Eriks DeliCaf
1664 Soquel Dr, Santa Cruz, CA 95065, United States
I came into this restaurant at 5 pm on Monday, 12/6, intending to purchase over $25 food. The order taker, a rude early 20s white guy, who refused to give me his name, came up with his mask barely covering his upper lip. I asked him several times to put his mask on properly to protect us both and to comply with law. He refused, arguing he was a healthy individual, had been vaccinated, he flat out refused, dismissed me saying he had better things to do, including taking out the trash.I have never been treated rudely at this restaurant before, though I have been here often snd spent a lot of money here.P.S. He's also the guy preparing your food!!Is this acceptable to management????Second p.s. in case anyone believed management was the least bit concerned except about a bad review describing them violating the law...nope, no one has contacted me to follow up.

Gobi Mongolian BBQ
1308 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, United States
For dinner its not all you can eat (contrary to literally every other Mongolian BBQ place), they charge you more to press down on the meat. Yes, you read that correctly, they charged me $6 to press down on the meat, so I could put more in the bowl. Ive never heard of this practice and is the cause of my not coming back. The service was poor, we had to wait to pay, and the staff seemed less than interested (the main host was on his phone and then went outside to stare at women walking by. . . gross).I think most of the issues with this place can be forgiven, except for charging $6 more for pressing down meat, especially during dinner service. I would go so far as to recommend driving to San Jose for Mongolian BBQ if you have the craving- I dont want to support this business practices.edit: The value just doesnt seem to be there; for reference, most other Mongolian BBQ places will charge you the same price or less for all you eat.

Vim Dining and Desserts
2238 Mission St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, United States
We were able to book a reservation for my 72 birthday. Everything was fantastic. Words can’t describe all the variety of flavors in each dish. A sumptuous feast.Since moving to Santa Cruz from Berkeley I’ve had yet to find a local restaurant which could match any in the gourmet ghetto of North Berkeley or the Rockridge area until tonight.First bite was heaven. We had the pork tenderloin, lasagna, fish and filet mignon.First course the mushroom soup Devine first to last spoonful. We each shared a taste of a friends dish . Desert was shared . Chocolate cake light and fluffy. Cheesecake never so good wuth the butter and pecan sauce. My birthday chocolate cupcake was chocolate lava in the center, so rich . Wine selection was well rounded. We will be back after I digest for a few days. Thanks for a fantastic evening Vim.

Far West Fungi
224 Laurel St Suite A101, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, United States
A fabulous all vegetarian restaurant with a couple of vegan options.I ordered the mushroom Zuppa soup and was blown away by how flavorful it was! There’s some serious black magic going on that makes that broth so amazing- apparently a house mushroom blend. The meatballs were also pretty great (also made from mushrooms). My partner had the truffle grilled cheese which was excellent, but could have been a bit more salty. For drinks, we had the berry kombucha and the spruce lemonade, both of which were excellent!Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town- they also sell fresh mushrooms, some of which are hard to buy elsewhere!

Bedda Mia
736 Water St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, United States
What a fantastic new Italian addition to the neighborhood! Well go again and again. Highly recommend! My husband and I went to Bedda Mia for the first time for dinner on a Monday, which was very convenient as so many restaurants are only open W-Sat for dinner. We had 6:30pm reservations, showed up 10 minutes early, were greeted so warmly and seated right away. We chose to sit outside since it was a nice day. Plenty of tables outside to suit you.Our server was Maddie and she was incredibly prompt, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu, drinks, and specials. Had a great personality, and even dealt with a less than friendly person with poise and kindness. 5 stars for Maddie!!We ordered the onion soup as an appetizer and oh wow. Well definitely be ordering that again, especially in the cooler months. It was smooth, aromatic, warming, and had many layers of flavor. Its not a French onion soup even though it comes with a fontina smothered crostini. Its so much more than that. ☺️My husband ordered the Chicken Cotoletta alla Milanese. And holy Moses. Was it incredible! Its lightly breaded, pounded flat, cooked to a beautiful golden color - and STILL so tender and juicy. Take advantage of the roasted onions and peppers that come with it, its a wonderful flavor combination. The potato fries that come with it arent your normal fries. They are thinly sliced, airy, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. This dish is a winner!I got the Trofie Pesto pasta and added chicken. This dish... Im so glad the servings are so large because I had enough for lunch the next day and got to experience it twice. The pasta, perfect texture. Pesto, gorgeous. The tomatoes and sliced almonds add texture and depth to the dish. And of course, the chicken was perfectly tender and flavorful. This chef is working with magic, Im telling you!The check came out fast after it was requested, and they even have a super convenient option to pay for the check online from your phone. That was a nice surprise! All in all, excellent food, outstanding service, and I cant wait to see and eat whats next at this new restaurant!

