Daimon Japanese Restaurant
16232 CA-1, Huntington Beach, CA 92649, United States
Initially I tried to make a reservation but unfortunately, they had another large party coming in so they told me to either choose an earlier time or a later time. Since we had a large group, I had to double-check with the group if this was ok. I had a friend call in and make the reservation. Lo and behold, he was able to get us a reservation for the time we wanted for teppan. When I called, they didnt give me the choice and Im assuming the other large party was for the sushi area. So definitely specify when you make a reservation! Our group wanted teppan so we happily snagged the 7 pm slot. The restaurant is located on PCH by this motel and parking is valet but you can try your luck parking on PCH. Once inside, I went to the back bar to meet my friends. Free shot with Yelp Check-in! The night was off to a good start. Apparently they have all night happy hour on Mondays and Wednesdays, double score for us.As far as teppan was concerned, we saved $10 off with the happy hour special of pick 2 (any combination of NY steak, chicken, shrimp, or calamari). I opted for the NY steak (medium rare) and shrimp. With our meal, we also received salad, soup, fried or steamed rice, vegetables and noodles. It was a lot of food and I was starving. They even accommodated my friends request not to mix her seafood with meat as she has some food allergies. The food was delicious, but maybe its because I was starving. I also tried some of my friends Nigori cold sake and ordered a Kirin for myself. I thought I had ordered the draft but out came a bottle instead. No big deal since it was happy hour pricing. If youve never been to a teppan show, youre in for a treat. Our chef and server kept us entertained throughout the evening. Our group had a great time. I can see how this place can get rowdy on the weekends but when we were there, it was quieter. It definitely depends on the clientele.
Pacific Hideaway
500 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, United States
Been coming here for seven years. I live local and do not always like to be around the crowds and the busy areas in downtown HB so this place offers a chic little venue with decent food and good customer service. Parking is street and I believe there is some underground parking although I have never used it as I tend to either walk here from home or park on the street or take the local circuit shuttle. Drinks are over priced for what you get but that's almost at any fancy restaurant. Their craft cocktails are nothing exceptional ( I am a craft cocktail snob - extra picky so if you are not you will be fine here) but their food has been consistently excellent for years. There were years where it was hit or miss and I wouldn't come back but always decided to try them again mostly because it's one of the best views in town with the pier and ocean as well as it's the Shore Break hotel which is in itself beautiful and very much in tune with the style of Huntington Beach and modern upscale restaurants. Lately I've been going there for their breakfast and it does not disappoint. Consistently great. The gluten free pancakes are the best on this planet and I'm not ordering them because I can't consume gluten it's because they taste phenomenal. It is by far the best thing there. As I'm vegetarian there are not too many options but a decent amount compared to most restaurants. Enough items to keep me coming back. My usuals are the buttermilk pancakes, veggies in the AM crepe(best crepe veggie omelet thing ever!) and the Thai tofu wrap soooo good. They have other veggie options you can see from others menu photo posts. They used to make these bbq avocado tacos that were amazing but they haven't made them in years which is a big disappointment. Overall I highly recommend this place from its cozy chic inside dining area to the outside dining area overlooking the ocean from the side street.
Mahkin Thai & Sushi
303 3rd St Unit 140, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, United States
Great Thai food and friendly service! But stick with the Thai food. The shrimp on the shrimp and vegetables tempura were skinny shrimp, The vegetables were breaded 2 inch long, skinny green beans. Basically, the shrimp and vegetables were too small for tempura, and the panko breading was too crispy and thick.Be aware - there is no ripe yellow papaya on the papaya salad. It’s being raved about in the reviews but it is an acquired taste.Rather than lettuce, or a ripe papaya, the basic salad looks & tastes more like shredded turnips. The restaurant needs to give American guests who are unaware of this Asian tradition, a heads-up this is shredded unripened papaya, that most Americans don’t really care for, and also that the salad is spicier than most Americans are expecting. The red curry, and the Philadelphia, rolls, and the Pad Thai were delicious!
Thai Wave
522 Main St #5134, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, United States
A Thai restaurant located one or two blocks inland from Huntington Beach. The food is OK, and the staffs attitude and service are good. Its a shame that the beer isnt very cold (its cold, but not cold), but its not Japan, so it cant be helped. If youre craving Asian food while youre in California, I think its a good idea to check out this store.
