We love the table service area, ordering sushi, tempura and dishes like teriyaki and the grilled yellowtail collar. Yum! My favorite Japanese restaurant in Ventura County, for certain!

Came in yesterday evening expecting nothing less than the very best that I normally have experienced at this restaurant. However last night was a not so pleasant experience. Our waitress “Ayumi” was pretty rude overall. She took our order and never came back to our table to see how we were doing. She completely ignored us and had a rbf expression on her face every time she looked in our direction. I wound up speaking to the owner who apologized for the rudeness of Ayumi. He was gracious and offered to comp our next visit. I respectfully declined a free meal. I let him know that I appreciate the gesture but it would be much better to retrain his rude employee as having people work for you that are rude can be harmful to a business! You can lose a good customer as well as many future referrals. Employees and the expressions they wear can make or break an experience that people have in your restaurant. Ayumi, you really should do better! I still would come back again and hopefully it will be a better experience than tonight. The food is still very good and the rest of the staff seem pleasant.

This is one of my go-to Japanese restaurants. One of my overall favorite places in Ventura County. The staff are super friendly and interactive. The food is really good. They have a special menu which changes every day. It can be a little on the pricey side but definitely a place worth checking out.

Sumo Japanese Restaurant is one of my go to sushi places when Im in Ventura. The food is really good here. Ive eaten here in the restaurant as well as taken my order to go. Usually if I get it to go Ill call before and pick up when they tell me it should be ready.I always eat at the bar since Im usually here alone so the rolls are made fairly quickly.I love their Albacore Lover roll here (or any roll with albacore in it). Sometimes Ill get their combination bento boxes that come with a bunch of different choices such as teriyaki chicken/steak and a bunch of other options. It comes with salad and a miso soup.One of my favorite dishes is the salmon collar that they have on their HH menu, but now Ill order it even if its not HH. Watch out for those large bones but the way its cooked its really good.

Great little Japanese restaurant. Been here twice and will certainly come again. Their special rolls are good and their chiraishi bowls are pretty good too! Service is good but slow. However, I understand since both times there was only one server.

You know how you are greeted with Irrasshai! when you enter a Japanese restaurant. This place has the attitude of the total opposite. We entered the door and were looking at the back of the waiter behind the greeting counter. Without looking at us, she departed. Another one came in just to enter something on the computer screen - her back to us all the time. After two minutes I was able to catch a waiter. He asked for my name and told us the table would be ready in five minutes. Fifteen minutes later, the pair ahead of use still waiting to be seated, we left. A whole section of the restaurant, with at least five tables for two, was empty all this time.I dont care what kind of food they serve, with this attitude and this service they are not going to see me again.

Mon is a small and intimate Japanese restaurant consisting of a sushi bar and only about 5 tables. I was always told that you will find good sushi at small Japanese restaurants like this, and Mon is no exception. The sushi I had was fresh and delicious. They also have a really great value in their combinations because they come with a lot of food for a pretty fair price. The service was great and I highly recommend coming here.

Most unique menu ive seen at a japanese restaurant. live oysters, sea urchin in shell, pork belly skewers, steamed clams with sake butter, etc. very cool ambiance; fun but not corny. great quality fish. a definite spot to watch.
