Hinoki & the Bird
10 W Century Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90067, United States
I went to Hinoki & The Bird last night with a party of 6 for Dine LA. It was an exceptional experience. We were mourning the loss of a beloved pet and it was our first night going out, a celebration of life. We ordered one of everything on the Dine LA menu (except the mushrooms and octopus, which they were out of) and we doubled up on the lobster roll and bucatini. The vibe of this restaurant is impeccable. Their patio existed before covid and thus feels like a beautiful escape from the world - it is nothing like the thrown together sidewalk settings elsewhere. Large comfortable seats, greenery surrounding absolutely everything, and lily-shaped lights hanging overhead make this patio one of the most delightful outdoor dining spaces I've been to in Los Angeles. We ordered every cocktail except for the negroni. The Manhattan in particular was a big hit with the table. The bee sting was quirky and had a bright kick of spice. The final flight was strong and almost tangerine-like; our summertime backyards would be made better with the addition of this drink. The lotus margarita was a safe and yummy choice. My personal favorite was the monsoon, which had the perfect amount of ginger and rosemary - it vaguely resembled a lemon drop candy. We had after dinner espressos and I enjoyed a well-balanced espresso martini. As far as food, we were all very pleased with the variety of the menu, the speed of service and presentation, and (most importantly) the food itself. The lobster rolls, with lobster served over a soft black bread, were a wonderful start to the meal. The spiced nuts in the kale salad gave extra oomph to what would otherwise be a standard dish. We grow heirloom tomatoes in our own garden and the ones served with toast and gazpacho were as fresh and flavorful as ones from our own vines. I wish I'd had the chance to try the sashimi, but my friends snatched up each piece so quickly that I can only take their word for it - it was apparently delicious. You MUST order the fried chicken and bucatini. The chicken is breaded and cooked to perfection and the buttery bucatini is excellent alongside the NY strip or pork chop. For a delicious instagrammable dish, order the salmon and/or black cod - they are beautifully plated and are flaky and flavorful. We did not order dessert - but we will next time. The manager, Conrad, chatted with us at our table a couple of times throughout the evening and he was a very gracious host who is clearly invested in the quality of the restaurant. He asked what he could do to make our experience even better, shared laughs with us, and made us feel entirely welcome. We know that Hinoki & The Bird is in good hands with him.Our table shared many giggles and a few tears for our beloved dog and we deeply enjoyed our meal and experience - it was a beautiful and intimate dinner party. We live five minutes down the road and this was our first visit - even once Dine LA has ended, we will certainly return for the wonderful food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. Thank you Hinoki & The Bird and thank you Conrad.
Sushi Kura

So I ordered from this restaurant through postmates, thinking that a high rating would mean good quality. One of my items never even made it into my order, and the restaurant never called to say it was unavailable prior to delivery, but I was still charged. I ordered a tiger roll, which I received, and it looked great when I opened the box. I took one bite and pulled out a piece of plastic that was mixed in with the crab. I looked throughout the roll and found TWO MORE PIECES OF PLASTIC. I attempted to call the restaurant and report this issue to the restaurant, and the restaurant said that because it was delivered through postmates, that the plastic “must have been from the driver driving roughly”. I told them the sushi roll and all of my food had been undisturbed, meaning that the plastic had been incorporated into the sushi during food preparation. The lady on the phone stated “well what would you like me to do about that?” I told her I'd like a refund, as the food posed serious safety and cleanliness risks. She told me that only postmates could help me and that the restaurant was not responsible. She never ONCE even offered to have my missing item replaced or to re-make the order. If I could rate negative stars, I would. I would advise against eating here with the safety risk and lack of customer service.
Sung Sho Gun Sushi

Disclaimer: I was not given incentive or benefit in any form whatsoever to write this review. This review is written from my personal experience and perspective from my visit to the restaurant as a paying customer.First things first, this spot is under new ownership as of Oct 19. Upon a single glance, the prices are quite reasonable for a sushi restaurant and the menu has a new nicely balanced mix of fresh contemporary and classic dishes. The appetizers are absolutely amazing. You get an entire experience from the start. This is a spot for any crowd or crew that appreciates high quality sushi. Regardless your age, gender or ethnic group, if you enjoy sushi, this place is definitely worth your time and money. The service is also top notch. The staff will take your order quite promptly and will bring out your starting side dishes nearly as soon. They will also clear all empty and unused bowls and trash out of the way in an as undisruptive manner as possible upon request or upon their discretion. The fish quality is just out of this world. They are all incredibly fresh and have that melt-in-your-mouth quality that avid sushi consumers crave and seek. The soba is definitely worth a try for those who love cold noodles. The noodles are cooked to perfection and presentation is also nice. The dipping sauce/soup for the noodles is very delicious and refreshing as well. Also the flavor is different (and in my opinion, better) than the generic store-bought type of dipping sauce/soup that you find every other sushi restaurant using for their soba. For those of you who read up to this point, you read this long for a reason and i hope this review gave you a reason to visit New Sho Gun Sushi. You wont regret it. My family and i loved our dining experience here.

