Bonchon Mountain view

Who thought Korean and fried chicken was a good idea? If orange chicken still has some Chinese as in American Chinese, I cannot find a shred of Korean in Korean fried chicken. But style or authenticity is not at question. It is the taste that breaks the deal.Looking at the display sheet on the window and the bar-set interior, I already knew that this was a Korean fusion kind of deal, a gen-Y hangout place, i.e., not a family eatery. (With which region this is fusing is unclear.) But my daughter is presently infatuated with everything Korean. It was a bit crowded dinner time, so we settled at the bar. I ordered a salmon avocado ball mainly based on ingredient list. It is a sheet of salmon wrapped over some other ingredients (nothing particularly Korean). The dish looks more baked than fried. The sauce is cheesy and sweet; there is certainly added sugar in the internal materials, too. Overall, the only good thing about the dish is presentation. My daughters fate was worse. She thought her tteokbokki was a traditional dish, as delightfully described on the menu. But the whole thing was so sugary that she didnt finish half of it. Needless to say, this has ruined her hope of getting anything Korean out of this place. (And engrained a fear of Asian fusion for some foreseeable future.)If you want a downtown venue to hang out, drink some rice wine, and not having a meaningful conversation, the place is very clean, seating is more relaxed than in many Asian eateries. But if you want to have a meaningful meal that does not numb your taste buds with sweetness, or want to have any kind of Asian experience - or simply want a good meal, Bonchon is not a bon place.Oh, what is that about not having meaningful conversation? The absolutely absorptionless interior is so loud that you literally have to shout to the waiting staff who leans to within two feet (60 cm) of your mouth.
Amarin Thai Cuisine

Ordered take out for a Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and changed from Mango Chicken to Basil Chicken. The restaurant shows a menu where the chicken fried rice is $14.99 and told me so. But when I received the check on my take out the charge is for $18.99. The argument is that the pineapple in the pineapple fried rice warrants the extra $4. This is by far the most expensive fried rice dish for an average, non-high end restaurant who charges $4 for a few slices of pineapples and hides the item as a House Special Fried Rice on the bottom of the menu while the fried rice options costing $14.99 are featured in the middle of the menu. Moreover I changed my Mango chicken to a Basil Chicken. The basil chicken costs $1 less than the Mango chicken yet the restaurant refused to refund my $1 difference after my change order.I will not be returning to this restaurant due to their unfair practices. $19 fried rice costs more than most sushi rolls at nearby sushi restaurants in the area. $19 is basically an entree item at most places yet at Amarin Thai it buys only rice, very few chicken and pineapple. And no refunding for the $1 on the change order? I dont care if your customers are billionaires. The restaurant should refund the appropriate money back to customers unless the customers clearly waive this transaction.
Mizu Sushi Bar & Grill

I would like to start off by saying that I almost never post reviews but this was so ridiculous, that I feel obligated the write this. My husband and I went to this sushi place for dinner on date night. I am a big sushi fan but due to dietary restrictions, I always order the same thing. I order a cucumber and avocado roll and a salmon cucumber avocado roll. This time was no different.I asked for the Salmon roll but to please add cucumber and for a cucumber avocado roll and they said no problem. The food came and they didnt put the cucumber in the salmon avocado roll, so I asked them for the cucumber and they brought it to me on the side. The food was mediocre but edible. Ive had drastically better sushi in other place, but thats fine. The worst part was when the bill arrived. They charged me $10.50 for the salmon avocado roll (add cucumber) and $10 for the cucumber (add avocado) roll. I called the waiter over and asked him how could a roll that has salmon, avocado and cucumber be $10.50 but the same roll minus the salmon be $10? They also charged me $3 for adding the avocado (cucumber roll $7 plus $3 for avocado), which they didnt mention to me when I ordered it. When I told them about it and asked why is the additional avocado so expensive, they said that avocados are very expensive and that they go for a premium, hence the $3 charge. I said fine, then why dont you charge me for the avocado roll which is $8 and add cucumber to it so its cheaper. They said no no no, we cant do that because you said you want a cucumber avocado roll and not an avocado cucumber roll. I almost lost it at that point. Whats the difference, its the same two ingredients! So I asked if I had changed the order of the ingredients when ordering, would you have charged me less and they said yes!. I was shocked. When I told them how it makes no sense to charge me the same amount for a roll with fish and one without, they said thats just how it is. They wouldnt adjust the bill, they didnt apologize for not informing me there would be an extra charge and they wouldnt even admit that the way they charge for items makes no sense. Mind you, if I order from their website online, their extra charge for cucumber is $0.50 and for avocado is $1. I guess their premium avocados in the restaurant go for $3 but on their website its only $1. I have never experienced worst customer service in my life and to have the waiter argue with me about the fact that I said cucumber avocado instead of avocado cucumber is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Not only would I never go back there but I wouldnt recommend it for neither the food or the experience. Stay clear of this horrible restaurant!

A sushiritto is a burrito with a sushi filling. A wonderful concept since I often feel like the traditional sushi serving leaves me a tad bit hungry at the end. But wow, this place checked all the boxes. Fresh, delicious and large portions. We got the Salmon Samba and Sumo crunch. The sumo crunch had a crispy layer with fried shrimp and crab and the sauces were the right level. We didn't really need extra sauce on the side although they do give you hot sauce and soya sauce. It was really delicious. The salmon samba was teriyaki salmon with some veggies and greens. It was a bit on the healthier side but decent tasting. Keen to try the other options. We found a staple pin in one of the rolls while eating it. That's dangerous. Thus deducted one star.

