Me and Jungle Cafe
3943 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611, United States
Such a cute space and great food. I really need to give kudos to the girl working the front - she was SO upbeat, so kind, and was dealing with people coming in and out and taking orders with grace and a good attitude. On top of that, she was training a new hire! These people really put a lot of love and effort into their cafe and it shows.Pros: the Soya Soya wrap was full of veggies and super fresh. The peanut sauce was very tasty and went perfectly with the wrap. I could taste the mint in the wrap which is exactly what I wanted. I will definitely come back and eat this again!Critiques: the drinks were IMO subpar, but I am also very picky in this area. The turmeric ginger latte (non-coffee) was good but not very ginger forward and very sweet. The espresso in the other latte was burnt or just not made from a good bean - I personally would not order it again. Normally I'd dock a star for this, but the exceptional attitude of the girl working combined with the love that was so clearly put into this shop outweigh these minor setbacks (and even if taste wasn't there they were beautifully presented!). I will definitely be back!

Shooting Star Cafe
1022 Webster St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
In Oakland Chinatown you have all kinds of food, dim sum, to quick grab 2 item lunch boxes, sit down cheap Chinese food, and then you get a Hong Kong Cafe restaurant. The colors are bright and poppy with stuffed purple chairs. This place has become a very popular lunch spot, so when you walk in, put your name on the waiting list. There will be a line, but its people waiting for seats. The menu is really large with different selections of dishes such as sandwiches, rice lunch plates, to a la carte, to desserts, weird Asian drinks, to waffles and crepes. It becomes a bit overwhelming to pick something. My co-worker describes this place as Asian fusion, but it is Hong Kong style cafe straight up. We got the pineapple fried rice (served in a carved out pineapple) and the satay stir fried short rib. Both were decent dishes. You have to be adventurous and give things a try, some of the items are pretty fun. One drink my co-worker ordered was dubbed Sea World and it had small star shaped fruit, it was blue and topped with basil seeds.

Saucy Oakland
468 8th St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
I have been to Saucy twice now and I cannot stop recommending it. The staff are truly welcoming and make great recommendations. The ambience is ideal for friend night or date night. Great wall art, music, lighting and general decor. The drinks are fun and phenomenal. We had the passion fruit Sake and the guava/strawberry Sake. These were so fresh and well mixed. The food.Oh my goodness, the food! The Himachi spoon shooters cannot be overstated- so much flavor; a must! The pork belly lettuce wraps are also one of my faves- so tender, juicy, and fresh. The Crab cakes, dear God those Crab cakes! You want fresh Crab cakes come here. They are beautifully served with a delicious sauce on top- such fresh crabeat meat. The garlic noodles are to die for. These are my favorite garlic noodles I have had. They will not disappoint. We also got the prawn pumpkin curry. This curry was so creamy and perfect for a cold night.I had some kind of bread pudding here that blew our minds!Honestly I cant wait to eat there again. Highly recommend!

Teni East Kitchen
4015 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611, United States
I want to love this place, but I am only mostly into it.Solid food, but it's quite expensive for the portion sizes. The roti is so tasty and unlike other roti I've had. The curry sauce they serve it with is so so good. This was the best thing we had. The $12 appetizer comes with just one roti though and a small bowl of dipping curry. I feel they should include two for the price. The catfish was freshly fried and quite tasty but definitely very spicy. I wish it had more of the tamarind flavor. There are no sides served with this entree, despite costing $15-18 (can't remember exactly). The noodles are also super spicy. I felt they were also lacking flavor and trying to make up for it in spice. I like spicy food, but was just unimpressed with the balance here. Again, it seemed expensive for the amount of noodle you receive. The restaurant space is large and feels like upscale cocktail bar in an impersonal and empty way. This restaurant is too bright and doesn't feel cozy at all. They're trying to be an upscale cocktail bar but coming off as upscale cafeteria. Not a bad spot, but I probably won't be back. If the total for an app and two entrees was closer to $35, I'd eat here again. For $70 (with tax and tip) this doesn't work well for me unfortunately.

Huangcheng Noodle House
911 Washington St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
According to my wifey, the name of business sounds like to (owe money) in mandarin. I wanted to skip this place because I dont feel comfortable eating at a place with a name like that. She laughed and asked why working so late babe? I told her a client stuck in traffic was making his way over from Fremont. After a lengthy meeting, it was too late to drive back to SF, so I figured stop by a day earlier than what they told me two weeks ago. First and foremost, the food is pretty good, but language barrier almost got me to order wrong. It turns out they open a day earlier and signature dishes on back of menu werent available. However, noodle soup and appetizer are the only ready to go. I knew this place was legit the moment I look at menu. It show a few things on each page all categorize with description and pictures. Knife shaved noodle and Chongqing is what they specialize, it could be done dry/wet and rice or noodle. Got me braised pork ribs noodle soup because other dishes had red oil in soup base. Last time I had red soup base my anus had so much discomfort that I had to apply Preparation H all night long. I like this bowl solely based on the broth and noodles itself. Each strand of noodles are unique with different pattern of shaving. Broth was flavorful and tasty and no msg taste. Braised pork was plentiful some even had bones attached. Will be back to try signature knife shaved dish D#11. Dont let this semi shoddy look of place persuade you from trying. Jung hai ho sic wa!