Overall enjoyable dining experience. We had a wonderful server Celine who provided us with accurate and valuable menu and drink information. This was my husbands first time trying Sushi and he really enjoyed the Philly Rolls and flavour of the Rainbow Rolls. I was just craving familiar comfort food so ordered Chicken Kung Pow and Fried Chicken Rice with Tempura Vegetables. Generous portion sizes, reasonable prices. The item sizes within the meals were quite large and Im not as proficient with chopsticks as Id like to be so I struggled a little without a knife to cut them into more manageable sizes (and Im a bit clumsy). A variety of couples, friends and families with children eating while we were there. Very relaxed atmosphere, definitely felt comfortable. Clean and very fast service. The Lychee Martini is delicious! Didnt have room for dessert but will be going back so maybe then. There is Parking available with the option to validate. As the sun was setting it made for nice scenery looking out the window towards the hillside. Convenient location and you can combine with a shopping trip to Trader Joes and or the drugstore and others in the complex. Music was a mix and it was a fun and unexpected surprise to hear Barry Manilows Copacabana. I wasnt alone in this as I could hear other nearby patrons humming and quietly singing along. I recommend eating here!

Pretty decent vegan options for lunch and dinner however breakfast is WASTE OF TIME!!! The only thing to eat are hashbrowns, apples and oranges and, as they suggest, peanut butter. Theres actually a plan thats put in place for people with a special diet in these situations. Per their policy, the chef is supposed to cook u a meal. I know this to be true because Ive worked these programs before; however, the only person on the manag team that adheres to this policy Robert. Everyone else will avoid you. I dont ask anymore. However, I must add that the staff is absolutely warm and friendly. Is what it is for breakfast.Below are pics of the only vegan options for breakfast.
SongHak Korean BBQ - Koreatown
356 S Western Ave #201, Los Angeles, CA 90020, United States
I usually dont leave reviews, but Im leaving it for the boss to see.The food was just ok, but the manager, a young man with absolutely no training, came to the customers table and started to criticize us for not even allowing dogs to be served. I had already asked other employees and while I was visiting, he suddenly started criticizing me like that in the middle of my meal. You dont have any, and you openly yell at an older employee in front of customers for disciplining other employees. Does this store hire its managers off the street without even interviewing them?He was scolding us so much that he burned all the meat. I was so dumbfounded that I quietly told him that I was uncomfortable with such an attitude in front of the guests, and he apologized in a vain manner, so it was okay, right? If you dont like it, dont come? Anyway, the food wasnt worth coming back to, and it looks like its not going to be a good business if you train your employees that way. I felt sorry for another employee and asked him about it. He said he was like that, but I felt sorry for everyone so I gave him a separate tip. This is my first time in my life at a restaurant like this.

They were attentive, accommodating, and their love for authentic Yucatecan cuisine and vegan creativity was evident in every interaction. They catered our party last night with a menu thats a love letter to Yucatecan traditions, finessed with a modern vegan twist. We fed ~30 people. Accommodating food allergies (gluten, nuts, etc.) was easy.We got an array of tacos - Murica, Spicy Beach, and No Stas Cochinita, and found that taco was a conversation starter. Everyone had different opinions about which one they loved most and why.The codzitos and esquites side packs we a perfect addition. The blueberry jamaica auga fresca was delightful on its own, and made an amazing mixer for tequila too.The pastelitos we got for dessert were a gentle sweet closure to a vibrant meal, embodying the tender essence of Yucatecan sweets.Hijo de su Madre is not merely a restaurant and catering service; its an invitation to a memorable culinary adventure that honors both veganism and Yucatecan heritage. Tea Master Matcha Cafe and Green Tea Shop
450 E 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA 90012, United States
I tried the soft serve green tea ice cream to go and loved it so much I went back for a second one. The second one was a noticeably smaller serving. When I asked for the same size serving as I had received the first time I received dumb looks and stupid stares. At first they were going to try and not serve me but finally did without increasing the serving to match what I was served the first time earlier that same day. This happened about a month and a half ago. This is located in Little Tokyo and almost all of their clientele seem to be Japanese. I need to see if Pinkberry still serves almost the same soft se be with matcha powder.Update:Today I was going to order two of the soft serve to go and I asked for some water with ice (as the person is putting ice into a glass). I was refused the water with ice. I was told I could have room temperature water or purchase cold water for $2.00I said “so you are telling me that you will not serve me a courtesy water with ice?” as Im looking right at the ice she had been putting into a glass. When I said that I will be sure to share my experience that I have experienced here today, the man behind counter told me they would not serve me and he asked me to leave. A (Japanese) man in his early twenties (a customer it turns out) started telling me, in a very hostile tone, to leave and that I was bothering him because Im asking the proprietor why they could not give me a courtesy cup of water with ice. I was there to purchase two servings of soft serve to go. What an impression they have left me with. I was also told that I could go to Starbucks and they would give me ice water. I wonder if my being a Caucasian man had anything to do with why I was treated so poorly.Recent update:On my recent visit I received excellent service and the matcha soft serve was good as ever. Based on this visit I am restoring this to a full five stars.