Average+ option for indo chinese food.We orderedveg Manchurian fried rice - quality and quantity of food was pretty good. Spice level was perfect and we enjoyed this dish. Can't say it was authentic dish because there was something missing in taste but still it was good compared to other places I have tried.veg Manchurian - I saw others reviews about this dish and decided to asked them to make it less oily and they did make it perfect dish. Compared to other places I didn't enjoyed this dish very much but it's ok.Taste ? wise I would give 3/5 stars because Manchurian balls were little uncooked or maybe I didn't enjoyed them because they were little sticky and chewy.Quantity wise it was ok. Dish had about 6 to 7 Manchurian balls.Maybe next time I will visit to try other veg options they have.

I regularly buy and enjoy the mangoes at AVAs, and would like to buy more products there, but inventory management is an issue. They run out of items and it seems like a long delay before that product repopulates a shelf. Take Santa Cruz organic concord grape juice, as an example. Id love to buy it at AVAs, since they carry it, but it seems like their most popular of about 30 juice varieties, and it always seems to be OUT OF STOCK, forcing me to buy this grape juice, or an alternative, elsewhere., It seems like they should notice there are 30 juices and one runs out of stock FIRST every single week, leaving an empty useless section of the shelf. Why not change the amount bought when re-buying this type? The recent purchase I made a month ago gives them the freedom to over-stock. Buying a jar in September 2020, the jar-top best used by date is June, 2022 - almost 2 years ahead. They should not worry at all about having too much inventory and over-extending beyond the best used by date. This seems to be their top-selling juice and would never last that long. Please team, read this review and make changes! This grape juice never seems to go out of stock at WHOLE FOODS or NOB HILL, but why give them the advantage of my purchase dollars. I would prefer to see AVAs stay in business and to receive these shopping dollars!Sincerely, Steve, a regular AVAs shopper (multiple times per week for mangoes and Strauss Creamery organic milk, and if it were possible, Santa Cruz organic concord grape juice. )
Garden Fresh

100% vegan Asian fusion restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. Tasty, well seasoned food with hot, spicy, gluten free, heart healthy choices clearly marked on menu. Ample portions at affordable prices. Lunch specials offering smaller portions of full sized entrees. Good appetizer & soup selections. Most Dishes freshly made to order, so might be a wait, yet worth it. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Unisex restroom. Small space, seating for maybe 25 - 30. Onstreet parking, with free lot across the street, with 2 hour limit.

Chicken tikka masala was below mediocre. The chicken was pretty scrappy, not breast meat and the portion was a little small. The sauce was lacking in flavor and appeared to be just mostly heavy cream. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was frankly horrible. Constant alarmingly loud banging into the walls from the kitchen and overall didn't appear very clean. The kitchen had multiple timers going off they they didn't care to stop which was just a little irritating as you are trying to eat. Watch out they add fees for dining in and don't tell you. I'm confused on how this place has so many positive reviews because it was pretty bad, I won't be returning. Also I'm not sure if it's the owners truck or not but backed up to the front door is a truck with garbage piling up around it with a smashed windshield that looks like it's been there for a while and it's a little off putting as you are walking in. It's also there in the google maps picture of the restaurant so I guess it must be a permanent feature.
Gochi Japanese Fusion Tapas
1943 W El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94041, United States
Gochi is a fusion of an Asian restaurant and a TSA line! Recently had dinner there and was abruptly told we strictly had 90 minutes to eat. Service was bizarre. Pressured in many different ways. Oh, and no prices on the menu. Drinks, Appetizers and dinner all came at once, rushed because it took a while to take our order. We were told we had to leave at 80 minutes and escorted to the door promptly. Food was excellent but experience left me feeling awful. Many of the staff seem to be on the spectrum. Not recommended for business, date, catching up with friends.Odd fusion of being a high end restaurant that shows no prices on the menu and being moved along like a homeless person.
Cafe Terrace

On par with Darla, our other new fave brekky spot.I dont understand the bad reviews. Maybe they ordered the wrong things and the restaurant should consider paring down the menu to only their best items. We had a pasta (mushroom) and an open faced sandwich (chicken pesto) and both were delicious. Not the best I ever had but solid. The pasta was softer than I like but still edible, there was so much truffle we could smell it even when the dish was being brought to our table, and there were tons of mushrooms. The croffle texture was denser than expected but not sweet (a good thing for a savory sandwich imho) and overall the elements together made a tasty bite. My tiniest complaint would be that some of the lettuce was not appropriately sized for the sandwich and I felt like one of those Disney Epcot prehistoric ride animatronic dinosaurs trying to chew this big leaf. The desserts looked too deadly sweet so we skipped those. Also skipped the donuts because they looked like cake donuts which are not my thing. And good thing I didnt get the citrus salad because I read it had added sugar on it which is baffling as its a fruit salad and not a fruit dessert.Service was attentive and not overly hovering. Ambiance was chill, place was clean, and it wasnt very busy (can get crowded on the weekends). Due to lack of soft decor the noise level was a bit high considering how few people were in there, making conversation a little difficult. Also wish they had longer hours.Ill be back to try their drinks.
