RamenKoko
7750 Palm Ave suite N, Highland, CA 92346, United States
Delicious ramen and fantastic service. Ive become obsessed with ramen as of late, but havent found a place that really has impressed me; until today. Ive been hearing about RamenKoKo since we moved to Highland about a year ago and finally followed up to the claims today. The place is a small, inviting restaurant with only a handful of tables and mostly American movie posters from Japan lining the walls. Its charming and the staff greeted us immediately. The menu is small and easy to figure out, which is great for me as im still new to japanese food, but is full of intriguing dishes and appetizers. We orders edamame and gyoza to start. The gyoza was perfectly cooked and didnt disappoint and the edamame came coated in a garlic chili paste that was so good I could eat it by itself with a spoon. My wife got a garlic pork rice bowl and I ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen. I love pork and have been wanting to try real tonkatsu ramen since learning about it last year (thanks to Mike Chen on YouTube) I also ordered some miso broth as I have never had it and really wanted to try it. The rice bowl was good, slightly sweet and the pork was great. The miso broth impressed me and was super salty and delicious. The star of the show was my tonkatsu ramen. The broth is so rich and flavorful and is only improved when you add the chili paste to the broth. The pork belly on top was crazy good and once you dive into this dish you dont want to stop until your sniffling and full. The spice level was perfect and I truly cannot describe how tasty the broth is. I tried the thin noodles and they were good, but they have other options and Ill be trying those next time. I cant forget about the service and staff too. They were all so polite and attentive and helpful that it makes you appreciate the people who take their jobs seriously and provide that kind of service. Overall, great experience with fantastic food and service. I cannot wait to go back and eat through the rest of their menu!
Shintaro Sushi and Japanese Restaurant
1900 N Highland Ave #5, Los Angeles, CA 90068, United States
Tourists beware, you may need reservations. We were ignorant that this place needed reservations, even seemed to aggravate the hostess but she seated us right away. The waiter was super nice and accommodating, but the food was just okay, another cookie-cutter, typical US sushiya restaurant. I had a few assorted pieces sashimi which was fresh and quite delicious. Minus 1 star for the unwelcomed feeling the hostess gave us and minus 1 star for being in the heart of Los Angeles but average, inchiki, Japanese restaurant.
Ninja Hibachi Express
4236 Madison Ave, North Highlands, CA 95660, United States
By far the nastiest food I have ever had. I ordered broccoli beef with fried rice and a chicken chowmein; what I got was broccoli beef that looked like it just had cold sauce dumped on it, plus the broccoli had a funny smell to it and it had a horrible taste. Now the fried rice looked drenched and clearly was drenched in soy sauce. No flavor, not even appetizing. As for the chicken chowmein they didnt even get my order right! For that they gave me beef, but thats not the worst part, this dish had no flavor whatsoever either, and it was very very oily. I tried to add some soy sauce to improve flavor but that just made it so much worst. The advertising on their site looks good but the food really lacks flavor. This is literally not a place Id come to again. Sorry not sorry.
Sushi & Galbi

I came in to the restaurant and ask to be seated next to the TV. The debate was on and since it was the final debate it was important that I was able to watch it. She hesitated to seat me there but I insisted and sat down. After I sat down she handed me the menu and I looked it over and when it was time to order I placed my order and she told me that I could not drink my Gatorade that I brought in. I told her I was either going to drink my Gatorade or I would leave. She said yes and walked away... So my food comes out to the table and she sees me drinking the Gatorade and she reached over and touched it and said u drank this much Gatorade you cannot drink it. I told again that if I was not able to drink my Gatorade then I would leave and never come back. She said that is fine so I asked to speak to the owner I further explained to her that she was being disrespectful and in realistic. She told me she was the owner and I can either leave or not drink my drink. Seriously that was the worst business decision I have ever seen an owner make. She lost thousands of dollars and customers over a stupid rule. This is the united States since when can I not drink a Gatorade while I eat... I honestly think she dont want customers and she is laundering money for a biger scam somewhere. Either way this place is shady and probably doing something illegal that is the only reason an owner would give up customers over such a stupid communist rule. DONT EAT HERE TRUST ME! Not to mention the food was horrible and the place is empty... And now everyone knows why its empty.... Go eat at a different sushi joint I guarantee they are better and cheaper.
The IZAKA-YA by KATSU-YA Manhattan Beach
1133 Highland Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States
This is a much better than average Japanese restaurant with great prices considering it is downtown Manhattan Beach. The small plates are excellent for two people to share. The presentations are better than average and the flavors are what you would expect in a more upscale Japanese restaurant. The casual atmosphere is welcoming even though it is bit loud in the dining room due to the sparse furnishings and abundance of hard surfaces. Overall, if you want tasty Japanese food at a reasonable price, this is a good choice.

