Bonsai Japanese Cuisine

Dont pass on this Japanese restaurant in Roseville! Located in a small shopping center, the restaurant wowed us with its delicious food and generous portions! At first glance, the prices looked a bit high but when we got our food we we werent even able to finish it all. The rolls are huge, the salads very generous in size, and the bento box was overflowing. Everything was fresh and tasted so good and the service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be coming back in the future!

If I could give 6 stars I would, hands down one of the best Japanese restaurants in Roseville. The decor is modern, clean and so much detail has been thought through for a top tier dining experience. The service is impeccable, the servers are attentive and friendly.I am so happy that we finally have a restaurant where they serve more traditional Japanese dishes like ankimo and otoro. The sushi rice is perfectly warm and the grains of the rice are seasoned perfectly. We ordered the Roseville roll and the Autumn of Canada roll, very delicious and great blend of flavors. We also had the salmon belly, hamachi belly and scallop nigiri which were high quality. And we also ordered the hamachi kama which was seasoned just right and grilled to perfection. We will definitely come back!

Had some extra time so decided for the first time ever to eat at a restaurant with the express intent of writing a review. By no means am i am expert.Firstly, service was very fast. I was seated immediately and given water immediately as well. The server was very kind and the atmosphere was casual and relaxed; the kind of place you could come anytime.I ordered the Hamachi Kama ($17), Chirashi ($21) with tea. The Hamachi was cooked beautifully; lightly crispy on the skin and not dried out at all. It was really tender, i honestly may come back just for some Kama with rice. The Chirashi was interesting. The rice i think couldve been better, the texture felt a little off. additionally the octopus and shrimp didnt taste as fresh as the rest of the food, which was a little disappointing because otherwise the Chirashi wouldve been very good.I decided afterwards to ask the server which nigiri he liked the most, and landed on the blue fin toro. $11 for two pieces is a lot, but its Toro! I was not disappointed. The rice was the same as the Chirashi, but i wont take points off twice for that. The Toro melts in your mouth and it was the perfect way to end the meal.I havent tried the ramen or the rolls, but as far as these dishes go this place isnt half bad. Its not my favorite and it wont replace my go-to, but im gonna go back at some point!Kama: 8/10Chirashi: 7/10Bluefin otoro: 9/10Overall experience: 8/10
Mikuni at Fountains

Mikuni is the best sushi restaurant in the Sacramento area. The food here is of high quality, super fresh and sooooo tasty! We moved to Texas and absolutely miss this place. Every time we visit our family, we ALWAYS make sure to come to this Roseville Fountains location (our absolute favorite). The bartenders make great drinks here too! Be sure to try out the albacore pepperfin, Japanese mafia roll, incredible roll, train wreck roll, and the miso soup. If you decide to get the Gyoza potstickers, ask for the crispy option. Enjoy! You’re going to love it ☺️

Tldr: I chose to leave when I was still hungry rather than give them more of my money for overpriced food that was all about the looks and severely lacked any real substance. When we first walked in, I thought we had walked into a sports bar by mistake. The first things I noticed when I walked in were the bright colors trying (and failing) to brighten up the dark room, the loud music, the 4 TVs all set to different sports games, and that the place was not busy at all. Oh, and the $500 dollar Insta bait dish thats wrapped in 24k gold (no, we didnt get that). We ordered the bluefin toro tartare as an appetizer, 2 orders of the 3 musketeers (3 chefs choice handrolls), and 3 other rolls. The appetizer tasted fine, but there was so little that it didnt feel like it was worth the price. The seaweed used in the hand rolls was so stale that it had become so chewy and rubbery that we looked like cartoons trying to tear of bites to eat it. The rolls were all small and not very filling, and they either tasted bland or off in a way that I cant really describe. The fish was all of mid quality at best and the rice was completely unseasoned, and whatever little bit of sauce they did use only threw off the flavors entirely. Nothing was good. Also, I know this is a tangent, but Ponzu sauce is only supposed to have a hint of citrus. Its not supposed to be just yuzu with a hint of soy sauce. That was just disgusting and embarrassing. On top of everything it took about 20 minutes for us to get all of our food even though the place was half empty and there were plenty of people behind the sushi bar. At the end of the meal, I was still hungry enough to eat another roll, but chose to just get the check instead because I didnt want to waste my money on something that was just going to be overpriced and not that good. The only good things Ill say in their defense are that the food was aesthetically pleasing, and that our server was great and very attentive.I will also say that Im thankful for the 20% mailer coupon we had. Id have been so upset if I had to pay full price for that.

One of my familys favorite Japanese cuisine! The food is always fresh and delicious. Staff is always very friendly and professional, I would give the overall environment an easy 5 stars, however I give 4 stars only because of the wait. The restaurant has always been popular and every time I go with my family there is at least a 15 minute wait for a table. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Great low key Japanese restaurant. All the favorites, well made and the fish is not over cooked. Awesome roll reflects its name.

I feel compelled to share a very strange and uncomfortable experience I had with this restaurant. I work in hospitality and just experienced one of the worst customer service moments I've ever witnessed. Dave, the host who greeted me when I walked in, was extremely abrupt, rude and snappy to me for just asking if there was a table available for 7 people. I understand it was a walk in and last minute, but being told “No. we aren't taking you” without any context or even a simple polite greeting is not customer service. “We aren't taking you”?! How do you say that to a patron wanting to dine at your restaurant? Not even a warm welcome or a smile. I then asked when next available seating was and told “nope, not servicing you. We are closed” when the restaurant was clearly open. After I looked around he said “we stopped seating at 7:30” (it was 7:40) with a very stern and negative delivery. I don't get it, all I did was walk in and ask if there was anything available for my family and kids and received one of the coldest responses I've ever experienced. Dave is not an example of customer service, nor should he be representing this restaurant and its brand. I hope someone is able to give him this feedback so he can learn from this as we all have “those moments” or bad days, but this is just something I can't stomach for not being addressed. Especially with a restaurant that has such great reviews and ratings. I hope management can give him this constructive feedback so he doesn't degrade or make people feel so unappreciated just for wanting to be patrons at an establishment that has the online ratings it does. Unacceptable, unprofessional and discourteous. Best of luck to his ability to simply be a better human. And hopefully just chalk it up to a “bad day” because we all have those moments. With much love and respect from a fellow hospitality worker - Taylor.
