Kemuri Japanese Bar
2616 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Can’t say enough GREAT THINGS about this place. It’s one of the best things about Redwood City and one of the best restaurants — ever! On the Peninsula from Burlingame to Los Altos you won’t find more inventive and exciting not just Japanese Baru or Japanese but dare I say Asian or Bistro. Yaki Oki Benedict is amazing. Drinks and sake selection amazing. Specials amazing. Ambience excellent. You will not be disappointed here.

Higuma Japanese Restaurant
540 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Higuma is traditional Japanese style sushi. A lotta sushi restaurant used a lotta sauce in sushi and result sweeter taste which I dont like. Higumas sushi is simple taste fish taste. Let the fresh fish speak for itself. Rice cooks to perfection. Another tip- Pay extra for real fresh wasabi. I can say they are one of the best sushi restaurant in San Carlos/redwood City .

Hikari Sushi & grill

Excellent quality fish. The deluxe chirashi bowl is worth it. It reminds me of the food in Japan. This place so much better than some of the quantity over quality Japanese restaurants in Redwood City.Im not sure what Vidya is talking about regarding the service. All the staff seemed very friendly and the food arrived promptly.

Sushi Shin
312 Arguello St, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
This is one of those “not-to-be-missed” opportunities! It was highly recommended by our daughter so we decided to try it. And, oh, my goodness: it was beyond incredible! The restaurant itself is a hidden gem in Redwood City. It has seating for 10 people in what appears to be a traditional, immaculately clean, elegant yet simple Japanese counter setting. This means that everyone is able to see Executive Chef Jason and his sous-chef(s) as they prepare an amazing dining experience. Every detail of every course of this prix fixe dinner (mostly fish) feels like it has been choreographed. Every serving is prepared in front for all to see and explained in detail including sourcing, preparation, and accompaniments. The ingredients are so fresh and the unique preparations truly enhance and enrich the distinct flavors. Just when I thought the dinner was nearing completion, I was amazed when I was told that the appetizer course was finished and the main course was next! The entire dining experience is about 2.5 hours and worth every minute and every morsel! It is THE best!

Oh Baby Sushi
2139 Roosevelt Ave, Redwood City, CA 94061, United States
The food is excellent but the service is inexcusably slow. There was almost an hour between when some of our party was brought their food and others got theirs. There was no warning whatsoever that certain dishes took longer to prepare. Theyve also reduced their portion size and increased their prices. The food quality is excellent, so they could have justified this move if their service was up to par. Sticking with Little Madfish and other local Japanese restaurants.

AhiSushi Hibachi
1784 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
After visiting the place, im much confused by the overall rating. From every aspect, environment, sashimi quality and dishes, its pretty clear to be just an ok-ish Japanese restaurant. To be honest, the portion is smaller than restaurants in the area and price is pretty high - although the menu itself looks cheap. If you want to order regular sushi combo, it costs 22+. There are several restaurants in downtown redwood much better than this one and I think 3 stars is more than fair.

Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi
2198 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
We come to Sakura a lot, and generally speaking, I really like this place. Tonight's experience was awful customer service wise.First thing that was odd was each ordered a fried rice- and one was at least 1/3 bigger. See picture. (And my friend had already eaten a lot of her when I took it). Not a big deal to me though.Normally we sit in the hibachi tables, but today we decided to sit on the other side because we didn't want hibachi. The service was very slow, still, not a big deal. My friend ordered two rolls and a fried rice. I ordered a salad, beef nigiri and a fried rice. We waited at least 30 minutes for anything to arrive. They brought out my friends rolls first. She tried to wait for one of my items to come out to start eating but was starving. After another 15 minutes of waiting I asked the waiter if he could check on any of my food, at least bring the little salad. He didn't come back for another 10 minutes, then finally came out with my salad, and then shortly after our rices. At this point my friend was pretty much done with her meal and I still hadn't gotten my main. I again asked the waiter to check on my nigiri. He said barely said ok, then went back to what he was doing (didn't see him check anything) waited another 10 mins and asked again. Still nothing. He then came back 5 minutes later with our bill. I said I still haven't gotten my food?? And he took the bill and walked away. I asked again for the 4th time, this time pretty irritated and he walked to the counter and grabbed it and it's clear it had been sitting there the whole time. He dropped it with no apology. It was cold.We flagged someone down and asked if he was the manager to which he said yes (tall guy, black button down) and we explained what happened and his response was “oh that dish is just served cold”, again no apology. (It's also not served cold lol). I responded saying it had been sitting up there the whole time and our waiter tried to bring us the bill before I had even gotten it! And his response “oh I'll talk to him”, and walked away. I ate it quickly and then asked “the manager” as he was walking by for the bill and he looked at me and pretended to not hear me! I don't think he was actually the manager because as a manager myself in a customer based industry, this kind of treatment would never fly.I understand Fridays are busy but we were pretty chill the whole time until the end when it was clear our waiter wasn't going to bring out my food no matter how many times we asked, but this experience was pretty ridiculous.