Amazing as always.Really crowded tonight but still seated within 10 minutes. The service is great and the food is always good. Tonight a simple meal of a fresh roll and chirashi. They continue to serve tempura shrimp as soon as you are seated. Complimentary and a wonderful preview to the rest if your meal.Prices are so much better than other Japanese restaurants we frequent out of the area.Easy parking and terrific air conditioning on a hot day.

I Love Sushi
7750 Palm Ave, Highland, CA 92346, United States
I give this restaurant 2 1/2 stars actually, and it would be less than that if it wasnt for the sushi chefs preparing the food. I have a lot to say about this place, but Im going to keep it as short as I can. ( Lunch buffet all you can eat is around 21.99 plus tax. ) I think my biggest problem was with the wait staff and the condescending attitude she displayed the other small concerns can be fixed. My experience went as follows: asked for a bottle of water and was told no restaurant has bottles of water asked for pepper shaker was told we dont have a need for salt and pepper shakers here and finally i wanted to be able to order separately from my guest and was made to order from the one order sheet and was told cmon you know how this worksAs you read these statements in your mind you have to keep in mind that the person saying these things is making bewildered looks on there face as if you just tried to order a big mac from a sushi restaurant. If you are able to accommodate a customer then do so, if not just say you cant... Its thats simple. And to be honest, simple requests were difficult for the wait staff. I asked for an empty cup with a saucer of lemon slices and stated that I will just get a bottle of water from the car, she bought back a cup full of ice with one lemon slice, REALLY! I did however try to justify spending $45 plus dollars for two people at this place by eating as much as I could but honestly the food was not that appeasing. The better items on the menu were Xd out for lunch because they were considered dinner items and the entire sashimi section was crossed out. All in all I rebelled at the end, my usual 5 dollar tip was only 4 dollars, take that I love sushi (lol). In short, I cant recommend this restaurant.
Sushi Ajito
1302 N Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028, United States
Nestled between the side streets of West Hollywood is Sushi Ajito. The restaurant serves a variety of Japanese cuisine, ranging from sushi to sashimi, ramen, poke bowls, udon, and sushi burritos. Ajito also features a fine selection of appetizers, including unique dishes such as baked green mussels, popcorn lobster, and octopus salad. There are alcoholic drinks available, including Asahi beer, a variety of sake (house hot sake, sauri sake, nigori sake), Harajuku draft drinks, and wines (chardonnay, merlot, pinot noir, and plum wine). For desserts, Ajito offers a variety of ice creams, including green tea, mochi, and tempura flavors. The Japanese cuisine joint is outfitted with bright lanterns and beachy art. The walls are decorated with cherry blossom paintings and endearing polaroid photos of their valued customers. Ajito has a very welcoming atmosphere, temptingly inviting guests in for an unforgettable meal.I ended up ordering the spicy ramen (which can be prepared vegan), as well as the sweet potato tempura roll. The ramen, which came out first, included carrot, seaweed, and bean sprouts with the noodles. The dish was relatively simple, but its broth excited my tastebuds with a savory kick. The sweet potato tempura rolls came out six stuffed with delicious chunks of, interestingly, tempura avocado. The rolls were piled high with tempura sweet potato sticks, and covered in a delicious, sweet glaze. While the sweet potato tempura seemed to be mostly tempura batter–there wasn't much sweet potato to be battered within–the tempura made for a delicious, textured crunch. The icing on top of the dish was the edible flower that crowded my pile of sushi. The service at Ajito was lovely. My food was prepared relatively quickly at the sushi bar in front of me, proving Ajito's commitment to fresh ingredients. My server was attentive to my dietary preferences, and I had a wide variety of vegan options to choose from on the menu.

If you are in South Bay/ Manhattan Beach / Los Angeles and love Sushi, sashimi, rice bowls or Ramen, then you MUST visit this small authentic Japanese establishment. Pros: fresh seafood, reasonable prices, friendly service. Cons: husband and wife team so make sure you order in advance for take-out, or come early or during off-peak period; very limited seating. I had tried crunchy Spicy tuna roll, spicy scallops roll, chirashi special mix bowl, spicy miso ramen. I'm very discerning where food is concerned, and I give them 10/10 !