Kung Pao Bowl
6840 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, United States
Ate here recently. It started off OK. We arrived and got seated right away at one of their nice booths. Not even 2 minutes after and the server was already wanting our food order. Theres not a particular server assigned to a station. A different server came to take our order. First, our food came out quickly and was not hot as if cooked fresh. I ordered iced tea to drink during my meal I needed a refill and no one came to my table to ensure everything was OK. I had to flag a busboy to request a ice tea refill. Then, he took a while before coming back. So, I flagged another person and right when the 2nd server came to my booth, the busboy grabs my glass and takes off to get me a refill - strange. It was as if he remembered he was supposed to have gotten me an ice tea refill. Then, no one came by at all to ask if all ok. Just a different server brought over the bill and put it on the table and walked away. Then, another lady server brought over to-go small styrofoam containers and left. Finally, busboy came to take my check to the front and we waited until the main lady got off the phone before my bill was charged and brought over to my table. My 1st impression is that friendliness is not something practiced here. For what they charge for basic Chinese food, at least it should be friendly. I wont be coming back.
Kabuki
7801 Edinger Ave Suite 114, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, United States
The place is near the movie theater, which gives a good vibe to come inside for a bunch. They have put up signs for happy hour with prices to be less expensive than other places for happy hour. The place inside has many decorations that are a mixture of Asian cultures, which include the war art that is near the restroom. They also have an outdoor patio and bar for both sushi and alcohol. Making it a place for different people. The service is generally nice, but with some lack of numbers to carry out the service, the place concentrated on big groups and observed the small groups if needed, but very attentive. But the observed progress of the work, it shows the separation of the active to inactive waiters/waitress by the same face in different tables. Which is the only drawback. The food is beautiful in appearance, and the taste is satisfactory, which makes itself in the best than it other branches. The tuna roll is balanced to have a right degree of rice and tuna that doesnt figure for quantity but craft for quality. The squid balls were perfectly cooked inside that many restaurants had made the mistake, but they also made the mistake that made short to perfection the freshness that the squid balls were made. Which in many aspects that most restaurants had uncooked the inside to be cold, soggy, or can accidently for food poisoning by the raw squid. This restaurant didnt make the mistake, but left out the freshness that the Squid balls were baked like a donut. The breading and inside would start to lose the intense flavors as time outside of the oven, which it tastes from the balls dough. The nacho sushi is different in craftsmanship that it was made blissful of flavors, but unknown of sour crop sauce that can smooth out the intense kick that gives the variety taste and adjust to the dish that perfect with creativity. Which made the place that can stand on the location as one of the great for sushi lovers and relaxation to eat.
Panda Express

Food was okay I got beef and broccoli and I think I just got all broccoli they need to know their portions better if I want to just broccoli I would ask for just broccoli but beef and broccoli supposed to have beef in it this is the second time this has happened and its pretty irritating when food is expensive and thats what I get its not like Im going to drive all the way back down there four or five miles back to Panda Express to complain but next time I show up here I will be complaining the customer service is good but when it gets busy they dont give a s*** they just go right through everything and get s*** done as fast as they can and dont pay attention to Quality and quantity my medium size orange chicken had like three big pieces in it and two small pieces which made it basically half full when it took one piece out that was blocking anymore to go in so watch when theyre putting your food in the boxes they apparently dont care when its coming to rush hour they just want to get you in and out of the store and make their money good luck
Ikeda Japanese Dining
18900 Beach Blvd #112, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, United States
I am very disappointed in my experience last night. I have been going to Ikeda for years, and supporting them throughout the pandemic by ordering takeout regularly. Last night, we ordered the usual poke salads to go. When my husband brought them home, we noticed right away the portions were much smaller. We ordered 3 salads. They must have realized the portions were smaller too because there was 1 random small container of lettuce placed in the bag. I divided that among our 3 salads before serving. One of the bites I took tasted soapy. I didnt say anything to my family and kept eating. A minute later, my husband said something tasted soapy in his salad. All 3 of us stopped eating and threw them away. When I called, the manager (or owner) refused to get on the phone and instead spoke through the woman who answered the phone. She said she was sorry I felt the way I did and assured me the quality was the same. Today, I called again because I wanted to go in person to talk to someone about my experience. The person who answered told a woman there that I wanted to speak with a manager. I could hear the conversation. The woman then told him to tell me there was no manager there. She clearly did not wish to speak to me last night, or today. It is really disheartening because I am sure the business has suffered and they are clearly still struggling. Unfortunately after being treated this way, I will not be going to this restaurant anymore.