Beach Hut Deli
381 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, United States
I went to Beach Hut yesterdayon 10/07/2023. I wanted to like this place because my friends said that the Sandwiches were amazing...but my very first order was TERRIBLE. I live across town from this place so it takes 10-15 to get there...... so 3 of us placed our orders at the same time 5:58pm. Got a text acknowledgement from toast and then on the Web site the order tracker said it would be ready at 6:18pm. 1st person, a salad and a sandwich, 2nd person two sandwiches and a nacho, 3rd person 2 sandwich. When we got there a few min. Before the estimated ready time, nothing was done yet, so we went next door to the liquor store bought a lot of cold drinks and headed back over. 1st person was done when we got back so us other 2, we waited. At 6:35pm number 2 was ready.(He had Nachos) At 6:45 I asked about my order and the Sandwich maker said they were busy. At 6:53 they called my name and I got a text from toast right after and for the inconvenience he said I could have a bag of chips. I was upset but willing to let it ride. We get back to the house....person number 1 was done correctly, Person number 2..Nachos were soggy due to the long wait and his Daughters Ham sandwich which was supposed to be ham, lettuce and Avo had ONLY Ham and mayo. Person number 3 (me) I ordered the sandwich with jalapeno as well as with the veggies that were described in the app. I got no Jalapenos or the Italian peppers. 2nd Sandwich had no pickles. Seem like small problems but...If we have to wait almost a full hour for Sandwiches, we should have got our order correctly. We have many sandwich places to go to, but we chose the Beach Hut. I understand that sometimes things happen but It was just very frustrating and very time consuming. Maybe the when it will be ready needs to be adjusted or an extra person helping or ??? I saw other people in the back but none made it to the front end except one girl. The Sandwich I had was really good, I just didnt have what I asked for AND I waited a little shy of 1 hour. Not sure I will return.

The Midway
1209 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, United States
Decided to check out The Midway with two of my friends after hearing plenty of good things about the place. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, a real blend of small town diner and classy restaurant flair that made it SO apparent that whoever designed the place knew what they were doing and really cared about creating a wonderful atmosphere. The service was spectacular, quick, and incredibly polite and we barely had to wait for our food. I got the braised pork shoulder which tasted divine, my friends got the pancakes and the housemade yogurt. The pancakes were delightful and the housemade yogurt was genuinely the best yogurt Id ever tried- I didnt realize something as simple as yogurt could taste so good (especially with the homemade jam). Was a bit pricey for three broke college students to afford (definitely a splurge meal for us), but the food was worth the money 100% so I dont regret it. My only complaint is that the place has relatively limited hours which is a shame, but from what I can tell the place is pretty new so the limited hours make sense. Highly recommend going if you want some homemade, high quality food where you can tell the restaurant owner and the staff really care about making good stuff.

The Hollins House Weddings & Events
20 Clubhouse Rd, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, United States
We found Hollins House through The Knot and fell in love with it when we toured. After that, we compared every venue we toured to Hollins, and took a second tour before finally committing to it. We are so glad we chose Hollins House for our wedding venue! We loved the look of the space, from the elegant ballroom to the breathtaking view. The space was large enough without feeling empty with a smaller party. We also loved the flow of the space for our ceremony and reception. No trapsing back and forth through multiple floors or side of the space, just a simple counterclockwise flow throughout the event.Giselle, the venues coordinator, was amazing. She knows her stuff and was super helpful throughout the entire process. When we came to the rehearsal, she directed everything perfectly and made me feel even more confident that I was in good hands for my wedding day. On the day of, she made everything super easy for me and kept everything moving along without a (visible) hitch. For example, I found out the next day that our best man forgot the rings at the hotel (thankfully only minutes away!) and had to run and get them right before we started the ceremony. Giselle sheltered my (brides) side from that info, which Im very grateful for because I definitely would have panicked. Instead I felt calm knowing everything was under the control of Giselles capable leadership. Our guests have been raving ever since the big day about how perfect everything was. Weve been told by many of our parents generation that we have set the bar way too high for the others in our generation and that no one will be able to compete with our wedding (we are both the oldest kids of our families and 1st to marry). The perfection and magic of our wedding was, in a large part, due to Hollins House, Giselle, and the rest of its staff. The food and drinks were so delicious and well made. The service from the staff was exceptional.I honestly cant say enough great things, and there isnt anything that I can say needs improvement or was a negative. We are both so happy with Hollins House and would highly recommend them for anyone hosting a wedding or event and looking for this style of venue.
