Mee Heng Low Noodle House
815 Palm St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
Stopped by for a takeout chow mein order. A noodle shop with bland, pathetic noodles, little bit of chicken, and all for $20. What a waste of time. The original family of the establishment would be appalled.

Bings Bao Buns
3845 S Higuera St Suite 108, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
Brillant Bao-mongers Blast-open the Buniverse! The local Buniverse will never ever be the same since the Bings are here. This charming Mom & Pop & two little Kid-uns super-team are just what the cultural wasteland of the Central Coast needed.I literally have eaten Buns & all kinds of Dim Sum thousands of times, all through the USA, Europe, Asia, & Hawaii....and have yet to have anything close to Bings Baos.I will now never look at a Dim Sum Food Cart with envy for pedestrian Buns, since the Bing Family has ruined me for life. The Mushroom Baos were Bursting with savory Chai Sui yumminess, that one cannot find on any cart that I know of. The filling to dough ratio was beyond anything I have dreamed of before, and they must have modeled them on ambrosial versions found in the heavens.Originally, I was going to go for the pork version, but apparently, it would have taken more than an hour for a new batch. The owner was wonderful & offered to give my money back or switch to the Vege Bun.Since I read every Facebook post from the Bings for the past several years, there was no way, I was walking out without trying some Buns.So while I waited to get eats from two next door vendors, namely Bahts great Curry & CCCs wonderful stinky Cheeses, I also waited for the Buns to be.Yes, one may have to deal with a wait, or even lines, or even a sold-out situation, but it is all well worth the wait. Once you sink your jaws into a succulent Bings Bun, all is OK with the darned world. This hardworking Mom & Pop, went from selling Buns from the home to running this start-up business, while raising two little Bings, & working two other jobs...so please applaud their can-do attitude, especially in these times. The mom hails from NJ, right near where I grew up in the Big Apple. Both Mom & Pop missed great Dim Sum-type eats in the Central Coast and decided a few years back to actually do something about it. Amazingly, despite being new at this Bun-fabrication, they somehow made major advances along the way.It may even make you forget we have a Pandemic or even a pending Apocalypse!Dont worry, look up...there are Bings Bao Buns...Yes, they are that amazing.
COYA Peruvian food
1401 Osos St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
Amazingly authentic and delicious Peruvian food freshly cooked by the owner, who was born in Peru. I knew it was going to be good when I walked into the Sidewalk Market (COYA is located inside) and saw an assortment of Peruvian food items I had only seen before in Peru; the owner imports them to make sure the food is the real deal with the real spices. My first bite of the lomo saltado (like a beef stir fry, classic Peruvian dish) transported me to my time living in the country. The owner is incredibly friendly, the prices are cheap for what you get, and the service fast. I cant wait to try more dishes. Highly recommended for a breakfast, lunch, or dinner to picnic in Mitchell Park or take wherever youre going!

Nautical Bean
11560 Los Osos Valley Rd #150, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405, United States
Nautical BeanPROS:+ Great for working!+ Plenty of outlets available for charging devices+ Friendly and welcoming service!+ The patrons seem to be made up of regulars who frequent this place often+ Fun and colorful decor -- hammerhead shark, Elvis portrait, skateboards, and local art.+ Laidback, chill vibe+ Good playlist+ Fun menu with lots of drink options and healthy food options. Their House Drink menu looks interesting and unique+ Cabbage & Chicken Salad is fresh and large, but the dressing is a little bland. Also, the ramen noodles are an odd touch+ Tuna Melt tastes fresh and healthy. Not greasy like most melts Ive tried. The side of cabbage slaw is very underwhelming. Overall, the food is just okay.+ Super easy parking+ Convenient location by lots of shopping and eateries.+ Nice outdoor seating+ Good wifi+ They offer sippy lids now to replace the use of strawsCONS:- A little on the dim side. Other than that, everything else is perfect. Love this spot!
Oki Kohi Espresso Bar
2252 Broad St Ste 130, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
2023 UPDATE -Oki Momo is not dead, much of that amazingness just moved across the parking lot to Oki Kohi and its even better than Oki Momo was.... Shhhhh tell everyone! Also if you live in LoBro and dont know theres respectable espresso available to you right outside your front door, what are you doing with your life?New items such as the Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodle Stew, a whole host of curry and noodle dishes, lots of veg/vegan options (YES the Oki Momo wings are still here) and in general what I feel are higher quality SE Asian inspired dishes at a fair price are all here. Plus good coffee! Please give this place a try, this is one of SLOs treasures.--Original review from 2021:When times are tough, I really respect the people who in those times choose to be the most daring, the most innovative. We have a little bit of that going on here. First, Anna is a class act. Full Stop. One time I got cut off on hold to put a pick-up order in at Oki Momo, she called me back and apologized. One time an order took too long because they got slammed at dinner, she gave my wife a free desert. This place makes it right before you ever have to ask them to. Everyone who works in these places is awesome and deserves our support.Oki Kohi now extends the amazingness of Oki Momo a whole 15 steps across the street to reliable coffee spot that serves a good bit of the surrounding neighborhoods and nearby condos but also offers an extended variety of Dim Sum style fare. Think Asian small plates like dumplings, meat filled buns, rice dishes, noodles and puff pastries. Something small but very filling that will get you through the day, especially in the AM. Its a welcome alternative to the western bacon and eggs breakfast paradigm. In true Oki Momo excellence, the dishes did not disappoint. First the coffee is definitely on point. Full espresso service here. The Iced Americano was smooth and balanced without being weak or watered down. Oki Momo thinks about Vegans and vegetarians, thus offering many of these dishes in Vegan alternatives. That said, The Beef Curry Puff Pastry (which again, can be vegan) was STELLAR, that brought me right back to a China Trip. The Bao Buns were just as I remember them as well. Considering Asian breakfasts are BY FAR my favorite breakfasts, I think its safe to say Ill be back. Im going for the noodles next! Thanks Oki Momo / Oki Kohi for making SLO awesome. This Oki Momo / Oki Kohi group is easily one of the top three places I always recommend people go.