Saigon District Restaurant Presotea
19171 Magnolia St #3, Huntington Beach, CA 92646, United States
I had previously visited and was eagering looking forward to coming back. I finally made a point to come back today for my birthday and brought as friend, who had never had the pleasure of having Pho. To my disappointment, not only were most of dishes lukewarm or cold, but the portions left much to be desired. Not only did my my meal, which I requested extra broccoli, come with none, it barely came with any veggies, much less a basic amount of veggies in a vegetarian dish. I was told my dish came with 5 broccoli. Because of this experience and that I had looked forward to this and recommended this place, I will hesitate to return a third time.
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
7862 Warner Ave #109, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, United States
Summary: All you can eat for $30 is a pretty good deal given the quality and quantity of the food. Tastes and textures were pretty good. Service was rapid in bringing out food and laying out the fine print (the latter being a bad thing). Wouldnt recommend coming with a large party unless you have a system for managing the grill already in place. Grills need to be changed out more often. My family and my sisters fiances family merged for a 13-person dinner on a Sunday at 5:30pm for her birthday dinner. We arrived around 5:20pm, but ended up waiting until 5:45pm for the tables to be ready (even though they were in the back room, where no one was currently sitting). Not ideal timing since there was a young child in the group that was ready for his din din.We were given two booths for all of us. Which meant one booth had 3 and 3, and the other had 4 and 3. Not spacious really, and each table had one grill, so that meant a lot of hands going to the grill and not a lot of table space since there were plates, sauce trays, glasses, etc. already there. Far from logistically ideal. We were given some menus and told that the happy hour all you can eat price is $30/person. It was encouraged that that be selected, so everyone agreed to go that route for simplicity. We were then told to look over the menu and decide the stuff we wanted. After reviewing, we had an idea, but then the server told us she would just bring two orders of each meat so we could get a taste of everything. Heres where things got kind of sketchy. She basically selected the food for us, minus some of the appetizers we asked for, but after telling us shed bring out two of everything (many of the dishes we would not have ordered normally), she then said wed have 90 minutes to eat everything and anything left wed be charged at the a la carte price for. Itd be one thing for us to get charged for extra food we didnt eat if we specifically ordered it, but to be told that AFTER being told what shed bring for us anyways, was just wrong IMO. This left a stain in our heads throughout the meal that we would have to finish everything or pay extra. Whether it was true or not, I cant say, but just having that constantly in the foreground throughout a celebratory dinner is far from an ideal experience. The food started coming out. Plate after plate after plate. As wed start to put stuff on the grill, more food would arrive. Wed have to shuffle things around to make space, and then our food would get charred on one side. Wed try to get those things off the grill and more food would arrive. Wed play the shuffling game again, and our food that had been removed wouldnt be hot anymore. The pacing was just not working for a large group that didnt have a system for how to manage all the items while ensuring everyone got fed. They changed the grill once, but then we had to ask for it to be changed a second time once it was loaded with burnt food that we couldnt remove in time. I tend to be able to eat a lot of food, but I felt like I didnt eat nearly as much as I normally would because I was in the middle on one side and trying to make sure everyone got food and that the stuff on the grill didnt overcook. I ordered one plate extra for myself, but I didnt want to do more since everyone was finishing up and it would look strange for me to be the only one still eating a bunch.Ultimately, it was a decent first Japanese BBQ experience, and I appreciate the potential of Gyu Kaku, but I felt like the restaurant either couldnt handle us properly, or the servers didnt pace things right for us to have a more relaxed dining experience. Either way, Im not sure if Ill come back. If I do, it definitely wont be with a party bigger than four people.
