. Out of tofu... Okay, no biggie. Waiter even suggests rather than the Red Fox roll that I usually order I should get something comparable from the 50% off yellow menu. Okay, Im game.Food comes, quick service. 4 orders of salmon nigiri instead of the 2 that my daughter always orders, it is literally what she eats every time we go out to sushi. Waiter says okay maybe we can give you a discount. I say no, we ordered 2 and only want 2. He leaves the order of 4 on the table. We carry on with our dinner everything tastes fresh and wonderful my daughter eats 2 orders of salmon sushi. The manager comes over and says he wants to talk to us to figure out where the miscommunication took place. He tells us that an order of salmon nigiri is 2 pieces, a fact of which we are well aware after eating sushi for the last 30 years. He says the server is new and he is working to help the server improve, he says he encourages the server to read back the order before he leaves the table, my wife and I both say he did not. The manager says he can give us a discount on the salmon and I shake my head. I reiterate that we ordered 2 will pay for 2 and only ate 2. He takes the extra two to the back.Very frustrating experience due to the manager, not the server. The manager claims to have restaurant experience but not sushi experience. I think good customer service transcends the genre and the novelty of ones experience is never an excuse. Please dont question a customers word, had we mis-ordered we would have paid for the mistake. I only expect the same courtesy from you.Final Verdict: We will drive to the other side of town to avoid Sushiya and the management. Food has not generally been an issue, but the management and personnel is at all times, at least these days, questionable at best.

Yanagi Sushi

Im thinking weve been spoiled to really good sushi at other locations, specifically at Toshi 2.0 in Atascadero. On this day, we were in SLO and only had an hour available for lunch, so we figured we we try a new place instead of driving all the way north. This place did not have flavors that popped out at you as we were expecting from sushi. Normally, when we eat sushi, we as a family are snatching up every piece we can eat and devouring it because it is so delicious. At this place, we were trying to eat it just not to leave it behind. We ordered 2 special rolls and fried rice. The flavor was just kind of blah, lije supermarket sushi. I was really surprised to see that there were several of these branded locations in California. I dont intend to leave a poor review, as there was nothing wrong with the service, I just wouldnt go back as I did not find the flavor of the food snappy, fresh and flavorful. Maybe it was an off day, but I dont think so. My money, my choice. Im not willing to give it a second try.

Kumi ko Japanese Restaurant has good quality of sushi’s and delicious begin-fried rice.I am Japanese-American, lives there and here both countries. It is real. The atmosphere of the restaurant, the ornaments in the restaurant are real from Japan, sushi chefs wear real Japanese chef costume and hat, and their work are visible from 120 degree angle.Look at the picture I attached, I ordered “Chirashi bowl” that has several different row fishes on the top of sushi rice. It was delicious. My wife liked California roll and she ordered vegi-fried rice. It was also delicious and the volume is also big that you can share with others while you are enjoying your sushi. I am full and happy to went there. Thanks, Kumi Ko!

When you go to a Japanese restaurant and it is filled with Asians, you know that you have come to the right place. The food was great, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the price was right.

201 Kitchen SLO

Nice little Japanese food restaurant, no lunch specials or bento box. The variety of a bento box would have been nice. Ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura and what was plated was a extremely large piece of broccoli and two smaller pieces as well as two onion rings, thats it, no fried carrots or sweet potato, very disappointed in the veggies as it was actually just broccoli. Steamed buns were just ok, nothing spectacular there, gyoza was decent, white dragon or whatever the roll was called was good, as well as the hot tea. Service was ok, you order then sit and wait. Would come again for the sushi. Not the other items.

EDIT: This is a good hotel as long as you dont encounter any issues. The first half of my 2 week stay here was really good.5 am: This morning at 5 am I woke up to loud noise and vibration coming from the roof that shook my windows. I called the front desk and was told the maintenance person would be here in an hour to take a look. They told me they would call me and let me know if there problem was fixed.5:30 pm: I arrived at the hotel and spoke with someone at the front desk. She had no information about the issue and couldnt get a hold of the maintenance person. Again I was told someone would call me with an update.8 pm: Again nobody called so I called the front desk. First they told me the maintenance person couldnt find anything wrong with the AC/heater. Well come back to this point later on. They offered to switch my room and I agreed. Without any offer of help, I moved all my stuff from the first room to the new room. My stay was for 2 weeks so I had a lot of things to move.8:30 pm: After I moved everything, I opened the closet to find the hanger bar at my waist level. There was no room to hang dress pants without touching the floor. Also, there was no iron or ironing board. I was really irritated and went down to the front desk again. The person who had changed my room said she didnt think it was a big deal. Maybe not to her, but I doubt she wears dress pants. I asked to speak with the manager and explained my frustrations. This time I was told the maintenance man was unable to test the AC/heater because they couldnt get a hold of the person in the next room to get their permission. First they said there was no issue and then they said they were unable to test the system. At this time I realized this was a waste of my time. The person I need to speak with is the actual hotel manager, not the night crew manager.ORIGINAL:This is a really nice hotel with friendly staff. Its well maintained and clean. They have free breakfast and beer and wine from 5 to 7. There is nice creek right next to the hotel.

Came here with a party of three for lunch when we were in town. It was just over twenty dollars for two meals and a soup á la carte. Very affordable!Pesto & Sun-dried Tomato Chicken SandwichI had this and I loved it. It was filling, but not in the Monty Python/Mr. Creosote way. Served on house-made focaccia bread, which was very tender and toothsome. It gave the sandwich a great chew. The sun-dried tomatoes were mild, but they added tartness and tang to a sandwich which would otherwise be overwhelmed by the garlic and basil in the pesto. Plenty of chicken and cheese on the sandwich. It came with a house salad, dressed in oil and balsamic vinegar over fresh greens. It was an incredibly healthy meal, all things considered. I would usually reserve this level of enjoyment for things that are conspicuously dire for my constitution and waistline, like cinnamon rolls or ice cream sundaes.Miso Salmon SaladThis was everyone's favorite. My wife described it as ‘bright,' like a shining star or precocious child. I think she meant it was glorious and radiant, like an angel. The dressing was delicious, so good that after she had poured it in the salad, I used my sandwich to scoop the remnants out of the plastic cup it came in. My wife loved the bits of mango and the amount of salmon. She and her mom were huge fans of the edamame, though she preferred the Armenian cucumber for the crunch. Overall, an excellent summer salad.Cafe SaladMy mother-in-law has this, though she was hesitant about the goat cheese. We usually go in for Gorgonzola or another stinky cheese. Compared to these, the goat cheese was very mild. She picked out the pear, but I thought it was tolerably good with the balsamic vinaigrette. (I let nothing go to waste!) There were loads of pecans and slices of avocado. She did say that the dressing was very tangy, so she recommended starting with half dressing, as it could be off-puttingly pungent, especially if on a first date.Sausage and Kale SoupI ordered a cup of soup because I was hungry and I tend to overdo it when in this state. I enjoyed the soup, which was savory with nice peppery bite. It was lovely with the bread and reminded me most of the zuppa tuscana soup at Olive Garden.Overall, I lovely place for lunch and we definitely recommend the summer menu!
