Umi Japanese Grill & Cafe
401 Mission Ave B100, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
Umi is a small Japanese restaurant next to the Regal Theater in Oceanside. It serves a wide range of sushi rolls/hand rolls and other Japanese food at reasonable prices. I had the chicken teriyaki bowl which included grilled vegetables which was very tasty.
Yukiya Sushi
2415 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
One of my absolute TOP favorite restaurants now in Oceanside, food is amazing! I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants here in southern cali and this has got to be the best one I’ve been to so far.Prices are very reasonable and food here is beyond fresh and delicious ? i left the restaurant very full lol (the crunch roll it’s 12/10 ) there are so many delicious food options here ( like the tempura and vegetarian and baked rolls, and bento boxes I saw!) that is also suited to picky eaters like myself!Definitely coming here at least 2-3 times a month?
Rosewood Kitchen
608 Mission Ave, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
Joshua, the owner, waiter and cook of the Rosewood restaurant was the most personable and made some of the best Japanese Comfort Food and drinks EVER!! Id rate all things a 10 on the rating scale 1-5!! ???
Teri Cafe - Oceanside II
3809 Plaza Dr #101, Oceanside, CA 92056, United States
Been going to this place since it was a tiny cafe in the now demolished structures of the WinCo parking lot (that original restaurant moved right across the street on El camino). They are mostly sticking to a great service model. Cheap food with inoffensive dishes, counter service with bussing. I really appreciate the authentic Japanese/Hawaiian casual eats with focus on Japanese. Quality of raw fish has gone down, but you get what you pay for.
Teri Cafe
2216 S El Camino Real UNIT 123, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
Japanese restaurant and bar with a nice Hawaiian vibe and very friendly service. While there are dedicated ramen shops throughout San Diego county that do ramen arguably better, the ramen at Teri Cafe is actually pretty good, and their sushi rolls have thick slices of fish in them. My only criticism of the ramen, and it is a very minor one, was that the egg was completely hard coiled versus medium or soft boiled as is traditionally found in ramen, but again, it is a very minor criticism. I had both the Tonkotsu ramen and the Aloha Roll, and the slice of tuna on top of the roll was thick and tasty, moreso than what you normally get at most sushi places. As mentioned before, the service is friendly, and on my first visit here the hostess walked me patiently through the menu and ordering method (orders are placed prior to seating at the front register). Very kid-friendly as I noticed a few families with young children during lunch. Will definitely be back with my family on a future visit.
Go Go Japan Sushi & Bento
4121 Oceanside Blvd #202, Oceanside, CA 92056, United States
This restaurant service is very good. friendly Food prices and quality are worth it. The only downside is that the menu has too many items. Sometimes confusing takes a long time for selection. But overall this is my favorite Japanese restaurant.
Sunshine Kitchen
1006 Mission Ave Suite A, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
Conveniently located off the Interstate which gave us a break from being in traffic. Sunshine Kitchen is located on the opposite end of Wal Mart Neighborhood Market next door to a taco shop and Pho place. Huge outdoor patio with heaters. It’s a Japanese restaurant serving curries, rice bowls, plates, rolls, poke, fried rice, ramen, yakisoba/udon, hot soba/udon, salads and sides. We ordered:-spicy garlic edamame: Great garlicky sauce-Takoyaki: The least fav of all, it was a giant ball that had too much wheat flour that we just plucked out the tiny bit of octopus-chicken karaage curry over steamed rice: We asked for a higher spice level and it had all the right spice and curriness.-Oceanside roll: OMG this roll is so good. Fresh thin slices of avocado and soft shell crab. Inside had more crab and shrimp tempura.-Dinner plate #2 (chicken teriyaki over fried rice, 2 gyoza, mix tempura, Japanese potato salad, and green salad): Had a mix of everything. My fav was the Oceanside roll with the soft shell crab and avocado topping. The dinner plate was huge but I’m not a fan of the teriyaki sauce. It was thicker than normal and overly sweet.I was surprised a small place that has their hands dipped in everything may not be as good but I was wrong. The service was wonderful. You order and pay first before you sit. Sunshine Kitchen is on our list to return if we need to dodge traffic again.4.5 stars, bumping to a 5
Matsu
626 S Tremont St, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
What originally launched as a pop-up restaurant has now opened as Oceansides first fine dining restaurant. I had the pleasure of attending opening night and was impressed. This contemporary Japanese restaurant was exceptional. Make you reservations now, as this restaurant will soon be on a several months waiting list. The tasting menu, with a la carte options, was divine. The presentation, the flavors, the integration and combination of ingredients, and quality of food was outstanding! Theres a nice selection of sake, wine, and interesting cocktails. The most exceptional item on the menu was their A5 Japanese Wagyu, with a BMS rating of 12! Yes, thats right, 12! What that translates to is the absolute highest rated, most exquisite and rare beef in the world. This dish was the most phenomenal piece of meat butter Ive had the pleasure of eating. My second favorite was the pork belly. The fried curry leaves, tart cherries, and parsnips paired exceptionally well with pork belly and made for an indulgence of blissful flavor in every bite.Additionally, the service was perhaps the best Ive experienced in the San Diego metro. Every employee we interacted with was exceptional. Our server, Joe, did a impressive job of describing the menu and was impeccable throughout the evening.Chef William Eick and the entire team at Matsu did a phenomenal job. This restaurant will be knocking on Michelins door for well deserved recognition.
