Tatsu Sushi
1837 Ygnacio Valley Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94598, United States
Went to have lunch today with good friends who highly recommended this Japanese restaurant. We ordered from the lunch special menu, and also tried the Dragon roll and California roll. Lunch special came with miso soup, green salad, white rice, and wide choice of entrees. We ordered the pork katsu, teriyaki beef, and teriyaki salmon. All lunch selections were excellent with large portions. Additional bonus for our order over $35 was a complementary order of goyza! We will definitely be back to sample other rolls, and lunch selections!

Ramen Hiroshi
1633 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, United States
I had high expectations as Ramen Hiroshi is the closest authentic ramen shop I could find in East Bay without having to drive into South Bay or Berkeley. Lets start with the positives first. The two pieces of kara age that came with the ramen were garlicky and fried to perfection. However, you do need to get here around 11:15 to get them hot - after 11:30, theyve probably been sitting in a metal tray and will come out cold. I ordered the namesake ramen. The chashu was superb, with a perfect balance of fattiness and marinated flavors. The toppings and tonkotsu soup were good, but the soup was not hot enough. I recommend a spoonful of their chili paste for an added kick. When I test various ramen shops, toppings that are not of the best quality or soup that isnt great can be forgiven, but here, they committed the cardinal sin: the noodles were subpar. It drives me crazy when ramen shops use noodles that have the texture of spaghetti. Here, its actually worse - the somen-like texture made me do something I never do - leave a bunch of noodles unfinished. If you dont mind soft thin noodles or if you havent had real Hakata ramen in Kyushu, you can try this shop. But for me, overall, I actually prefer the non-authentic ramen I had in Castro Valley yesterday (Shumi Ramen). Maybe one day, Ill come back to try their TanTan men (which should have thick noodles, but will lose the chashu for ground pork). There are two hour city parking spaces in the area for $1/30 minutes.7/23/17 Update: if you go on a weekday (less crowded, kara-age included with lunch ramen) and order their thick noodles, this place warrants 4.5 stars. Using Ippudo (一風堂) as the reference Hakata ramen, the regular noodles here are too soft/not starchy enough. Hiroshis thick noodles (like regular noodles elsewhere) have better consistency.8/10/17 Update: their Tan Tan men (担々麺) was excellent, with just two faults: not enough soup and noodles not thick enough. Even when I asked them to cook the noodles harder with their thicker noodles, it still wasnt quite right. Otherwise, the ground pork, the sesame, and the thick, orange soup were just right.9/12/17 Update: Had their Tan Tan Men and the Hiroshi Hakata Ramen. For the Hiroshi, Im glad to report that they have switched out their noodles to the correct consistency! Also, even though I arrived around 1PM, the kara-age was made fresh - perhaps the notice from the Contra Costa health department posted (cited for cleanliness, food temperature) had some effect. Unfortunately, they left the door open and there were flies coming in and out - no fun swatting flies while trying to down ramen. The Tan Tan Men noodles were overcooked. Overall, the Hiroshi Hakata Ramen is worth getting for a weekday lunch (includes the kara age), if you sit closer inside and avoid the flies. 8^P

House of Sake
313 N Civic Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, United States
The House of Sake is tied with a lesser known spot on the Monterey Peninsula as my fave places to eat in the world EVER! And its even actually gotten better with their spicy edamame! If you get one item there it has to be the Godzilla Roll which I usually pair with a seaweed salad, edamame and orders of Maguro & Unagi Nigiri. If I can eat more Ill order more Nigiri or their delicious Tempura. Of course those are always accompanied by a large hot Sake & a large Sapporo. So Yum! As is the cucumber & crab salad that automatically comes before the meal & the pineapple & plum wine that comes after. This IS really THE place to go in Walnut Creek for sushi even though its not exactly downtown, off the beaten path & next to a 711! Its a bit locals place!I didnt know I loved sushi until I went there 24 years ago. I learned to use chopsticks there that day. Since Ive had many of my most memorable times at the House of Saki - theres a perfect area in the back for bday parties and once my bff (RIP Kritter) & I got the bottle of plum wine at the end of the night and ended up tossing a foot all around with some of the staff in the parking lot after hours then walked to my condo down the street.I lived in WC for 37 years and have since been to other sushis places (obv) but of those 37 years Ive been a very frequent patron of this place for 24 of those years. I even went there on my first official first date with my husband. Its a special place for many people & the food is just as special.

