Domo Japanese Sushi Grill and Bar

Domo its an excellent Japanese restaurant in Stockton. Their Sushi is oishii, their entrees are excellent, their garlic rice is delicious. The only complaint I had is the service is slow.

Came here because my boyfriend used to love this place in high school (reading other reviews I see thats a common theme of people coming back after years and it not being as great as it once was).I ordered the: spicy salmon roll, tiger roll, hot chile night roll, chicken teriyaki bowl, bbq rollOverall service rating: 8Sushi rating: 3Fish quality: 7Atmosphere rating: 8CONS:- I felt it was strange to pay at the door. For a place that looks so gorgeous, I was expecting an actual sit down meal. They have such a large menu and it sucked having to scan through the menu quickly to order. Due to having to order before sitting down, a lot of the service aspect is taken out of the meal. But they were great about topping off drinks.- The sushi rolls were overall alright. Their quality in fish is good. But their sushi rolls are pretty basic. The menu made the sushi rolls seem really good, and I was disappointed when I got rolls that were as simple as California rolls. Basically the rolls I got were a piece of fish on top of a pile of rice and cucumber.- I thought it was pricey. We paid $50 dollars and though we got 5 dishes, it definitely didnt taste like it was worth $50 dollars for some basic California rolls and speedy take out.- I do not recommend having a date here unless you want some quick take out rather than a sit down dinner.- I ordered the spicy salmon roll knowing it was a basic roll, but it wasnt spicy at all and lacked on sauce. Salmon tasted good though.- DO NOT order the hot chile nights roll, it was basically a cucumber roll with a dallop of spicy tuna and a slice of jalapeno on top with a small drop of sauce. I was VERY disappointed. This roll was on the expensive side and I could have gotten a basic tuna roll and it would have been the same thing.PROS:- The chicken teriyaki bowl WAS TO DIE FOR. I usually hate chicken teriyaki but it was a large bowl was delicious chicken and fresh veggies and very good sauce. I would definitely come back here ONLY for the chicken teriyaki bowl.- The atmosphere is gorgeous. They did a great job decorating after their remodel. It looks like a high scale place.Overall: Most likely I will not be eating sushi here again or coming back for a meal. If I do come back to eat here, it will be for take out for their chicken teriyaki bowl. I could have paid the same price at a higher class sushi restaurant and had a better meal/experience.

Awesome. Hands down my favorite Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles, subtle rich flavors in a fun atmosphere with great beers and lovely sakes. This place is classy, the food is off the hook, very fresh. Even the house salad is fantastic. Get the creamy lobster k8 rolls. Ohhh! Service second to none, you have to reserve a table, unless your alone then you can probably find a seat at the bar.

Ramen were super bland( not even a little bit of spice), chef doesnt even have a hot sauce to make them spicy. Nothing is Japanese about the restaurant. I did ask, the waiter told me you dont have it and also he had to make one himself.

First time here...and my last. I should have known when I asked for sesame seeds on my roll and she said they dont have sesame seeds, first time I ever saw that at a Japanese restaurant. I ordered a blue crab (real crab) Cali roll. While I was waiting outside for my to go order, I saw the sushi chef open a can of something and I hoped it was not crab! When I got home to eat it, it was fishy, not like crab and it was only avocado & canned crab! My tempura was okay, however they did not close the lid on the dipping sauce and it leaked out making soggy, so not good. If I lived closer I would have gone back for a refund.

I usually dont write bad reviews but this one experience was enough to warrant a response. This was NYE 12/31/19 around 7pm, the place was NOT busy and not packed. Being that it was NYE, I was already in a nice suit looking professional. When I walked in, I said hello and was greeted somewhat tepidly. The young man with glasses started motioning me to the sushi bar and I said I didnt and wanted a small table since I was eating a dinner. He kept insisting that I sit at the bar. I finally was very firm and said I want a table. Also know, I noticed at least two other customers seated alone at a table and I found this odd. When I was seated I told my server I found that exchange completely inappropriate. He made no real sense explaining it and in fact his reaction was tepid and flat in any interest on what I had to say.The food? Well, it was pretty good. Ive had much better at mid range sushi/Japanese restaurants. In fact it was quite mediocre. The only person who was friendly was the only female in the restaurant. If I were the owner, I would keep her, fire the rest and ask her to invite some of her friendly friends to apply for the job.In all my years in eating in restaurants, Ive never had someone trying to force me to sit somewhere else where there were plenty of open tables. Granted I know tables have servers assigned, but it wasnt packed and easy to adjust.

I usually dont trust restaurants serving foods from two or three entirely different cultures: Thai and Japanese in this case. But they pull it off nicely here.

Great food, rude staff, and unreliable with COVID demands.I ordered by phone and was told it would be ready in 35-45 minutes. I arrived early bc there could be a line. I stood waiting in line for 20 minutes. Door Dash drivers were cutting in front of the 40+ people waiting. I told the clerk that it wasn't fair for Door Dash to cut in front of us and she said that it's fine. The food may have been made fresh but it was no longer fresh by the time I finished paying. Of the four items, two went from hot to cold at the restaurant and were inedible.THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. Which is why I called for a refund.I spoke with Andrew. Andrew was very confrontational. He argued with me from the moment that the word “refund” came out of my mouth. Based on how many people were waiting in line- I am not special, I did not have a unique experience, everyone got food that was sitting on a table for a while. There were at least 50 bags of food waiting to be picked up. Andrew denied that the food had been sitting around. He said that the manager would only refund for two items on this order and nothing from the previous order because there's no way to prove that I had ordered twice in two weeks. I offered to provide the date, time, and order number but that was a nonstarter.Times are challenging and restaurants are struggling. This one is struggling to keep up with changing times and have decided that customer satisfaction is irrelevant.

We had a bittersweet experience at this place.Service: My husband and I went around 7:15 pm on Saturday. It was fairly busy, but we got our order in pretty quickly. Lots of people came after us and started receiving their food. After 20 min in we found out that the server forgot to punch in our order. We didnt mind much because we had time plus the server was brand new so we didnt want to make it hard on him. Our food arrived after 1 hour of placing an order and the appetizers came after the food. I got black tonokatsu ramen. It seemed a little dry and the additonal topping I asked for was missing, so after voicing the concern I got little more broth and topping on side. After eating few bites I found a hair in my bowl so I complained to the 2nd server and she ordered a replacement. As disgusting as it sounds, we agreed to get the fresh bowl.Food: My husband loved his vegan ramen. Vegan Bun was ok, I wouldnt order it. It was dry and chewy. I loved my new bowl of black tonokatsu ramen. I would highly recommend trying it. We also had chocolate mochi which was good.Parking: Street parking could be hard to find, but we parked in the large shopping complex with Bristol farms, CVS, etc. From there Kai is only couple buildings down which takes few seconds to walk.Rating: Despite of our experience Im giving 4 star because this place has a great potential and the food is amazing. It is a brand new place with short staff. They had total 2 servers, 2 cooks and no manager. I would like to give them a benefit of doubt because they might need more time to be fully staffed and pick up on their service. Mai was incredibly helpful to us even though she wasnt our server.Ill update my review based on the future visit trends.

Finally, a Sushi restaurant that meets the taste buds of a Bay Area transplant. This is the finest Japanese restaurant in the area and youd have to travel 45-minutes away to find something comparable. I know, Ive tried them all after moving here 6-years ago. Ive been eating Sashimi & Sushi since 1972 before it was popular in America. For many years I frequented fine Japanese restaurants in Boston, New York and San Francisco. Hank is an awesome Sushi chef and person. You can trust him and the quality of his food. Enjoy !!