Novo
726 Higuera St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
Came all the way from Los Angeles for work and wanted to find a place with great food and atmosphere before heading back, happy to say we definitely found it with Novo. The restaurant and food were amazing. Our server AJ definitely helped with great recommendations and giving us plenty of time to choose and enjoy the atmosphere. We were served delicious sparkling water to drink while looking through the menu.I started my evening with the Blueberry sage Mule & my girlfriend tried the strawberry martini. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps as the appetizer with the Novo soup of the day for myself and the salmon bisque for her. These were absolutely delicious. For our main course we both had the filet mignon, mine (medium) with potatoes and the recommended black rice, she had (medium well) potatoes and baby carrots.Even after all those delectably astounding dishes, we decided to end the night with the Raspberry creme brulee. I know for sure it was a perfect dessert as my gf only gave me one to two tries before she happily finished. We both were in agreement that this had to be the best meal we had in years and are definitely going to come back for special dates & anniversaries.
Slo Asian Market
1255 Monterey St # C, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
I went to the market to buy $100 worth of goods (with ebt) that can only be found in that store within a thirty-mile or more radius (unfortunately), and, while I love to support small, local businesses, the lady who works there half the time is always unbelievably rude. She asked my friend and I if we wanted a bag to which we said yes because my friend only brought her tote and $100 worth of stuff is more than four hands and a small tote can carry. We pay and then my friend starts putting things in her bag, so this cashier lady says she can do it instead. My friend replies, “no, thanks. I can do it.” Immediately, this woman looks irritated, so she says again, more firmly, “No, really, I can bag it,” not realizing that this is like offering someone to put their groceries into their purse for them. When my friend, once again, says no thanks, because why would her answer have changed since the last time, this person pulls out their phone and takes a picture of the security camera with us at the cashier as if we didn't just buy $100 worth of stuff. And when we ask for the bag we previously asked for, she says it's 10¢. I pull out my card, but she says we needed to have made a $10 to pay with card, and we paid with ebt, which normally waives the need to pay for the bag. I am scrounging for pennies, asking other people in line if they have anything. This cashier stands there, waiting patiently like she wasn't trying to rush us away before so the line could keep moving. And so we grab all our stuff by hand, and this woman doesn't ask of we'd like our receipt, which is the ideal way to check one's ebt balance, if you don't know. The only reason I even noticed the missing receipt is because our friend was in line behind us, and she also paid with ebt, and was asked if she'd like a receipt. The point is, this person is always rude when we come to the store, and I've heard similar things from other friends. I understand that we live in a college town with a PWI, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable to treat every single student who may just be trying to get an education and eat red bean buns like they're going to steal the entire inventory. I would go somewhere else if there was somewhere else to go because it's often a bad experience.
TASTE craft eatery
2550 Broad St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
I hate to make this about race but Ive been here before with another more fitting (I suppose) group and the service and attitude was very different than what i describe in the experience below.I came on a busy Saturday evening with a group of 9 without a reservation. We knew there would be a wait... they told us an hour. we waited patiently but when after 70 minutes I asked the hostess if theres an update she rudely said whenever you see people leave is when youll be seatedAfter another 20 minutes they told us they couldnt sit us all together and could sit us at two tables... we agreed as we were hungry. The staff was so rushed they barely had time to take our order and seemed bothered by the fact that my guests didnt speak English and I was translating for them ( I guess theyre not used to /dont like serving diverse people of color)... then the check came and they had charged 2 of one item. When I brought this up to the woman who came to pick up the check (same hostess) she rudely said im sure its right but Ill check with your waiter then came back saying the waiter said we had two... I again said we had one and she said shed take it off as if she was doing me a favor. Then when she brought the new check she had added a 20% gratuity for large party... even though our party was split up... at this point I was so done with her I just paid and we left... I regret not speaking up though bc then they think its ok to be like this... hence the review.
Brasserie SLO
1119 Garden St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, United States
Had a wonderful dinner with the family here. Very nice wine selection to go along with the good starter offerings. Oysters were very nice start, which Max said were from Baja. I have always had PNW, NorCal, or New England varieties. These were delightful! Followed with the brie, which devoured in 3 minutes. Worth the wait. It is suited for two so order more than one for three or more people. My wife had a very well prepared martini and a Cesars salad was shared. Nice touch with pickled purple onions. Mains were pasta, lamb, and the chefs cut steak. The Lamb was very tender and delicious. The lamb sausage is like a semi spicy kofta. My wife had the steak which was lean and cooked perfectly per her order. The accompanying mushrooms and sauce did not overwhelm the beef, which is how we like it. I didnt get a chance to taste the pasta, but my daughter ate it all. We shared a carafe of Tablas Creek white blend. Dont know what the corkage fee is, probably should inquire since there are wineries all over the place. Finished with coffee and desserts. Coffee was nice and thankfully very hot! Dont know why so many restaurants serve semi hot coffee. Overall nice atmosphere. We dined outside which was helped by the cool summer evening. Inside was gorgeous, with a beautiful bar. We all commented on the modern but comfortable french bistro chairs. Very nice touch. I will return to try the beef bourguignon or octopus. Finally our server Max did a great job pacing the orders and answered all the questions on the menu. There is street parking, but if you know this town, its good to know the several parking garages nearby. I do reccomend reservations, which we made 45 minutes prior. We were pleasantly surprised by this place, having just arrived in town and picked it almost randomly.