Fusion kitchen
3009 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland, CA 94602, United States
I am really excited that there are 3 new restaurants in my are, but I am afraid Fusion Kitchen has its work cut out for it. My wife and I went this afternoon and it was disappointing in a number of ways. It is noisy, which ok, is a matter of perception and tolerance. They do have an outdoor area but only 3 tables. We ordered the Mango Salad. It was so garlicky my wife couldnt eat it. It is 80% cucumber with a smattering of french-fry-size pieces of Mango. When we sent it back the only response of the waitress was Thats the way we make it. Okay! They took it off the check but nobody said a word of apology or well mention it to the chef. Even if they dont really mean it that is what good restaurants do. Really good restaurants mean it. (For an incredible mango salad try Anchalee Thai in Berkeley.)Then we had Savory Curry with Japanese Vegetables. I was unaware the brussel sprout was a Japanese vegetable. It was mostly brussel sprout and squash. The curry sauce was gelatenous looking. It tasted better than it looked. Which is good. But not everybody is a brussel sprout fan, tell folks what they are really getting.I am sorry that it is that way. Probably not heading back soon.

Namaste Pizza
5942 San Pablo Ave, Oakland, CA 94608, United States
Update: Hairnets in place, deliciousness still there. Back to beat pizza in town.New fave is the minty turkey pizza! Try it, you wont regret it.First, I have to say I really like their pizza flavors (and Im not alone) - the chicken pizza masala is awesome. However, my last order left me a bit sad for two reasons:1. The delivery person called back accusing us of not paying enough in cash. I can understand the frustration losing a $20 can cause and the resulting call back. Both me and my wife know for a fact the stack of over $60 was absolutely correctly counted. I dont hold this against them and wish we counted it when we exchanged pizzas for cash. Going to pay closer attention next time - you, the reader, should as well.2. Our beloved chicken pizza masala had hair in it, embedded in the cheese - not one hair but two long hairs, in two different slices - we had to throw away. Evidence attached.Notice I did not subtract a lot of stars for this! Because I like their pizza THAT much and hope they fix the issue and continue to sell their lovely pizza.**** They have to enforce using __hair nets__ when making the pies! ****Looking forward to a reply confirming the above and will update my review accordingly, and eating their pizza again (call me crazy, but I will still order it)!

Sticky Rice Cafe
2810 International Blvd, Oakland, CA 94601, United States
It was delicious!Dont be fooled by the photos posted here, just go to their website and see their full menu and pictures there. You can order there to go or pick up too.We had dinner in the place and wanted to try different things. The place is small and cozy, the decoration is beautiful and the space looks clean and nice. The service was fast, and welcoming. Also the server made sure as we were ordering to much, to let us know when it was too much, and we appreciated it.When the food arrived we were so happy all looked so good and tasty and it got even better when we tried it. So good and so generous! The spring rolls were so tasty and the sauce was great too.The Cashew nut Chicken wok was sweet and savory and a little spicy with a really nice texture and fresh vegetables. The chicken panang curry was also amazing, with a taste of coconut and fresh vegggies.Really nice food.We (2ppl) ate enough to be full and brought home some left overs. The total price was 48 + tip, which is a fair price for the quality, the service and the amount of food they served us.Id definitely come back and recommend others to come try.

Mings Tasty
940 Webster St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
Great food and great prices. Everything is ordered off-menu, so you wont have to compete for any dishes youre particularly interested in. To rank what I tried:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐:- Lotus Rice: sticky rice with deeply savory pork filling.- Chinese Broccoli: tender and well seasoned.- Thousand Shrimp Ball: basically ideal mini corn dogs.- Egg Custard Buns: delicate bao with a sweet, rich, egg yolk custard filling- the only item we ordered twice. So awesome.- Taro Coconut Milk Pear Cake: lightly sweet with subtle coconut and taro flavors.⭐⭐⭐⭐:- Durian Puffs: I enjoyed these, but my friends did not. Not overly sulfuric, sort of sweet potato-esque with a crisp pastry exterior.- Har Gow: classic and well executed.- Shui Mai: large and well composed, with whole shrimp.- Turnip Cakes: chewy and glutinous, with tender radish.⭐⭐⭐:- Pan Fried Bao: Average pork and celery filling with a solid bun.- Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll: impressed by the whole shrimp, but I dont love the gummy, glutinous texture of the noodles. However, the favorite dish of one friend.⭐⭐:- Chiu Chao Dumplings: overly glutinous wrapper fell apart while lifting the dumplings. Nicely toasted peanuts but fell flat overall. After everything, there were still 3 or 4 dishes I had hoped to try but didnt! Next time.Oolong tea was sipped throughout the meal. Service was very friendly and us dumb Americans really appreciated the overall English fluency. Total was $90 after 20% tip, and we left more than satisfied. Lovely experience and Id definitely recommend.