Harney Oceanside & Lounge
301 Mission Ave, Oceanside, CA 92054, United States
QUICK SCOOP: Average sushi, masked as awesome sushi by special dipping sauces. Restaurant is nice, service is slow, but friendly. Bottomline though, look elsewhere; $19-$20 specialty rolls are on par w/ $9-$10 specialty rolls in other sushi joints. If you really want the sauce, buy your own and get more sushi for your money elsewhere. The SERVICE:First time at Harney Sushi, no plans to go back. Since this place was listed #1 in Oceanside, we decided to check it out. I ordered ahead to-go based on reviews that service was slow. We were told 25 minutes until the order was ready; arrived after about 35 minutes, after struggling to find parking over a busy Labor Day weekend crowd. Order was ready after about an hour, and it spent another 20 minutes sitting on a counter while someone got around to letting us know the order was ready and then processing payment, but that was fine, we were excited about the hyped up sushi. The FOOD:We used reviews to pick out the most popular rolls. Surprisingly, many of the popular rolls have IMITATION CRAB (that should have been the first clue); we prefer to have legit sushi, especially at $19-$20/roll (most weve ever paid for sushi anywhere in the world weve had sushi)...I figured these rolls must be great! We also ordered the Monkey Brains (that sounded fun) based on some reviews. Many reviews kept mentioning pairing sauces (that was another clue) for each specialty roll; I love a good tasty sauce. Its only a 5 minute drive home, but it was too late, the Monkey Brains appetizer was cold (cooked fish...cold; not so good), but no worries, we bought (6) specialty rolls, and every single one came with either (1) or (2) containers of sauce (clue w/ flashing lights), probably why the rolls cost so much. Surprisingly, with so many rolls, we only received about 1/4 tsp of wasabi and a few packets of soy sauce. The sushi looked pretty standard to what weve seen before in average sushi places, then it finally made sense why ratings were so high; folks rely on the special sauces like ponzu and goyza sauce to add flavor to the sushi. It made sense after recalling a reviewer who was excited to get their favorite roll (Orange Crush) after not having it for over a year, only to find no ponzu sauce, and a huge let-down on flavor...because she relied so heavily on the sauce to make the roll taste better. A good roll should taste well on its own; you shouldnt have to dip it in a sugary or spicy sauce to mask the flavor with something that tastes better. I thought it would be fun to try them in different sauces, but after comparing the taste of each roll in soy sauce vs these special sauces, it was apparent the sauce was doing most of the heavy lifting on flavor. It reminded me of spicing up not-so-tasty veggies with sauces to make them more edible. Lastly, the amount of rice used was on par w/ low-budget sushi places. For $20/roll, half the roll should not be rice and fillers; you pay more for fish, not rice. The RESTAURANT:The restaurant did look nice inside from what I could see and the area outside was also nice, but ultimately, we just wanted good sushi.
Sushi 4 Reel
4750 Oceanside Blvd #A20, Oceanside, CA 92056, United States
If youre someone who has been eating sushi your whole life or are avid about the entire experience, you may not enjoy Sushi 4 Reel. The pictures online may be a bit deceiving as it is a very small place and doesnt have the feel youd expect from a Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere didnt lack friendliness, but instead felt unwelcoming. Walking into the restaurant, we werent directed whether we were seated by the waiter/waitress or if we could seat ourselves. Alongside this, we didnt receive a greeting when we entered nor a goodbye and thanks when leaving. The quality of the fish is mediocre, not bad, not great. It didnt taste fresh, as youd expect from a restaurant being so close to the coast and major port cities in southern California. Its not something that is noticeable off the bat, but the more you eat the more youll realize it. The issue with this isnt just that it should be better quality for the area, but the pricing as well. $13+ for base special rolls, going up to $20~ is a bit ridiculous, and their happy hour isnt much of a deal at all besides maybe the alcohol. Furthermore, a fair amount of rolls seemed made up without keeping taste in mind -- weird combinations that arent authentic Japanese. Some smaller details are the taste of the water isnt good if youre the type of person that is specific about it. It tastes like tap water filtered through ice you use for coolers. Another issue was tables were missing their chopsticks, napkins, and soy sauce bowls. It wouldnt be that big of a deal, but I only saw the waitress twice (besides when asking for the check), so when we got our food, by the time I looked for the chopsticks, the waitress was gone, so I had to find spare ones on another table. Some positive things are that when interacting with the employees, they were nice. The food didnt take too long to come out either. Yet my favorite part was the art on the walls. In conclusion, Sushi 4 Reel is an alright place to stop by for sushi if youre looking for a quick bite and dont require better quality food and atmosphere.