Diner Japonica
593 Woodside Rd, Redwood City, CA 94061, United States
The best place to eat authentic Japanese food. I would go to this restaurant even if it was in the middle of Tokyo. The chef is meticulously perfectionist about his food. The hamburg (Japanese hamburger) with ponzu sauce and kushiyaki are my go to dishes. Its always prepared perfectly, even after countless times ordering those dishes. If you get the dinner combination with sashimi, I think their sashimi is often better quality than what you would get at a nice sushi restaurant. Diner Japonica is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area.

Little Madfish
1021 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Little MadFish has taken the prize for worst restaurant experience Ive had in a long time. Yesterday was my birthday and my husband and I decided to try them out since wed wanted to for awhile. My husband calls them on the phone to place an order for pickup. He gives the woman our order and she repeated it back correctly. We head to the restaurant, my husband gets the food which is sealed in a bag.Once we get home I open the bag and find that half of the order is incorrect. We had ordered two lunch bento boxes. My husbands order was correct and included chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, and an avocado roll. My box which was supposed to include 2 salmon avocado rolls was completely wrong. I ended up with salmon teriyaki somehow.I call the restaurant to let them know the order was incorrect. The man I speak to on the phone seems confused by the situation. He finds my order and proceeds to tell me that my order had 2 salmon teriyaki. I told him that it was incorrect and that the woman we placed the order with confirmed my box for 2 salmon avocado rolls. He eventually concedes this point after the woman confirms that the order was put in wrong.I told him that my husband is going to bring the food back. The guy tells me I can make your box. I requested that the order be remade entirely. My husband had hot food so it would be cold by the time he made it there and returned. They absolutely refused to do so. I had to explain the food would be completely cold and that this was their mistake. He still refused to do so.My husband, hearing me argue told me to just request a refund from them and that he would go to return the food. I request the refund. The man on the phone says he can only refund me for the incorrect box and not the entire order. I am flabbergasted. At this point he not only has refused to remake my order but now is refusing to refund me entirely. He told me that he would have to escalate the situation to his manager who was not in and I would have a response in 2-3 business days. I argue my case yet again. I told him this is the first time we have ordered from them and this has been an awful experience. We were clearly at a stalemate since he decided not to fulfill either request. My husband arrives at the restaurant to give back the food. The man begins arguing with him too. My husband demands the refund and after about 10 minutes of back and forth conversation finally gets the man to give the refund. I dont understand why they couldnt have fixed this up front. This is a new level of horrible service from restaurant. DO NOT GO HERE. The staff is rude and unhelpful. They dont care about customer experience. This is the first and last time I will order from them.

SushiPlus

This restaurant has gotten better over time. Initially, my family found that there service was weak and twice I ordered out and came home to find a dish was missing. However, now the service is much better and the food is very good. My only complaint is that they put cream sauce/heavy sauces and fried extras on so many dishes which is not typical of Japanese cuisine (at least not when I was in Japan and in the Japanese restaurants I worked at in the U.S.) . The sauces make the food far too rich with fish which is already rich and flavorful on its own especially if it is fresh.