Hasumi Sushi
3116 Oak Rd Ste A, Walnut Creek, CA 94597, United States
A good place. Comfortable, straight forward. Traditional Japanese restaurant without any frills. Place to take a friend, family or date. Since the closure of Miraku in Walnut Creek, Ive been looking for a replacement. This place is it.

ManSun Japanese Restaurant
21190 Golden Springs Dr, Walnut, CA 91789, United States
It is funny. A Japanese restaurant but serve you Korean kimchi. A restaurant that doesn’t have sea urchin then tell you roe is the same thing. A restaurant that the waitress barely speaks English. Not a real Japanese restaurant and people don’t know what they are talking about. Good luck.

Oishi japanese restaurant
2894 Ygnacio Valley Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94598, United States
Although it stated as Japanese restaurant its actually is a Thai restaurant serving many different kind of Thai food. One particular entree that I would not order again was a Lamb rack dish cooked with curry. The lamb meats had no taste with little meat. It was disappointing. But my other orders were quite good. I liked their salmon eggroll dipped with Thai sweet sauce.

Domo Sushi & Roll
1375 N Grand Ave, Walnut, CA 91789, United States
Small family-owned and run Japanese restaurant across the street from Mt. SAC College. Plate meals are very reasonable, good deal for students. Sushi is more expensive, although not unreasonable. They use wild-caught salmon for the sushi. Very unusual, premium stuff! Great service.

Mazesoba Hero
1247 N Grand Ave, Walnut, CA 91789, United States
This place is good! I have previously only tried this style of noodle from Menya in Arcadia, and not sure if this is just a new style to enjoy ramen noodles. If you are a eggs Benedict lover, or someone that loves runny eggs, having this addition to a noodle bursting with flavor is delicious. I have visited twice, and have had a great experience with the friendly staff. The place is right across from Mt. Sac, it isn't the biggest place so if you are looking for 8+ this wouldn't be the spot. The place looks modern and clean.FoodThe two times that I came, I gave the Champion Mazesoba a try. It is so good with the runny egg plus additional two soft boiled eggs and the cha-Siu. I'm glad I gave spicy a try as the first time I got it with no spicy. The first time I also tried the Crown Mazesoba. It was also quite good if you like Karage, that is fried and sweet.I will definitely plan another trip sometime in the near future again. The good thing is that you also do not have to drive far into Orange County, or 626 area to get this, as it is right in Walnut. Until next time!

Papasan Rolls and Bowls

Best family own Japanese restaurant in Fremont. I am definitely their frequent customer. Just plan to go early on Friday and Saturday, it is usually packed. I really like their softshell crab, Chirashi and Ramen.

Oyama Sushi
1521 N Main St, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, United States
I have two very different reviews for this place. My first is 4.5 stars, but that applies only to Doordash orders. The sushi is great, it really is. But today Im giving 1 stars for the *in-person* experience. Me and my family (4) were seated at 7. (Half of) our food came at 9. It is now 9:25 and the last 2 rolls *just* came out...20 minutes before closing. Up until tonight Ive really loved this place and didnt expect this. To say service was slow is an understatement and yet we were still charged 18% service fee when we got little service aside from *occasional* water re-fills. A huge topic of our tables discussion was how awfully long it was taking to get our food, and to me thats not right. That a major topic of talking was about poor service and how long items are taking to come out says a lot. 3 other parties walked out without getting food before we got our food and 2 parties right around us were getting visibly frustrated. Ive loved this place in the past, but before tonight Id also only ordered through Doordash. It disappoints me to actually recommend you dont come here *in person*. By all means order through a food shuttle service like Doordash, just dont come here in person.
